We are moving somewhere temporarily - putting everything in storage (UHaul or Pod) - renovating- selling the house - buying a house and then moving again!!! My hope is that we will be displaced for 2-3 months. I still pretend that I am back East so our Spring/Summer clothes & shoes are in their large, stackable 26" X 16" X 8" plastic bins. What are your thoughts about temporarily packing/storing/moving using plastic bins? Some are too big to fit into Lowes or Home Depot cardboard boxes. Your thoughts would be appreciated!

I think it's totally fine to store clothing in plastic bins. I would just make sure that you're not stacking anything heavy on top of the bins. We had a move similar to the one you are describing where we had to sell a house and move twice, and our solution was to rent a storage unit and put some storage racks inside the unit to hold all of our plastic bins. Or you can just stack the bins on top of one another, but again I would be careful not to put anything heavy on top of the plastic bins. To save space, you can use vacuum seal bags inside the plastic bins so that each bin holds more clothing. Here's a link to some vacuum bags that I like: amzn.to/4gdikAG Or you can also make your own vacuum seal bags by putting your clothing inside a clear or white plastic bag and sucking all of the air out with a vacuum (put the vacuum nozzle touching the clothes, not the bag). Then tie the bag closed and tape the opening of the bag so that air does not get back in. Best of luck on your move - I will be thinking of you!

Hi Sheila -thank you SO much - I am so grateful I watched your moving videos -the colored duct tape saved me, too. I just wanted you to know how much your videos helped me. It was a forced move from a 3 bed house I was renting to a tiny 2-room plus small kitchen because the landlord was selling. I am now in the stressful still-decluttering stage of unpacking, still way too much stuff for this tiny space (and I was determined not to store anything) . I will watch your unpacking video next. Keep going - you’re a great teacher. ❤️

There was a time when we still had six kids at home, and the landlord of the house we were renting decided to sell it. So we had to move out with short notice, and there was nowhere to go with that many people. It was definitely stressful! I know the stage you're in feels like it will last forever, but I promise it will pass. Please be gentle with yourself as you are decluttering. When I had moved it was very hard to declutter everything. Unfortunatley I had to because my husband had brain cancer and we downsized to an apartment! It was very hard but I survived!

I heard what you said about the wardrobe boxes but I do wonder if you have ay ideas as to what other ways to pack hanging clothes so they are readily accessile. I hang up 90/95 %of my clothes and from the time I sell my home and get into another one theres a gap and I would like to be able to eaaaasily access my clothing and I cant imagine how when they are all stacked in boxes. Ill have to look for a video on your packing system but this may be another video Idea you asked about. :) As always; thank you!

Ooh yes that is a great point! I'm such a minimalist that I use a capsule wardrobe where I can mix and match everything. So I pack it in a suitcase when I'm moving, and if I'm staying in a temporary place in between houses, I can hang things from my suitcase on hangers at the hotel or the Airbnb. I do have plans to make a video with more details about packing clothing, so I will be sure to cover your question. Thank you!

I just watched your entire moving series and love it. I decluttered about 80% of my stuff, but now may move into a smaller place so will need to take things a bit further. I appreciate all the tips you gave on keeping the move as smooth as possible. I'm hoping to be "minimalish" by the time I move so I'm hoping for a move that will be fairly simple. such great advice - and I'm not moving. .. I did a form of this when my late husband passed. It was too painful to throw things away, but I could donate and gift a lot of his items and lesson the pain. ox

I have to add that our new abode is only 30 miles away so we have the luxury of a slow move. It’s been so nice bringing in essentials then seeing what else we’d like to have that will work in the space. I am realizing I’ll probably throw lots away especially makeup, toiletries and random junk drawer stuff, food, etc. We are already living in the new house and it is eye-opening what we don’t miss and can live without.

I'm so glad you're here! Yes, tomorrow is a new day, and you've got this! Lowe's usually has some basic colors, but if you need more colors of duct tape and you need them right away, your best bet is a craft store such as Hobby Lobby. They usually have tons of colors and patterns. Or if you've got time, you can also order from Amazon.
