I was told the way I write my stories reminded the friend of this guy, I’ve got no idea, even listening I’m not sure, but that’s cool I suppose?

this poem isn’t funny at all. thank you for making me horrible about the fact that i stumble over my words, and use fillers in my sentences to give me time to sort myself out. i am uncertain about what i day because every time i go to say something i know that if i’m wrong there’s no way the man in the room will let me get away with it without discrediting my entire education and intellect. so fuck this dude for making fun so many people for no reason other than his own amusement. for the other side of this story go watch “like totally whatever” by melissa lozada-olivia who says it better than i ever could

Maybe the reasons teenagers use these devices is because we're told by society that we aren't allowed to know what we are talking about until we have a college degree and a few years under our belt. Maybe all this pressure is too much. Maybe I want to voice my opinion but am not willing to. Not because I am stupid, but because I know there is always someone, someone like Mr. Mali, getting ready to cut us down. We will speak up when you learn to give us room to be heard.

+ctyoung16 The point is to continue to speak with conviction and believe you are right and fight for yourself instead of back down at the face of any opposition. Who cares if they know more than you and are pretentious about it? Fuck what they think if they look down upon you for your opinion. Speak it anyway. Anyone will respect you more if you speak with a purpose than if you are afraid of what someone else might say or think.

This is, like, brilliant. My head literally exploded, ya know? Seriously though, the coda I would add to Mr Mali's message is that the strength of your statement of opinion should be reinforced by the tempering process of being held up to serious and rigorous intellectual scrutiny. A fallacy asserted with conviction is still a crap statement.

personally, I think this video is distracting. You lose the nuance and expression. Watch the actual video of Taylor speaking that this was lifted from.

I mean... this is about spoken words. The sound and talk. Not the written word. It's about Speaking with conviction. Not writing, or reading. WATCH it. Don't read.
@kcking2311 жыл бұрын
Many can learn from this. People these days never like to speak up about certain predicaments that occur in today's times, they rather be complacent with what ever happens or that they receive.

It's not intellectual cowardice to say "I don't know," since there is nothing to ascribe to the cowardice. I would argue that it's actually more intellectually cowardly to say "I know" when you have no justification for believing those words, since you are scared to accept ignorance. What is the retarded "that"? I take offense to your unjustified and unnecessary denigrations.
@madwilliamflint11 жыл бұрын
That's retarded. Way to embrace intellectual cowardice.

That is not what the message of the poem is, it's ok to be wrong. It's just that no one says anything wit certainty, that they100% BELIEVE what they are saying ,, even if they are wrong, its speaking what YOU believe NOW.
@profloubere11 жыл бұрын
Great use of typography, but I disagree with the message. Most often, those with the greatest conviction about a topic are those least educated about it.
@brokenyew11 жыл бұрын
I'm not certain about that. I already said this, so please read. Indeed, he is not saying to question, he is saying to not question. "You know?" and "right?" are questions. You can tell by the question marks. I'll rephrase so you might understand: He says we should not ask those questions at the end of our statements. I say it's actually smarter, albiet less practical, if we do. We can't meaningfully "declare things to be true" unless we know things. And we don't even know what "knowing" is.

@angharad25611 жыл бұрын
This isn't about never questioning your own beliefs or re-examining them. This is speaking as if you're so open-minded, not one belief, fact, or conviction can stay in there. That rising question noise at the end of a declarative sentence is the equivalent of saying, "though everything I just said is negotiable depending on your reaction."
@cjpearson0311 жыл бұрын
Are you certain about that? Anyway, he is not saying to question...he is saying that our society has become inarticulate that many people feel the need to end sentences with things like "you know?" or "right?", even when they are statements, not needing those questions at the end.
@brokenyew12 жыл бұрын
Sure, speaking with conviction has its benefits, but I don't see it a wrong choice to question ourselves. We can never be certain about anything.
