It took 10 of the 1 by 4 inch pine boards which is about $46 on 10/1/2024. A sheet of 3/16" thick Luan plywood which is $33.......so $79 worth of lumber. Probably another $10 for chair braces and the lock. Stain and poly about $30.........so grand total of about $120.

Since my woodworking web site no longer exists as of 2024, I made a PDF file which explains how I made this model. The file includes 1/4" grid patterns to trace and make all the curved parts. Also includes photos of the front and back of the finished project. You can view and/or download this file using the link below. archive.org/details/project-to-build-busy-carpenter-pull-toy-in-october-of-2017

Sorry about you not being able to get to my old woodworking web site. My host for that free web site went out of business, so I no longer have a web site. I will try to create a PDF file that has all the same info as the web site did about building this model, then give a link in the comments to get the PDF file.

Hi Dale, I came to the same conclusions as you. The Ancestry subscription is a rip off, I will export my .ged file, print the family tree then cancel my subscription
@dalemaleyАй бұрын
Since I research and write history stories and books, I need to keep my Ancestry.com subscription. For those users that only do their family tree, I would agree with your strategy. I wish I could have all the hours back I have spent creating family tree images for the 25+ history books I have written using Powerpoint. It would be so much easier if I could export the image directly from Ancestry. Thanks for watching the video !

I have over 300 family trees in Ancestry because I research and write local history stories and books. For family tree images for these books, I usually end up creating them in Powerpoint, which is very time consuming. Thanks for watching the video!

You think another brand window would have given a better experience? My neck of the woods Anderson always advertising how great their windows are, maybe you are paying for the advertising? Home Depot has there own brand look similar but "cheaper."

My guess is they all eventually fail.....like in 20 years. From an engineering perspective, trying to keep about 5 different materials sealed up perfectly for 20 years of weather exposure is virtually impossible. Thanks for watching the video.

Additionally Dale, I am designer that uses Solidworks and I was thinking about making my own setup blocks for 1/2, 3/4, and 1" material. Can you advise on where to get the profile that you used in your video and if you know whether the profile would need to be adjusted in each case? Many thanks in advance!
@dalemaley3 ай бұрын
The company I bought the bit from sells plastic/nylon blocks of different thicknesses, so different set-up blocks for different thicknesses of wood are probably required. I measured my bit as closely as I could measure it, then drew it in Sketchup to do the illustrations I have in my video. Hope that helps ! Thanks

The way I make most of my KZbin videos is to first make a Powerpoint with each scene on a page of the ppt file. I then convert the PPT file to a WMV movie format file with 30 seconds per each slide. I upload the WMV file of the powerpoint file into a movie creation software (AVS Video 9). Then for each slide on the ppt file, I use a microphone to make an audio file, which I add to the movie program. So yes, I have the original PPT file, but there is no audio on it. Hope that explains it.

Can u put Saran Wrap on top of led lights
@dalemaley8 ай бұрын
The little rectangles on the LED strip, that convert electricity to light, do not put out hardly any heat, compared to a very hot incandescent bulb. These LED chips would probably not melt the Saran Wrap. I build my stuff to hopefully last for generations to come, and since Saran wrap is so thin and flimsy, I would never use it on one of my projects. Hope that answers your questions. Thanks for watching the video :)

I've completed the same whirligig per the designers plan from his book. However, I'm not too happy with the connecting rod performance. I remembered your video and went and looked again. I see what appears to be a metal strap with two holes, one for eye bolt and another hole for the crankshaft. I'm assuming these holes are slightly larger than 1/8" to allow movement? The eye bolt locates the top of the metal strap to the figure and the hole being slightly oversize allows some rotation and the bottom hole attaches to the crankshaft via the threaded nut? Is that a good summary, or am I missing something? Length, width and thickness and MOC would be appreciated. This is my first attempt building a whirligig with a crankshaft and I want something that works well! Thank you very much!
@dalemaley8 ай бұрын
The guy that did the book way underdesigned the beefiness of his whirligigs!! I had to "beef up" all of the designs to get them to hold up to any kind of wind at all. Let me dust off my whirligig, and I will get back to you.
