"The Lords of Gondor have returned." I would've like to have seen that too. I think he means Boromir and Aragorn riding into Gondor, The King and The Steward of Gondor, riding in together, on the same page, having each others back.

Being an adult and living to see movies made after the LoTR (including the Hobbit Trilogy) i can only now appreciate just what kind of lighting was captured in the bottle when it comes to the near perfection these films represent. They had perfect cinematography, an awesome blend of practical effects and CGI, perfect casting, awesome world building, costuming that imo has never been surpassed, a film generation identifying score, a screenplay that overwhelmingly successfully condenses the main story of a written saga, ect. I'm so happy to have been a kid when these films were made, and as an adult I'm heartbroken knowing that all the lessons to be taught by these films hasn't been learned well enough to recreate their essence in other movies.

A scene that never fails to bring tears to my eyes. It's what one dies for that gives their sacrifice meaning, and Boromir died to protect his friends. On a different note, the duel between Aragorn and Lurtz is one of my favorite duels ever. It's not awfully true to historical combat (like most fiction isn't), but it's quick, fierce and decisive. It doesn't drone on and doesn't have silly twists. I wish movie fights followed this example.

In the book, there is another bit before the final line of Boromir. Where Aragorn and him speak of Gondor, and the ranger assures the fighter that. "We will go back together, into the White City, we'll go back with you indeed." But Boromir is fading, with the last remnants of his strength he adds to Aragorn, the son of Arathorn's statement. *"I would have followed you"* and the fealty he swore by calling him king. Implies that Boromir would have taken him back to their people as his rightful ruler, he would be behind Aragorn proclaiming the return of the king of men. Only, if only he were to have lived to do this thing. Before Aragorn could even thank him or reply, the fighter passes on from his injuries. Always make sure you keep a healer in your party folks

This scene reminds me of the Battle of Verdun. All able body men called to fight. Including french children, where the uniforms didn't even fit. Arrival of the french foreign legion (elves). Although more closely based on battles like cheddar gorge or seige of constantinople, the similarities to verdun are there.

I love that even though Boromir dies, his death is not a tragedy. Despite being a flawed man, giving in to his own darkness, and failing his objective, he still bounced back momentarily and gave his life to protect Pippen and Merry. In the end, the Steward's son accomplished the very thing he sought after all along, by dying to protect Gondor and the kingdoms of the Free Peoples. In addition, even though he was corrupted by the Ring, no one in the Fellowship held that against him, but they forgave him and honored him in death.
