Replaced the OEM air filter on my 2015 DVT with a K&N last summer (2018). I have a copy of the service manual for the bike, so I knew what had to be done but took it slowly none-the-less. Time to complete the job... approx 2 hours. I have the Enduro package, so the cage had to be removed also... adding to to time count. It's nothing too difficult, just 'labour intensive'. Quite a few panels to remove. When the tank was going back on, the 'Diaper' kept moving around (out of place) so I left it out. I don't see the purpose of it anyways. One word of advice... have the tank near 'Empty" before starting the job... easily overlooked.

Ed, thank you so much for sharing this. Thanks to you I was able to replace the fuel gauge (common problem on Ducatis). I did not even broke the hose connector on the tank (again thanks to your warning). There is a place when one can disconnect it comfortably further down the line.

Ed - I agree, great video and very useful as I am about to embark on my MTS DVT Desmo service next month. Can’t thank you enough! I have a question on your pro tip for leaving the filler cap connected. When you reinstall the fairing do you think it would be difficult to refit the tank cover over the gasket to have everything lined up and seated or would you need to remove the filler cap then? The service manual is rather vague on the procedure. Thanks and we all owe you one. Cheers, Rob
@edavies4 жыл бұрын
Hi Rob, glad this is helpful to you. When refitting the fairing you can leave the filler cap in place on the tank making sure the rubber gasket is around the filler before lower the faring back on. It will be a nice tight fit when you press down you will see the fairing clip into place around the gasket. Happy to take another video showing this piece as I didn't really cover that in enough detail. I've just had my third desmo service and I can say that next time I'm going to give it a go. I'll be interested to hear your thoughts on the process. All the best Ed

Thanks for the video! Hard to find detailed info or video on this ridiculously difficult procedure to perform a basic maintenance function on a motorcycle. Love my Enduro but get real. Who designs these things? In the video you mention not removing bolts at tank fill cap. Does that negate the need to access the hoses under the cover near the cap? Really don't want to break those and also hear the fuel pump connection is easy to break???
@edavies5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment. That’s correct if you don’t remove the bolts at the filler cap you can remove the tank plastics (so long as all the other bolts are removed) without having to remove the filler cap. This means you don’t need to disconnect the hoses before moving the faring. Once the fairing is off you can then disconnect the hoses easily.i treat all connections on this bike like glass lol

How do you get the tank fairing off the gas tank w/o removing the gas cap?
@edavies2 жыл бұрын
Hi Jeff, Once you've removed all the fairing bolts the tank fairing should pop off by pressing down the gas cap and pulling up the top of the tank fairing. The gas cap is secured by the rubber gasket it's very snug so be gentle!

@Genevieve1114 жыл бұрын
No need to remove the fuel pump to replace the air filter.....
@carolprice95534 жыл бұрын
You don't remove it. You disconnect the electrical plug and VERY CAREFULLY release the barb-type locking device that holds the fuel line into the fuel pump. The fuel line is smooth plastic and this locking device has one-way "push in" tabs that need to be released.....I used a very fine electronics screwdriver to release each of the four lock-tabs.
@cbrooks27673 жыл бұрын
@@carolprice9553 thanks for that. I've not seen a four tab connector like that and wasn't sure about how to disconnect it.

THE TWO BREATHER PIPES TO THE PETROL CAP..THERE ARE PIPE SPLITS IN FRONT OF THE TANK .. EASY
@heathforeman72275 жыл бұрын
Just to let everyone know, you DO have to remove the bolts on the gas cap, just don’t lift up on it. You also have to remove 4 black bolts that connect the tank cover to the nose of the bike. There are also 2 silver bolts that connect the tank to the frame (they are up front towards the display) You also have to remove the electrical connection to the fuel pump, and the hose to the fuel pump. I’m looking for info on disconnecting the hose (don’t want to break anything 😬) This is probably the worst “how to” video I’ve ever had the misfortune to rely on. Nothing like getting knee deep in all this and find out you barely have half the info you need. 🙄
@therealguise51365 жыл бұрын
One correction: You don't have to remove the gas cap after all. You will have to lift up on the tank cover with more force than you are comfortable with, but it will some off. It feels a little odd, but the lines are attached to the gas cap itself, which will stay with the tank, so as long as you don't crack the tank cover in the process, there is nothing to damage.
@eriknash87833 жыл бұрын
@@therealguise5136 I'm confused. Are you saying the the gas tank cover will just stay with the gas tank, so you are basically not separating the tank from the cover? And yes, I would have like to see the fuel delivery hose disconnected in this video. I'm not complaining because there is no other videos out that show this process. I have a 2020 Multistrada 950 and hoping this will all be quite similar for when I need to replace the air filter. I can't believe it has come to the point where you can't even purchase a service manual anymore. My 600 mile service was $400 for a glorified oil change and light reset. I can do my oil changes, but service light reset has to be done by the dealer. After speaking with them about this, they have offered to reset the light for me if I bring proof of oil and filter purchase + $75.00 to cover their time. What a shitshow.
