Merry and Pippin joining in the movie is so funny, they're just lifting vegetables from farmer Maggot and go "yeah, we've got time for a mission to save the world!" I bet their families accused Maggot of murdering them and burying them in a shallow grave. Only for these two asshats to show up a year later; taller than any hobbits in history, wearing full suits of armor and talking about orcs, fire demons, walking trees and a war to end all wars.
