Thanks! You inspired me to take the leap and ordered Ian's #90C TransportPi Digi II Streamer. Putting it together was simple enough and so much fun. I'm using Volumio to stream to Tidal connect & using I2C HDMI to connect to a Loxjie D40 Pro. It sounds fantastic.

Hello can this DAC be built with USB input?

Nice video and presentation. Best power supply? Had yet to pas thud test. The wide dynamic range music loading of a power amplifier should not cause any ripple at the supply output terminal. Alternatively test at full rated current and abruptly switch off the load to see a spike voltage at the output terminal. Conversely apply a full load from off to on abruptly to see an undershoot at the same output. Next is white noise test with a spectrum analyzer capable of FFT to see the noise at each frequency.

Hi Gabby. As you may remember I am primarily an analogue guy but recently decided to upgarde by streaming experience. I kept my Bluesound Node 2i to serve as the streamer and put a Denafrips Ares II downstream as the DAC. The sonic improvement has been exceptional. Then I started reading about expensive audio grade network switches so another $500+ to make things sound better. So I'm glad I went back through you videos and discovered this one. This set up appears to do the same as an expensive network switch and prevent noise and other spurious elements reaching the streamer/DAC. For the cost saving I will try and build the Ebay sourced power supply. Where did you buy the metal enclosure? Thanks again.
@russellparker45684 күн бұрын
If you have a non suspended deck, you could try what I did. Imagine a linn sondek style plinth but with an open top. If you build something like this, you can put an inner tube inside the box and then fit a panel on top, make it 10mm smaller in each direction so it doesn’t touch the box. I use a granite board, it’s basically an air spring box but if its made from oak it looks really smart.

Wow, i dont use dimmer but it is good to know. That cable looks good for the money. What about their connectors? Most of them made from plastic or policarbonate. Much expensive ones metal. Also please mention ground problems, my naim amp makes some floor noise speaker end, needs a source device which has Floating ground switch, eliminates that. I dont understand what it is exactly. I bought ifi ground defender, but it doesnt solve.

Very cool 😎 I bought a Cambridge audio dacmagic 2 like I had back in the day (that was great at the time) but it sounded not as good fed from optical out of a cheap 24bit streaming dac as the same dac audio out, perhaps it has some electrical issues (it’s old kit now) or the optical out was the issue? Must try it with a cd and a proper digital 75ohm cable input 👍

I remember seeing a IR Camera at trade show about 15 years ago for $3000 and thinking what a great deal that was. Fast forward and even after inflation this 1/10th the price! IR cameras are used commonly in industry for checking the temperatures in electrical panels, loose connections show up as hot spots. When building or buying a house an IR camera will find misfitting or missing insulation.

Is the Scarlett calibration check done yet? Maybe do a frequeny sweep say 10Hz to 20kHz. Looking forward to seeing the numbers. Checked with a shorted input on my Rigol DSA 815 spectrum anysler. Noise floor is around -105 dBm 2.24E-06VRMS. Soon as I add 50 ohm terminated 2 foot double shielded RG174 cable noise floor climbs to -90bBm 7.07E-06VRMS. Hooked the RG174 cable to any bench power supply or super capacitor noise floor climbs to -75dBm 3.976E-05VRMS. Still hard to see the $200 Scarlett is hundreds of times better. Note with a 16 bit DtoA with a 6Vpp signal a 1bit change is a 90uVpp step.

+5% to -10% I suggest a single ended first as a Balanced design can vary a lot based on your Chips and System.

no, you won't have a difference in sound like changing a part of an analog system. they only make a square wave in the correct frequency with very little inaccuracy

High Silver, content is not high and silver. It’s only 3%.. and it is still available with lead made by reputable manufacturers with Rosen core extremely easy to apply. Especially when the parts have been pre-cleaned with a glass fiber, rosin pen that cleans and abrasions at the same time this makes the solder here and take to the parts as easily as water absorbs into a dry sponge.. If somebody is having a problem applying high, silver content solder, that’s the person‘s personal problem with lack of experience and knowledge, not the solders problem.

Hey Gabby. Pretty new subscriber but really interesting content so far. Superb recordings I know would include: Woman In Chains Tears For Fears. The mix by Bob Clearmountain is incredible. Vocals and instruments are easily placed in the soundstage. Any Mercury Living Presence recording but if you get a chance you should listen to the 1812 Overture recording from the mid 50’s (mono). One mic above and behind the conductor with overdubbed cannons from West Point military academy! It’s amazing. Lana Del Rey. All of Lana’s albums have superb sonics but Chemtrails Over The Country Club is my go to.

It came with Tung-Sol KT150s installed and a spare set of Tung-Sol KT120s which I have never tried. I have a new set of Gold Lion KT88s to try and see how they compare to the Tung-Sols. Tube amplification is so much fun!

How would I connect an optical or coax in to this DAC?
@numlock965312 күн бұрын
Precapture doesnt really work all that well in practice unfortunately. Im going to assume you have not tested it much before making this video as other youtubers have demonstrated more recently that the autofocus doesnt appear to stick to your target during those crucial precaptured frames, so you just end up with a bunch of blurry images. Canon needs to address this because its the main reason a lot of people are upgrading to the mkii only to find out it's not as useful as it should be. This goes for the EVF eye tracking feature also, many photographers have turned that feature off as its just not consistent. You mentioned a half stop difference in dynamic range and that is true, a half stop less dynamic range when using high iso speeds, very disappointing, especially for those who need precapture, like bird photograpers, they tend to need as high of an iso as they can get away with, unfortunately with the R5 mkii they lost 1/3 to a 1/2 stop of exposure which is rather frustrating. The canon R5mkii is a good camera but when compared to the original R5 it feels like somewhat of a side grade vs. an upgrade and for the price difference currently that is a poor proposition. Hopefully canon can address many of its issues through firmware. Time will tell. Until then, buyer beware.
