What do you mean by a "custom pressing label"? And what could you press? Did you make your own, private recordings a studio, and then have them pressed on this label? Or what?
@JonathanHolmesjazz10 күн бұрын
@@jourwalis-8875 they will have paid for a handful of sides like this - maybe 25 or 50. These weren’t sold commercially but were sold to the artist for them to sell on

The company was formed in 1934, by ex-Columbia records, recording engineer, Cecil Nixon. They were based in Crewdson Road, SW9 in London. They recorded and pressed the record for you at the rate of, 12 @ 5 shillings each, 25 @ 4s each, 50 @ 2s 6d, each, 100 @ 1s 8d and a halfpenny each, and 1000 @ 1s 4d and a halfpenny each. You could sell them for whatever you wanted. They also began commercially made issues marketed through music publisher, Keith Prowse in 1935.

A fascinating issue - I'm just wondering if the composer/pianist Laurie Brewis commissioned it for potential backers, as it sounds like the score for a musical or revue, or some such. Nicely performed and played by drummer Doug Fisher & his Arcadians, who were a popular part of the Richmond and adjacent borough's dance band scene from 1928 - 1938.

A tune which is usually performed as a sentimental and slow fox trot, gets a great swing treatment here. Lovely trumpet behind Fred's vocal, and the second half has superb sax section and solo work, and what a rough house close - glorious.
