In the 1970's as an apprentice mechanic in a super rural location, I used to work on a whole lot of Moggy Thou's! What you really want is to work on a Moggy Thou van used by a farmer … so that the brake cylinder pit is swimming in cow slurry 😂 In our area in the 1970's there was literally no policing. None. If you saw a police car you'd faint, it was a tourist in his company car 😁 Having moved back into area when I retired, it isn't much different know. My favourite Moggy van back then was owned by a guy known as Dai No6 (after the cigarettes) The chassis was mostly 4x2 wood and underseal, though there was a little concrete. The van floor was bits of wood, newspaper and underseal. He used to take tyres from our used tyre pile which were totally bald, but his had the cords showing. The pièce de résistance however was his fuelling system … The fuel tank was obviously a rusty lump. So he had fitted a petrol pipe from the carb through the fire wall … Attached to a Mini electric petrol pump screwed to the dash board passenger side. Then in the footwell he has a 1 gallon Castrol oil can with no lid, full of petrol, in which he had the petrol pipe dropping from the _electric pump_ above it 🤣 Total insanity. However this was not an unusual vehicle … There were many a car & van in much the same state. One guy even gained an MOT on his Russian Moscovitch car. There were NO parts available for them, even though it was only about 5 yrs old. So he made up brake cylinder rubbers by winding the big elastic bands the postman used to have around the mail onto the cylinder pistons … They worked for about a week! Really, you kids haven't lived 🙂

@@williamthomas5223 it’s the working theory, but we still await an official finalised report from Bedford fire service which was due in summer 2024…still not here! - I find it interesting that Browne Johnson (solicitors) put out a notice of advisories for insurance ramifications regarding EVs in carparks in the aftermath of the fire also. Mainstream news isn’t going to demonise EVs either…our countries ‘legally binding’ green promises will keep the newspapers well and truly in line when it comes to public relations. I’ll absolutely concede that the fire may not have stated because of an EV - but the high burn rates and the fire service guidance to allow EV vehicles to remain under a ‘controlled burn’ as they are very hard to extinguish is something that I believe could cause such catastrophic damage to a buildings structure, more so than your average ‘electric fault in a diesel vehicle’…but maybe I’m a cynic 😃

Nice fix. The broken arm is usually a symptom of a sticky diverter valve, as you already know. I have the later version heater control panel, 1999>. I replaced the heater control arm, which alone cost almost twice what you paid for the whole unit. Looks like you found a real bargain. I sprayed some silicone lube onto the diverter valve under the bonnet and it is a lot better now.

Be aware that if you replace the master cylinder you will need to either seal the tiny vent in the cap of the new cylinder, or swap over the cap from the old cylinder. If you don’t do this you will loose fluid as you have a remote reservoir.

Yes, they are the original bolts. Original spec have half height bolt heads so that they clear the torsion bar. Always put them in from torsion bar side. Bending the torsion bar slightly to aid removal and refitting is the approved method. Nice one.

Couldn’t agree more. I was born in 1994 and been driving since 2012. Didn’t take me long to realise that insurance companies are essentially crooks. Driving the Allegro is satisfying due to the free tax and cheaper insurance. Feels like it’s a good way of getting back at the money grabbing companies and authorities.

Definitely worth repairing the spring hanger area bud and it should not cost too much. ESM do the front spring hanger attached to an actual plate for that area and that might be the best option. Spring Hanger-Front (On Plate). These are handed so make sure you get the right side for your car. Any welder/mechanic should be able to do that job for the cost of a couple hours labour. Maybe look up the ESM part to show whoever is doing the work and discuss with them first to be sure it will work and you have enough good metal around it to hold the new plate. Hard to tell from your video but I suspect from what I can see that there should be enough.

On original assembly, the bolts holding the master cylinder in place are fed in from the outside into the chassis leg after which, the torsion bar is fitted thereby preventing the withdrawal of the master cylinder bolts. You can use a steel bar to bend the torsion bar enough to allow the removal of the bolts. On reassembly, put the bolts in from the other side of the chassis leg. There is enough room before the torsion bar to locate the nuts. Good luck!

The pub where you had a pint, now called the Fingerpost,I believe, used to be called the Royal Oak and if you'd sat there 35 years ago in Summer on one particular day,you may well have seen me stumble out of the woods on the left and fall into the canal having drunk some of my mates homemade potato wine.I haven't lived there since 1989 but I grew up there and the North Common was where I spent most of my days.especially truant days.I could be wrong but I think the black stuff is coal as it was all mining around about.Alot of men and boys died in the Pelsall Hall Colliery disaster and there were alot of local ghost stories when I was a kid. Also, near the furthest field you reached Fishley Lane used to live a gypsy in a traditional wooden caravan which you don't see anymore.Looks like you made the most of lockdown, anyway!!
