You should remove the pinch bolts from the adjuster , push a chisel into the gap , spread it open and spray the hell out of it with WD40 !! work the adjuster back and forth till it moves easily!!! Now when you need to adjust the chain you stand a chance!!! 😀😀😀😀🏍🏍🏍🍺🍺🍺

There are at least two steps not needed in this procedure. No need to remowe the wheel, no need to loosen the rear sprocket bolts. Quite more easy if you know what to do before doing it.
@edavies2 жыл бұрын
Hi Vento, I agree, I referenced that at 2:01 that you don't need to take the wheel off. The reason I took everything off (as I mentioned in the video) was to give everything a good clean and inspect the other parts.

How do you get the tank fairing off the gas tank w/o removing the gas cap?
@edavies2 жыл бұрын
Hi Jeff, Once you've removed all the fairing bolts the tank fairing should pop off by pressing down the gas cap and pulling up the top of the tank fairing. The gas cap is secured by the rubber gasket it's very snug so be gentle!

Would you recommend replacing this evil plastic part early to avoid this, or even replace it with a metal one? For someone lacking the mechanical skill (or time) to do what you show here, this would be a junked bike.
@edavies2 жыл бұрын
Hi Per, I'd recommend looking out for the signs of Timing chain adjustment. Keeping the services regular and checking the slack. I was pretty unlucky as I was due to replace the timing chain but unfortunately it didn't want to wait! The plastic was a by-product of the timing chain slipping, having at a metal one probably would have made the bottom end worse.

Looking forward to seeing the next video for this! I have a 2009 F800GS which I did a full strip and repaint of frames/swingarm last year. I wondered about splitting the engine and going for a preemptive timing chain and guides change but it seemed to be ok when I checked the valves. That and the engine split is mega scary for me! It’s so helpful to see how you’ve gone about it as I’m sure it’s inevitable at some point. Also to hear of the problems and pitfalls you’ve faced and the solutions to overcome them. Thank you for the great vids. Ride on!

surely these are for the enduro? standard 1200 was always fitted with the plastic cases!
@edavies3 жыл бұрын
Hi Mark, you're right these cases were designed for the Enduro model, however the rear subframe is the same. Also touratech used to sell these panniers for the previous 1200 but were then made unavailable for the new 1200DVT due to Ducati performance insisting they only be sold via them. This wasn't ideal as when I bought the 1200DVT the enduro model wasn't out.
@markstrawbridge91333 жыл бұрын
hi ed,was that from ducati accessories or touratech and how much was it? cheers
@edavies3 жыл бұрын
Hi Mark, this was from Ducati accessories as touratech wouldn’t sell it to me directly unfortunately.

I know this is an old video Ed, but I am trying to sort something if you can help. I have the exact same bike, 2016 MTS 1200 DVT. My dealer is telling me this kit is only available for the 950 or 1200DVT Enduro only, not the 1200S. A few questions if you could please: Did you find the same issue and try the install anyway? Do you have the specific Ducati part number for the kit still? Also, do the factory Ducati side cases still fit when those under seat braces are installed on both sides? Thanks!
@edavies3 жыл бұрын
Hi Greg, I remember that frustration when dealing with Ducati. At the time of ordering the enduro had just come out and they told me it would only fit the enduro. However the rear sub frame is identical. Unfortunately I don’t have the kit anymore for the part number but I’ll check if I can dig out sold old emails. I’m confident the rear case will fit but you’ll need the two additional lock barrels which you might have to order separately like I did. As for fitment with the standard panniers I’m really not sure as I used the full touratech system which worked fine. Do the standard panniers have fittings under the seat? If not you should be ok.
@gregs45133 жыл бұрын
@@edavies Thanks Ed. Yes I have the factory panniers and they attach at those little pockets you can see in the silver under the grab rail. I believe they should still attach as I think those same rear support tubes are used in the factory color matched top case. Thanks for the quick reply.
@matjam66603 жыл бұрын
damn good video; also applies to the newer 1260's; they are identical. I also made the same mistake as you with the filler cap the first time I disassembled the fairings. I hate how complex these things are to pull apart. But they are an amazing machine.

How much is the material for this kind of rebuild ? Only the parts for minimum damage to maximum damage rebuild ? I would do it myself.. Want to buy a gs 800 with 60 k kms, looks and sounds like new and is cheap, but maybe one with 15k kms, the difference is 3500 bucks ... Regards Albert
@edavies3 жыл бұрын
It depends on the damage, so for me to get back running (not powder coating the frame or cosmetic bits) i needed valves which cost £100 for a complete head 2nd hand (9k Miles on it), timing chain new £80 pounds and associated guides and gaskets (complete gasket kit was £300). So about £600 but that doesnt include tools or time, which is the most expensive resource! :) Best of Luck! You'll have a blast off road with either!

Hi Ed I too bought 2011 F800GS in state for $2000 , Exact same problem as you jumped timing in intake valves and broke all the guides into pieces I took the head off no damage today pistons, question Is there way to replace the guides without tearing Engine apart? , The engine still in the bike, I was thinking take the clutch side out to see if I can see any plastics? , i’m assuming that you’re able to take out the bolt that hold chain guide from clutch side ? Hey is the engine hard to drop out? Can you drop it out the front with the rear subframe still assembled?
@edavies3 жыл бұрын
Hi, depending on wear yes it is relatively straightforward. I dismantled the whole bike due services the rest of the frame etc, however you can drop the engine with the bike in tact, a few engine mounting bolts and the wiring harness and you're good to go. I really struggled with the swing arm bolt that runs through the back of the engine which has corroded heavily on the aluminium bushes, had to get it hydraulic pressed out but that was due to the wear of the bike. Hope this helps, best of luck!

Will the scorpion exhaust hinder the usage of centre stand?
@edavies3 жыл бұрын
No, the centre stand is fully functional with this system. One recommendation would be to put something under the carbon end tip to stop the centre stand banging the end can when you roll off the centre stand. At rest the centre stand does not touch the end can.
