awesome video i got a 32 lb pike from the bridge not long ago on orange lures,try em out and tell me what u catch!

Massive respect for your perseverance...Have you tried hair rigging the hook off the tail ? Hooking them through the flesh obscures the hook and limits its freedom to get purchase. Clip the baits tail, and attach through a piercing in the root of the tail using a pellet band for example, pulled tight and thinned before passing through.There are various other options for attaching to the hair to experiment with, dependant on bait and distance. Give it a whirl ! Use smaller baits to increase your hook ups.Bigger baits will only catch bigger fish, generally, as the fish needs to have the bait fully in its mouth to work as intended, unlike trebles... Hope the suggestion helps you on your journey to find a safer way of fishing for pike.Stay away from trebles and old fishermen now...

I admire your perseverance! I would go nuts after so many blanks. I have been using circle hooks for about 3 years now and I will never go back to trebles. Unhooking is a breeze.

Nice video mate! I love seeing people advocate for proper fish safety and care when fishing for them. I only just started deadbaiting for pike and never had a deep hooked fish untill now. But I think i'm going to switch over to circle hooks since they definetly seem safer for the pike. Tight lines!

Well in buddy on the esox you have had and I know it's been hard going .I myself are not keen on the books you used as I found it hard to land the pike they all seemed to get of the single hooks maybe that's just me but I will be sticking to my trebles.. Good luck next time...

Targeting the scissor is such a bad idea circle hooks were never designed for catch and release they cause more damage than trebles especially to the scissor

You are soo right and no one in their right mind who respects their prey should be using trebles hooks, they should have been outlawed with the gaff. They are nothing more than barbaric and totally unnecessary and spell the demise of more Pike than anything else.

Hi CJ- I have recently changed my rigs and no longer use trebles. I think nowadays (albeit) fully acceptable to use trebles seem barbaric to me and I no longer fear deep hooking. I too fish your local venue- recently came across your vids. Biggest out of our local for me is 15lb quest this year to find a higher double. I caught a 9lb last week. Hope to see you out there 👍
@NiallMurphyphotographyАй бұрын
I've had 31 pike in the last 3 sessions averaging 6/8lb, few doubles, nothing deep hooked, all trebles. Hit the fish early and deep hooking will rarely happen. Silly content.

Nice stuff. If you do a lot of piking consider getting a rubberised mesh net. Hooks can still get caught but usually they bounce off or are easier to remove. A lot of people get the Savage Gear ones. They are fine. I have the BFT XL Monster net and they are sturdier. But any brand will do. Abu and Fox etc. do them too.

Ah, this is my local haunt! I fished under the bridge further up from the Weir on the Thet as a teenager some 20 years ago and had some great fish- some big Eels and remember a large pike following one of my Roaches in… I’ve been fishing it again recently and I’m lucky if I get a bite. Was there a couple of weeks ago when an otter swam by underwater and that was that. It’s great rediscovering again and I’ll definitely give Bridgham a go again!
