in some attempts, you fold your ears at the exit of the addition. I have never seen or heard of such a technique before. Is this a special technique for Class D and C wings?
@florinelzx6r25 күн бұрын
For higher aspect ratio gliders there is an increased possibility to exit from a full stall with cravattes. In full stall, as you are flying backwards, the wing tips are folded and flapping towards the leading edge of the wing. To rebuild the span of the glider you have to gradually release the brakes until most of the glider is open and then let the glider fly. That will allow the glider to go back to flying clean, without any cravattes. As you can see, I did not manage that all the time. What glider do you fly? Where?
@kot-murbl425 күн бұрын
@@florinelzx6r Yes, that's what I thought. I fly in Russia, in the mountains of the Caucasus. The wing of the B class is Paraavis Joy2. The Siv course was held in Abkhazia in Gagra. To get access to flights at our resorts in Krasnaya Polyana.

Why not 2 state stall?
@florinelzx6rАй бұрын
I thought this is what I have done :)...
@paraglidingtransylvania4682Ай бұрын
@ i ‘m not an expert so I don’t want to argue just for the sake of arguing, I asked because I didn’t see the hands up step after stalling the glider. From my experience on siv first you stall, then you go full hands up and then to backfly position.
@florinelzx6rАй бұрын
Hehe... then we are 2 non-experts discussing the subject :). If you see stall #1 and #2, they are done the "classical way"... bury the hands and pray. Both me and my instructor (he is actually acro guy and flying acro gliders) discovered that it might not be the best way for high aspect ratio gliders and we started experimenting with 2-stage stall. It's kind of hard to see on this gopro angle how far the hands go up when releasing after the first stage, I think you have to go more with the feel and visual of the glider: the idea is to allow the glider to regain her shape with the tips stalled and then stop her again in order to stop the center. This should prevent the gliders with higher aspect getting the wing tips tangled behind and ending up with a big ball of cloth overhead... So, 81 of the 83 stalls were done with this technique: break the glider, stall the tips, release to allow her regain the shape and then hands down experimenting different backfly positions... with variable results... Where did you do your SIV? Which instructor?
@paraglidingtransylvania4682Ай бұрын
@ I did in Annecy with Alex Ciuhandu. Going in the summer for more :).

Thank you for sharing, especially because it is not perfect! Considering my first how (not) to full stall Oludeniz experience, you did great! Of course there is room for improvement, but that's what we try to learn. From understanding 2-stage stalls to actually doing them are a long way. I would have been very happy with these stalls on my second flight, especially with this high aspect ratio wing.
@florinelzx6rАй бұрын
Thanks man for finding something nice to say! Agree, they were far from perfect but they still felt like a huge achievement! Only after 40-50th stall I felt that I have enough time to think about entry types, heading, practice hand positions, time better my exits... Anyway... time to clear my HDD of these clips so I will upload a compilation these 83 full stalls... for a winter evening and for me to watch it next time when I go to Oludeniz :)

Why does it do that?
@florinelzx6rАй бұрын
@@craigc8682 why the glider behaves like that? When you slow the glider too much, it stops flying and it just falls out of the sky. At this point it just behaves like a big, unstable parachute. You have then to find a good moment to let her fly again and become controllable…

Your entry is not really nice. Do you actually do 2-stage? You let the wingtips go too far back so that they even touch. That's dangerous and can make the whole things more unstable. I'm curious why your SIV instructor didn't mention this.
@florinelzx6rАй бұрын
Esthetics were not part of the evaluation criteria at this point but no worries... don't you even think I got any cookies from the instructor either... It was work in progress and, gradually, in the following flights, some of the stalls got much better... and some of them were way more terrible. Hopefully all of the attempts are contributing for a safer future, that's the whole point.

that's correct, good observation. They broke after the first full stall: one line close to the right tip on the upper cascade and another one closer to the middle right of the glider but on the second cascade so affecting a big part of the trailing edge.
