Hi. Thanks for the video. I am having trouble with the game actually going into the menu part. It loads up and shows the loading icon but never goes further than that.

I despite using most Reshade preset, mostly because they kept cranking up the contrast, bloom, and sharpness level to an almost cartoony look.

The RDRAM buffer is used in a small number of games. In Mario Kart 64, it's used for the big screen over the tunnel in the first course to display animations on it. In the early years of N64 emulation it was an unemulated N64 feature, and it would just be a blank, black screen, and then when it was finally emulated, it was very CPU intensive, not suitable for people running lower end CPUs, which is obviously not a problem in 2024.

Like there are some amazing pre-patched mods for these games, specially the Redux mods by KryzeePlays, that remasters and tweaks the game in both visual and gameplay manner. Can you dissect those Redux mods and tell us what exactly they used, so that we can mod our copies in the same way, but with more liberty and choices?

Wanna add, there also is a "qtfix mod" that transforms the game visually, flawlessly in three steps

Great video ive been recently getting into improvement mods for various pc games. Even though i own the games i will still get a "drm free" copy to keep it all installed and portable so i never have to figure out the mods for that game again lol. I can store the folder of the game and know whenever i choose to play it again its already suped up haha. Im also making documents describing to my future self why i added mods and what they do. I share your persoective on modding to improve it but not changing the base game at all. Thanks for your work man

Thank you! This tutorial is also largely applicable to simple64, which I ended up using as my preferred N64 emulator. GlideN64 had too many moving parts. 😅 N64 came with Rambus DRAM (RDRAM), which is a type of SDRAM. simple64 defined the option as "Enable superscaling of readbacks when upsampling". Sounds like additional processing when reading image data from memory.
