How do I insert mathtype equations/ symbols from word into illustrator? is there a way we could label symbol notations (such as alpha, beta gamma lambda etc) in Illustrator? Presently I use Visio and Mathtype, but I face difficulty exporting them to EMF or EPS or SVG files. Please help.
@KevinBonham3 жыл бұрын
I don't know for sure, but I highly doubt it. If you don't need to edit the equations in illustrator, you might just export them as high-res tifs or something. Sorry I can't be of more help!

@Kevin Bonham Hi. great video. I had a problem with images saved as tif from FIJI. They appear with a big X in red when I try to insert on Adobe illustrator. Any suggestion? Thanks.
@KevinBonham4 жыл бұрын
That typically means that the format / encoding isn't recognized. I would do the following: 1. Check that it opens in other programs (Preview, image viewer, etc) 2. Open it in photo shop (or one of those other apps) and save as png or jpeg, then see if it works in illustrator. 3. If that works, save a copy as tiff (make sure format is correct, give it a different name)

I'm having trouble importing images from IMAGEJ/FIJI. After pasting them in Illustrator they are blurry and pixellated. Any tips on how to troubleshoot that? Thanks!
@KevinBonham4 жыл бұрын
What's the file format / resolution?
@aakashm12854 жыл бұрын
@@KevinBonham original file is .tif
@KevinBonham4 жыл бұрын
@@aakashm1285 Tif is not a vector format, which means that the individual elements will not be editable from illustrator, the pixelation may be due to the resolution. Can you see what that is? Usual recommendation for rasterized (not vector) images in papers is 300 dpi. But note that if you import this into illustrator and then stretch it, that will reduce the dpi

Hi Kevin, I have one question, is it possible to change stroke width for bioanalyser graphs in Illustrator and in general to ungroup them?
@KevinBonham4 жыл бұрын
I don't know - what's the format of bioanalyser graphs? If you can get them exported as svg or eps or maybe even pdf, then probably yes. If you want to send me an example output in one of those formats, I'd be happy to try.

One question Kevin. Why adobe illustrator and why not powerpoint? My supervisor has been insisting me to use Ai for my manuscript figures. Really appreciate your suggestions.
@KevinBonham4 жыл бұрын
1) powerpoint doesn't do vector graphics (this is the main reason) 2) powerpoint's tools for working with layers, doing alignments, etc are nowhere near as sophisticated 3) it's way harder to draw and make complex illustrations like model figures in powerpoint 4) You can be way more productive with illustrator (everything is just faster/easier), once you get over the learning curve. Plenty of people use PP for their whole careers. But illustrator (or other vector-editing software like Inkscape or gravit designer) are better choices

Dear Kevin, Thank you for a great tutorial! I would like you to recommend me a way to export a high resolution file. I would like to arrange my figures in Adobe Illustrator and insert them in a word document. I tried a lot of ways of saving/exporting, but when I insert a saved file in a word document, the picture becomes blurry (and even more blurry when I save that word document in a PDF format).
@KevinBonham4 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure - I've noticed similar things with Word in the past. I think your best bet might be to export as a really high-resolution (300dpi or more) tiff or jpeg. Those exports will no longer be vector images, but if you're only doing that in the final step, it shouldn't matter. An alternative is to have figures on separate pages, then you'd export your word doc as a PDF, you illustrator images as a PDF, and then combine them with acrobat
