I believe Maxim gave this performance in 1996. Either way, such earthbound sentimentality is far beneath the sublime, transcendent heights that he reached in 2006 with NDK Sofia (also on YT).

I agree that Vengerov reached transcendental heights in 2004-2006, and his performance in 2006 is hardly possible to surpass. Still, this earlier version is incredibly charming as well.
