I'm using ES-DE on steam deck and I've got everything working and launching into the games just fine but how do i exit out of a game back to ES-DE once I'm done?

would I be able to use this same method on a separate frontend like Beacon Launcher? Or is this exclusive to ES-DE? Beacon allows for custom launch commands, but I'm not too familiar with that

es-de can not read the game of a micro SD card??? So all my vita games need to be in the internal storage in order to launch it from Es-De???

vita3k emulator requires games to be installed directly to its folder so that emulator cannot read games from the sd card. please check the vita3k discord or website for more info. its not something we can change from es-de. vita3k would need to support that.

Hi! Thanks for the useful guides. Do you know if there's a way to make .cia files be recognized (for 3DS) and added to the library. Citra supports and launches the games without issues

Can you make a video on how to add new emulators? I tried to add Lime3ds instead of citra but just couldn't get it to work. Pretty sure I had all the code correct in notepad++ just something I'm missing. I really love the frontend but it's too complicated to do simple things. Thinking about switching to Launchbox.

its something we are considering but please keep in mind that adding an emulator is not always a simple thing - especially on android (have to consider things like “does the emulator support launching from a frontend”, “how does it handle intents”). this is why we currently don’t have a tutorial on this. our discord community is very helpful for specific emulator questions as well so that could be an option if you are interested.

Hey. I just finished doing this and it looks amazing! Now my problem is, my vita games won’t launch. Tried to go to “other settings>alternative emulators” but I can’t find for ps vita. Usually when I’m having a problem launching a system, this is my remedy. Any idea what did I miss? PS: games perfectly working on my vita3K app.

the reason you don’t see psvita in alternative emulators is because vita3k is the only emulator available. 2 things to try… make sure the folder name for psvita is all lowercase and make sure there are no line breaks in your .psvita files (everything should be on one single line in those files). also double check that the extension for the file is .psvita sometimes that can get changes without seeing it.

Can someone help ! when i launch a game that uses retroarch it goes in black screen and thats it ! When i dont use ES DE it works fine just from retroarch

Superb video! Ive only been using ES-DE for a week but I’m having a great time and learning a lot! Can I suggest a new sorting option of HW TYPE, MANFACTURER, REL YEAR. I’m going to do this via the custom way of sorting, but it’d be great to have this option built in. Best wishes.

Is it possibly to use stand alone emulator in es-de and retroarch for system that does not have stand alone emulator. I have an odin 2 pro and my es-de is set up with all stand alone emulator but for atari jaguar system i would like to use retroarch. Can this be done use to different way for different systems.

yes it can, on a per game or per system basis you can change with emulator is used

I think the default should be "No Metadata" for scraping. When you first start out, all games have no metadata anyway. The "All Games" option should only be used if you want to rescrape. I did that my first time because I had my preferred region wrong.

Hi, when I use Duckstation in standalone, the last game resumes at last state that I saved but when I launch the same game from ES-DE, the emulator doesn' t load the resume state... Is there a solution for this issue??

Hey! Is there a way to have 2 es-de rom directories in 2 different drives? I'm on android, my sd card is filled but my phone's internal storage is empty and unused. I was wondering if there's a way to have another content directory.

Playing the games through the shortcut works for me but for some reason the scraper isn't working to get the metadata. Any idea what's wrong?

best to check screenscraper.fr to see if they have metadata for the game you are trying to scrape. if the game exists there you can try to search for the it by name using the “refine” button if it doesn’t come up automatically

@@ES-DE_FrontendI would second that. I noticed that for aethersx2 and dolphin it will keep booting into the same game unless the emulator is closed. But only on the RG556 (does not happen on my RP4P). Probably Anbernic’s janky software.

If you "delete" the rom and meta data does the rom get permanently deleted or is it moved to a cleanup folder? I noticed on Windows the rom file wasn't moved to the recycle bin. Thanks

yes using the delete action in the game edit menu will permanently delete the game from your filesystem.

@@ES-DE_Frontend Thanks this is super helpful. On a side note could I request adding .LYX file extension to the Atari Lynx? RetroArch's Beetle Lynx does not accept .zip and as ES-DE doesn't have the extension listed in the systeminfo.txt my roms currently won't display.

was checking out the beetle lynx documentation just now and it lists the extensions of .lnx and .o as supported (and good news us both of those extensions are handled by es-de). i didn’t see an extension in their documentation for .lyx though. was looking here: docs.libretro.com/library/beetle_lynx/

@@ES-DE_Frontend Hi thanks for the reply. No-Intro Lynx is in .lyx format for retail games, (the no intro .lnx is an entirely different set). Handy's latest version on their official website is 0.90 but there's actually a 0.97 (that mainly fixed an audio issue) from 2016 which Retroarch also updated to. I'm not sure when .lyx support was added but I just double checked now and Handy on Retroarch plays .lyx with no issue. Alternatively, (which I ended up doing) was converting .lyx to .lnx but if we have .lyx added to ES-DE this step wouldn't be needed to view our games in ES-DE. I think this is an undocumented change from the original authors since it's from so long ago now, but who knows. Ultimately it's a relatively minor thing for an obscure handheld these days.

ES-DE can display triforce games on devices where a triforce emulator is available. You would need to make sure an emulator is set up to play the games separately from ES-DE.

@@ES-DE_Frontend Another follow-up on that previous note. The "es-dwee" theme isn't working in both the windows and android versions. When applied, it just gives the blank empty/default theme with no graphics

we may do some emulator specific videos in the future - thinking through the scope as a given emulator may have different set up needs depending on the platform. so not sure yet but we’ll consider it. and regarding accessibility features we will look into text-to-speech as a first option. research is being done here: gitlab.com/es-de/emulationstation-de/-/issues/1344

any idea why colecovision does not show up in my games? I can open it manually with retroarch using gamegear emulator but ES_DE for Android does not show that Colecovision even exists when I move through the systems. I have it working on my rgb30 (linux) and Rog Ally (windows) so I have the correct folders/roms and bios. It just does not show up on this android edition. Please help!

Do you plan on increasing the overall thread support on the Android app itself? My current setup is for Pegasus and I've been manually moving stuff around. To use Scraper would essentially mean going back to the start again. I've put over all my media and re-ran a scrape through the app but its dreadfully slow even though I pay for 6 threads.
