I had to laugh, i have 4 kids and my older one are 8 and 9 now but a few years ago they found a calculator in my room and they thought it was an old phone! It made me laugh but also made me feel very old! lol

We have done yo-yos, one little tube of candy, wooden train whistles (with their names wood-burned on them) flashlights (our power goes out a lot), calculators, headlamps, and things like nice pencils or markers because by the end of the year our art supplies usually need refilling!

lol I feel like you've been in my house. You're talking about those rulers and I'm going, "Ooh; I haven't seen that particular combination before. My 7yo daughter would love it." And then you talk about your 7yo walking around measuring things. And then you started talking about phones vs. going older-school, and I'm thinking, "my son wanted a basic calculator, like we used before we had our phones and computers" -- and the next thing you pulled out was calculators. 🤣 So another long-time mom here saying, YES, these suggestions are spot-on.
