I haven't found any kind of small rubber band that doesn't break within a day or two unfortunately. Ended up switching to embroidery thread but even that will slide out sometimes.

Ive been a fan of dreads my whole life and i found out it doesnt have to be as big as the commitment id believed was the process and now i feel like i opened a knowledge portal and super ability by finding this awesome video. Before seeing yours and like 1 other i learned A) Dreads may be synthetic since synthetic hair is course and maliable. B) EVERY color you could every want comes in the bargain hair aisle in most beauty supply stores and packs are sometimes as little as .50 cents C) styling your dreads before hand and sewing them in is just as pretty and easy to maintain as having real dreads and it doesnt damage your hair nearly as much if at all and finally!! D) THE ACCESSORIES!!! Theyre all in little packs at the beauty supply store, most only costing 1$. About 3 years ago i saw a woman in the grocery store with the most beautiful dreads. She was gorgeous and her appearance provided serious inspiration and I decided right then that i needed to ask her if she had any pointers for possibly starting the process. The first thing she said was that it was a big commitment and then she told me the first "install" would run me between 250-400 since according to her it was "labor intensive. " she also went on to explain that id lose over half my real hair length and the only way to take them out if I stopped appreciating the look was to cut them off at the scalp......😮😮😢.... I have never been well off financially and I went to hair school in 2003 in north Florida aka roller set capital of the world. Because id only learned traditional braiding and updos outside of cutting and color i totally believed this girl and my fantasy of having beautiful ombre dreads was crushed since I wouldn't have that kind of money any time soon. Imagine my utter shock and excitement when I arrived at Beauty Depot and inquired about the best hair to use for dread locks. The girl working took me to the braiding hair section and pointed out a few different brands and colors and then said, "You shouldn't ever have to pay more than 5$ for any pack of synthetic braiding hair." I could have hugged her 😂 Then she told me that she learned how to create faux dreads on youtube with a crochet hook and she even began doing hair on the side. I was absolutely elated at the idea of possibly being able to afford my dream hair after all. All of this was a few months ago and I couldn't be happier with the dreads i learned to make while watching your content ❤ I apologize for the long comment but ever since i started this process I have never been so happy with my ability to do hair. It can be incredibly suffocating when your talents/ hobbies are stifled on account of never having the money to procure the necessary items. Again i apologize for the lengthy rant but I sincerely wanted to make sure that anyone who decides to read this knows about the costs associated with this style and doesnt get discouraged by agenda seeking individuals over charging and gatekeeping.

Do you recommend washing synthetic hair? Does it damage the dread or hair wrapped around the top section?

The way i cracked my thumb's nail trying to pop this open... I ended up using a scissors to pry this open..

I do exactly what youre doing accept i dont use a normal braid, i use a blanket stitch braid, which is the strongest braid that i use and mt dreads still seem to slip despite the fact that i double wrap my hair sround the dread before i stary praiding down...what am i doing wrong? (Oh and i do install them myself)

Will this method help with synthetic dreads that "shed" or come out, maybe read seal them? I've noticed my synthetic dreads will eventually have loose hairs and I have to unstick them so they don't matt up together.

Why the U shape sections of hair? The extra hair at the bottom pulls and you have to slide quite a bit down for a good fit. Wouldn’t a rectangular section allow for a closer fit with that free motion? Is there a reason for the U shape sections?

I’m late to the party, but I’m just curious, why the u shape sections? Those have more hair at the bottom making it harder to clamp with free motion. It just seems like a straight across section would be the same shape as the Linkie allowing a closer seal with that free motion. Is the U shape necessary?
