So und nicht anders sollte eine Oper inszeniert werden. Was heutzutag in Bayreuth abgeht ist einfach nur überzogener und durchgeknallter Quatsch

What a full-bodied performance! Even the five ladies first scene is superb. Polaski is very much in control with unrestrained dramatic where called for, and the correct voice colors in others.

4:24 fits nicely under the fingers so many pianists go like the clappers. Interesting to see such a famously dazzling pianist instead take it at a more leisurely pace.

No one plays the last three Schubert piano sonatas better than Mr. Serkin, although Sir Schiff comes close, though in a slightly different style. Of course, Mr. Serkin and Sir Schiff played an d studied together in Marlboro years ago. They are both giants! lang Lieb Mr. Serkin and Sir Andras! They keep Schuberts works alive for future generations.

I wish I could understand German. Auto translation helps but translating word-by-word is very annoying. I wonder if AI can do a better job, like line-by-line translation. Anyway, I am greatly enjoying this Meistersinger. I should remember the "Bayreuther Festspiele, 1984" and look for others, too. Thanks.

This was late in Polaski's career, but she was experiencing a vocal Indian Summer. Her top notes are right on the mark, her voice steady and assured. An exciting performance by all!

As always , Maxim Vengerov nails it.The most complete violin player . Player , teacher, conductor, father, living human. We "corridor" violinists would love to get close to his way of playing/ beeing. Salute Maxim.😊

I remember seeing this around the time it came out, on a PBS broadcast. Back then you didn't see the Berlin Phil much on video so it was fascinating. I recognized Sabine Meyer, who by the the time it came out had already been denied tenure in the dispute that was one of the straws in the wrecked relationship between Karajan and BPO. This video is less gimmicky than some others - no isolation shots from the studio, etc..

I heard Falk Struckmann sing Amfortas at Covent Garden in 2007, conducted by Bernard Haitink. That was a more than memorable performance by the entire cast.
