This was from nearly 50 years before I first landed in Malta and got to know some of its life-loving great people. It is not my country, though I have been there often and love it. It would be so much better if Britain had had better governments in the 1950's and 60's, who would have welcomed Malta's offer to become an integral overseas territory of the UK. And if Britain had never been stupid and cowardly enough to join the toxic EU. Malta as an equal part of Britain, uncorrupted by the rotten EU and its Mafia masters, would both have been better off by far. Carnival in Malta is still a great experience. But it seems to have been even better in 1928. In a free-er and clearer time, when we all knew who we we were and what we stood for. God bless Malta!

The people of Malta have benefited greatly by being in the EU.Would they have benefited as much by being under the UK.Doubt it very much as the Uk would have dragged Malta out of the EU aswell...look at the state of the UK now.

erezija, we lived at the top of Santa Lucia St when the war ended. We could see all the battle ship in Marxamxet horbour , there wasn't room for another ship, launch or any size boat. The hooting of their horns, the sirens, the fire crackers, the people on the bastions cheering and hugging each other, was something to behold. I was 7 years old the but the memories are instilled in me .

Interesting footage and thanks for sharing. It is a pity to note that though Alfred Vella Gera shot in 16mm and 35mm, only little of the quality of this film work comes through - the film transfer to video is rather poor. But one could always try again if the original films are still at hand.

the original films are kept in the PBS archives. I agree, the transfer can be much better. When it was done in the late 80s it was a hurried job, if I'm not mistaken.

This was a rehearsal of the set we played in our very last concert as Hunters Palace (duo, Alex and Peter) in the summer of 2004 (concert was at Misfits), and which we decided to record, to document our sound at that time, just as we were about to split up. It was recorded in Peter's front room in Sliema.

Prosit ta' intervista eċċellenti, l-intervistatur deher li kien ġenwinament interessat f'dak li kellu jgħid Alex. Alavolja qatt ma kelli x-xorti niltaqa' ma' Alex, għalija, huwa artist f'kull sens tal-kelma; jekk hux fil-kitba tiegħu jew fil-mużika tiegħu. Nittama li daqt tniedi ktieb ieħor Mr.Vella Gera :)

Siegħa demm jaqbad, u siegħa daħq. Ironika ħafna li l-onorevoli Edwin Vassallo joqgħod jispara l-kelma "ippermettili!!", "ippermettili!!", meta moħħu biex il-libertà tal-espressjoni titħaxken bejn il-ħitan ta' permessi stretti. Mistoqsija: f'xi 41 min., Mark Camilleri jsemmi 'l xi ħadd li ntefa' sitt xhur il-ħabs wara li, f'kunċert, wera ritratt tal-Papa Benedittu b'mara għarwiena warajh. Min kien dan il-proxxmu?

good question. it just didn't fit in with the general ambiance of Idle Times. This track was our usual opener at all the gigs we did at the time and it would last 10-15 minutes.
