My parents took me to see this film in cinemas but I don't recall much about my experince seeing it but I have seen the film a bunch of times over the years and the original is still the best in the series with Lost World placing second, the Jworld first film is more or less a rethread of the original with only a few changes, its first sequel was forgettable garbage, not bothered with the last one of the series

Love this David. The melodies and harmony are expertly written. And the climatic reprise at the end is perfect. It's also really interesting (and insightful) to see your take on spots within the film, how tempo/dynamics etc can give a completely different portrayal.

I'm really liking the emotional connection you make to the picture with your music. Your sense of suspense is especially on point with the rocket ship plummeting back to earth and the two characters scrambling to fix it in their own ways, followed by your sense of triumph when it flies (albeit in its own awkward way). I wanna say that John Powell was one of your influences here (I can hear it in your thematic material and instrumentation). Overall, you've definitely earned the accolade you received here. Congratulations!

Thank you! I’m glad you like it. Very perceptive on the John Powell influences, I think it’s hard not to reference him when scoring orchestral cues for animated films but yes, I was certainly channeling some JP for the action sequence and the flight sequence. 😉

@@DavidTregoningWell, I'm glad that it paid off for you. I was a contestant in this as well. Didn't make it as far as you did, though. I certainly learned a few things from listening to your instrumentation. btw, I hope I'm not overstepping any boundaries by saying this, but I actually recognize some of Powell's thematic material in your work. As in, you may have subconsciously inserted it into your work nearly note-for-note.

@@EnlightenedByKnowledge no no, you’re not overstepping at all. Which melodies in particular do you mean? I was only intentionally referencing JP orchestrationally so any similar melodies would be purely coincidental.
@EnlightenedByKnowledge

@@DavidTregoning It was the moment when the rocket ship almost hits the ground, but pulls up and flies above the clouds. The triumphant melody on the strings sounds incredibly similar to the main theme from Powell's score for "Chicken Run." I love listening to film scores, so I couldn't help but notice this. But this doesn't diminish your score at all -- you still orchestrated it yourself.

I Keep coming back to your Entry, its just soo good, it has a hummable recognizable main Theme with Beautiful Progression throughout, the Mickey Mousing is just right, it hits the Tone Emotionally and the Executiojn from a technical standpoint is as good as they come.... The Mix is basically perfect and you manage to display a unique distinctive style throughout. Hats off to you, and as i said before i´d be quite surprised if you dont win this ;) excellent Work

I sketched some melodies first - then started writing straight to picture. I pretty much orchestrate as I go. The whole process was over about 10 days, but mostly just evenings as I have another day job.
