Is there a reason you have to throw them down the water when releasing? I was curious. I would love to catch one someday.

Apprently its to give them a ‘jumpstart’ when releasing so they swim off right away

One of the main reason I bought a Hobie kayak was so I can chase the Albies. I have fished for them from the shore on Eastern Long Island for the past few years and I’ve hooked up twice, but was not able to land the fish either time. I thought that with a kayak. I can increase my chances by being able to get out further from the shore when they pass by. Hoping this year to catch my first one. Thanks for posting the video. Very exciting.

Keep at it man, now that this weather’s subsided you should have plenty of opportunity. Try using larger single hooks like VMC 2/0’s instead of trebles, I find they give much better hooksets. Thanks for watching

Either an almaco jack or a banded rudderfish. Still not really sure. Saw a few others caught recently that looked similar but had more yellow in the fins

How do you guys bleed/kill your porgies. I always have trouble ethically un-Aliving them.
@NickOnTheWater
@NickOnTheWater Жыл бұрын
Quick scissor cut to both sides of the gills. Generally takes a minute or two to get most of the blood out, then straight on ice. You could take it to another level with the Ike Jime method and brain spike them and kill them immediately, but that will take some practice. I've forgotten to bleed a porgy or two and the meat is still tasty!

@OutieFishing this is my first season really out in my kayak so I'm still learning the spots but I've been catching a lot of shorts. My range isn't great since I don't have a pedal drive so I take what I can get lol I'm having a blast so far tho. What is the furthest you'll go off shore with your pedal yak?

Nice fish bruv, we’re you trolling that tube or casting it, and how deep were fishing in the water column? I’m having a hard time figuring the right speed and weight to troll my tubes on the yak
@NickOnTheWater
@NickOnTheWater Жыл бұрын
Hey I thought I replied to this but youtube might've deleted the comment somehow... Anyway I usually troll it very slowly 0.5 to 1.5 knots max in about 15-30ft of water. I don't fish with any weight, just 50lb braid and 50lb monofilament leader (or 80lb leader if bluefish are around) It took a while for me to believe in the tube but after catching a few big stripers its become a confidence lure for me. Keep using it and eventually you'll see for yourself!
