How much weight does the solar system add to you're RV ?
@ccrvsolar
@ccrvsolar Күн бұрын
Oh it definitely adds some weight, some carry toys, I carry RV solar systems, lol....total weight of system is around 1600 pounds....80% of that is to the pin weight which makes our pin weight 4500 lbs depending on how much equipment for installs I am carrying at the time.... We have a payload of 4750lbs, last time I weighed us I had 150 pounds to spare but my equipment stock can really vary which can vary our weight 500+ pounds, I know we are a little over sometimes..... Thanks for you comment....

Derek is by far the best in the business. His knowledge, workmanship, dedication, response time, education, and customer service is top notch. He installed my system in November of 2023 and had component issues, not install issues. He spoke to me the entire time each and every contact to him was responded to. I finally was able to get out to him and make a mini vacation out of it. He fixed my system and more. He warrantied everything even though it was not his fault and I did not purchase the equipment from him. The company I purchased it from did not respond to my emails. I was at a loss, so I reached out to Derek, and he was on top of it. During my stay, I had a great time and was able to spend time with his family. Great time and great family. If there is any question of the installer you want on ur unit.......this is the person you want to choose. You will not regret your decision. It is worth every penny after watching him work, attention to detail, his knowledge, and most of all, his customer service. This was no doubt money well spent. Thank you to Derek and his family!

For brief periods I have noticed over 100% output from my 4,400w (8, 550w panels on my 35ft MH) solar array too. This is due to the Cloud Edge Effect that briefly increases solar irradiance due to the edges of clouds acting like a lens to focus more light on your panels. Unfortunately, it doesn't last for long. After I bolted the feet of my array to the roof, I sealed them with Henry's 884 silicone calk and coated the entire roof with Henry's 887 lifetime guaranteed 100% silicone seal both for both waterproofing and reflectivity. It's a once and done product you might consider using.
@ccrvsolar
@ccrvsolar Ай бұрын
Oh nice....yea cloud edge effect is something some don't calculate for on their strings and end up with a over volatge scenario if they don't leave enough head room. Over voltage voids the warranty on victron mppts.... I actually have been looking at Henry's Tropicool as an option. Glad to hear you been happy with a Henry product. Plus a nice bright white roof should reflect even more light back up to the panel..... Thanks so much for all your comments.....

Was your BRAND NEW battleborn battery considered NEW at 13.3.. and 13.1V after the first charge?.. chart says that's 40%...💩
@ccrvsolar
@ccrvsolar Ай бұрын
I guess I have never had a battle born battery have a resting voltage of 13.3 or 13.1 after being charged properly on a charger that can be programmed to Battle Borns specs....I see under performing chargers crap out all time short of a 100% charge especially anything that claims it's a auto detect battery type charger.... With all this said I rarely install Battle Born batteries anymore with all the other options out there. Prior to this last year Battle Born is what most RVers requested..... Thanks for you comment and your opinion I always welcome it....

@ccrvsolar yup.. I was sold the victron IP65 charger.. Eric gave me a custom charge profile... I was told to buy the GC3 from Amazon on black Friday for $500 off.. So the GC3 from Amazon came to me at 13.3V. It's never been over.... I believe I was given a used/returned battery.. the chart says 13.1= 40% That's rather 💩'y!. And the BIM 225 Turns on at random (KEY OFF) and I think it's trying to balance to the starter battery and keeps pulling the GC3 down.. but regardless the charger takes 18 hours to hit 14.4.. and within a hour the voltage falls to 13.1 nothing connected..

How do you choose which solar panels to use?
@ccrvsolar
@ccrvsolar Ай бұрын
There is a few different factors.... I try to stock 200s, 250s, and at least 1 size but ideally 2 or 3 different size panels in the 300-400 watt class all the time even the months we travel to our customers...then I just use whatever fits best for the budget and rv roof space..... The new 250 watt panels out there from a few different manufactures area good choice to fit any and all RVs tho.... Thanks for watching....

Yea everyone's idea of "Budget Friendly" is a little diffent I suppose. Hey thanks so much, combining the legs on a single phase 120v genny is simple on most. I can dive into it a little more in another video forsure.... With Victrons Quattros that have 2 AC inputs where the genny can be wired direct to inverters completely seperate from shore power it gives you a little more control over the generator. Thanks so much for watching and commenting. I love talking solar with anyone so reach out or comment anytime....

That IS a cool and cheap system. It will last long with these good components. And this is what makes it cheap in the long run. Are the modules glued to the roof? Cable protection there would be nice, maybe a floor cable canal glued to the roof as well.
@ccrvsolar
@ccrvsolar Ай бұрын
Panels are not glued to the roof they are just installed with normal z brackets screwed to the roof with buytl tape and dicor for sealant.... Cables could be run through a channel or covered with eternabod tape but honestly in my 150ish systems it's never been a problem but obviously not impossible to get snagged by something..... Hey Kevin, So no you do not need a huge dual 5000kVa inverters with 6600 watts of solar system to run A 15k A/C....even just a single 3000kVa Inverter setup would run that A/C. A dual 3000kVa is a little better since it leaves you more available 120v power beyond the A/C. It takes about 900Ah and 3000 watts of solar to freely run a single A/C during the day solely off battery and solar. That's about half the size system I have. If you don't mind running your genny here and there to catch up the State of Charge of your batteries then you can get away with less batteries and less solar. I would love to chat if you are interested....989-464-3314.....thanks for watching....

That sure is a sweet system! I know what you mean about the high current demand for generator starting. In addition to my 48v battery, I have a separate 560ah 12v battery that I use for generator starting. I got a 330a BMS with a 1,200a surge to start my big genny. What's funny is that now that I have my big system, I haven't had to run my genny at all, other than to excersize it, in over a year and a half of off-grid living. My 200a BMS wouldn't cut it, as the starter draws over 300 amps. You really did that system right, with the autoformer. It's like the ideal system I would build if I didn't have any budget considerations. I like how you put that one angled panel on a separate charge controller. It works with your 24v system. I use 2 angled panels up front, sloping at a gentile 9.5 degree angle, but they are all on one charge controller. I figure I might pick up 50-100 watts if I wired it like you did, but I don't think it would be cost effective. Besides, I already have sufficient power for my needs. Though your set-up is optimal for solar production. Do you have any idea what your entire system weighs? It looks heavy. My total 5,020w solar/23.5kwh battery system adds about 950 lbs. to my MH, so I removed about 400lbs from my coach to make room for all this extra weight, as it only has 3,700lbs of CCC. And for a FT boondocker like us, who travels with full tanks, that's barely enough.
@ccrvsolar
@ccrvsolar Ай бұрын
Sorry for the slow reply I have gone to your comment multiple times to reply but I know it was gonna be a longer response I wanted time for it.... The 48v systems I have done I kept a separate 12v battery for starting genny since the 48v to 12v converters aren't very big and it would take a pile of them in parallel to create enough amps. Like 5-10 of them. We definitely love our system, couldn't live without it honestly as pathetic as that sounds lol. All my customers with an autoformer love it and it's something I stock all the time now. My system definitely added some weight. Just the 12 550s at 58 pounds each is almost 700 pounds. All the racking materials are probably around 150 pounds. 2 Quttros are about 140 pounds. I got around 370 pounds in batteries. So even with the few things I removed it added around 1400 pounds. Honestly I haven't re weighed us since I finished the roof. I had about 800 pounds to spare when I weighed us before doing the roof. We don't tow with full water because of system weight but I have access to water most the time no matter where we are so I tote it almost daily and keep about a 1/3 traveling. We have 4500 pounds of Cargo Capacity. Thanks so much for watching and commenting. Maybe our paths will cross one day. Winter months group up all us fulltimers so I bet we are close together at some point.....safe travels......
