Would this be too young for a 6th grader?

Thanks for the review. Just want to throw out there that time lining is not busywork. the sense of time develops around age of 8 and children are learning primarily through concrete ways-they need manipulative and experiences to take in information through the senses. History is a particularly abstract subject, it is probably the least concrete subject because it is in the past it cannot be experiences. images help, but the timeline makes time concrete for children in the concrete stage of development. The one they recommend may not be required, but most curricula and educational methods do recommend time lining, it is especially interesting to see how events overlap...like di you know Noah's sons were still living when Abraham left Ur? timelines are super helpful for children--as adults we can imagine things because we have a lot of experiences and media and teaching that have laid the foundations, children don't have that. SO wouldn't ever skip a timeline with younger kids-basically k-8.

How long does it take to complete the science and geography per day? Do you use another curriculum for history as well?

We are planning on using Mystery of History next school year. I don't think we will do the timeline either. We did a timeline 2 years ago in our history and the kids got nothing from it.

Better study origami in Japan, it's where it comes from. Too many books. I will never get the "read aloud" concept, you already read, the kids are who need to learn how to do it.

What did you end up switching to? I have a K & 2nd and wanting to introduce a history that will keep them intrigued, but also doesn’t take a ton of time because they are young. I really want one that is a Christian world view and starts with creation (not US history like so many popular ones seem to do).

How do you get the pages in without majorly crinkling them? I have had an awful time and tried over and over and pages are sticking to the plastic and making it awful to go in and I don't want crazy crinkled pages or to fight with it each time I want to fill it. I even cut a tiny bit off the length of the page and it didn't help.

We bought this for my daughter. She really enjoyed it at first, but unfortunately it became repetitive and my daughter got bored with it. We only made it halfway through. I decided to put it away and take a break. I'm not sure we will go back to it.

Might want to check out homeschooling Christian teen group. Check make sure they re” not cliquish. My boyfriend unfortunately had to cut ties with a family member. Basically they refused to admit they were wrong how they treated me few years ago… we re” talking about running homeschooling group for autistic teens & typically teens .. we been man labeled crazy of wanting to homeschool our feature kids once married. We re” Christians.

I have a rising 6th and 8th grader as well, we are using the same two funschooling journals but we will be diving into them for summer school! Thank you for the recommendation of the Journible I’d never heard of that but it looks like a wonderful way to keep up their handwriting practice. Prayers that you all will have a wonderful summer and coming school year. 😊

My son is currently using BJU English 6 and Reading 6. He enjoys it. It’s definitely challenging and reading isn’t his fave. He’s also doing ASL 1 with Mr. D Math. He really likes it. You submit assignments and the teacher responds with feedback. He’s halfway through the course and will most likely move on to ASL 2 in the fall.

If you ever find that you need it, you can buy the activities answer key for reading 5 without buying the Teachers Editions. From 4 and up I find the answer key for the activities very useful unless you are reading every story with your child. I have 4 I teach though and have found them a sanity saver. You are right, BJU’s reading is VERY meaty and we have loved it. We also love their English and my oldest is doing all their ELA/reading subjects this year. We switched my kids over 3 years ago and have loved it.

Enjoy your videos! I will have to look into history of a horse...that looks like it could double as history and reading! We are going to do the typing course as well this year. My soon to be 7th grader wanted to do Spanish but after speaking with BJU and HSLDA decided to wait till 8th grade so it will count for 8th and 9th grade. Just learning about certain subjects taken in 8th grade that are allowed to be counted on transcript for 9th grade. Have a great week!
