1 of these days when those puppies get rehomed, they grow up, they see their mama dog and probably growl back at her for that.

I walk a friends SS and was surprised for a 18kg dog how strong he pulled. On a collar i've got him walking much better, but when on a harness I actually have no issue with him pulling as he just loves to work out and use up energy any chance he gets, he's kind of doing his strongman truck-pull!

Hi! The online program isn’t an e-collar program (although many members do work with or have worked with e-collars). This dog had various foundations to instil - including developing responsiveness at distance so an e-collar formed part of that. The process to establish the lead walking follows the same process as per my program. It doesn’t really matter what the tool is so long as it’s used appropriately. 👍

My German shorthaired pointer used to do that crap, I got him as an eighteen-month-old dog. The force free person at the shelter wanted me to use a no-pull harness and distract him with treats🤣🤣🤣, I agreed with her just so I could adopt him. He doesn't do that crap anymore, it doesn't take but several clear corrections and a bit longer to reinforce the behavior.

Well said, in about as neutral a tone as humanly possible. Dogs don't like being corrected but that's kind of the point, and why corrections work. Done properly it's just clear communication, not punishment. I'll always opt for the best tool for the task at hand, and by best I mean the most efficient and effective. I want my dog to learn, not just train. I encourage the behavior I want, and discourage the behavior I don't. It makes things crystal clear for the dog, as well as being fair and honest. Dogs understand emotions better than words, it's OK to let them know how you feel, and only fair to be honest about how you feel. Nature doesn't just teach everything in it what to do, it also teaches what not to do... because both are equally important and balance is the supreme law of nature. E collars work better than any other tool in the box for certain situations. Using them in those situations is just smart and doing what's best for you and your dog. Any tool can be abused... even treats and praise. I wish I had a nickel for every owner I see praising bad behavior or trying to bribe their dog into listening to them with treats. Dogs not only respect, but want good leadership in the confusing world of living amongst us in society. Proper discipline won't damage your relationship with your dog, being a weak leader who's afraid to will. People don't respect anyone they can walk all over with impunity, so why should our dogs? The whole force free training movement is just more toxic positivity brainwashing designed to suppress critical thought and dissenting opinion. It's not in anyone's best interest :)

Exactly! I said this the other day - no ‘treat’ is ever going to beat a pheasant for my dog. Why do the trainers I encounter, keep insisting that I up the value of my treats? I’ve made my own liver cake, used sprats, cheese, hotdogs but I know these are not enough in the face of a live animal chase. Do you suggest the e-collar for training recall around pheasants, hares etc? I will look at the links to your training support, as this is the sensible, truthful advice I’ve been looking for!

Good video. We are dealing with dog daycare with training facility on site. 3 and half years he was going to daycare with no issues and decided to train him for just to listen to us little more but he is absolutely perfect. We paid money for training and now they require shock color in day care all the time which is not specified in daycare or training contract. Now, I'm absolutely against this e collars once I learned more about them.

We have used e and prog collar in the past to train our 2 year old male intact GSD. Represonded very well to this traing . We now have a 5 month old XL Bully. I am a very responsible owner my dog was 6 week old when the ban came in force is Scotland and any pups who could not be sold to someone willing to pay the exception fee and certificate. Other rules that he would have to be neutered by 1yro muzzles in walks. I love my dog and I have asked my vet to help me with his traing but they won't let us use any of the tools we used previously we are not to even correct the dog. I do send my ground but the make me feel like an awful dog owner when I explain to them I am going to have 2 neutered male dogs in my house I know if they ever were to fight I would be seriously injured my partner could be as well but he is stronger. I would really like any advice you can give especially how to bring up a XL Bully puppy who I will have until the end. I FEEL I NEED TO INSTIL STRUCURE AND DISAPLINE TO STOP FUTURE INNCIDENT so sorry for long comments

Personally the ecollar is much more then just zapping dogs not to bite sheep The wireless leash is the greatest invention of modern day in dog training It has much more effective use as negative reenforcement than positive punishment
@JamiePenrithDogTraining
@JamiePenrithDogTraining Ай бұрын
You cannot split the two! Punishment and reinforcement work hand in glove! The ‘wireless leash’ reduces one behaviour (the undesirable option) whilst increasing the other - (the desirable option). It serves to both punish and reinforce. Being ‘zapped’, and the subsequent avoidance of being ‘zapped’. Same same. We can call it ‘stim’ instead of ‘zapped’ if we like. But if we’re using one for one context, it’s important that we are prepared to accept it for the other. Or reject it in both. Whichever!
@CharlieTheCaneCorso

@@JamiePenrithDogTraining oh yes I understand that theres a line u cross from negative reenforcement to positive punishment, Me personally I like the reenforcement quadrants I try to use as little punishment as possible but that's just my perspective as some who personally don't do well with punishment I'll come up the lead at you lol

Sorry but this isn’t a fair representation of how positive reinforcement training works. Nobody expects a dog in a state of high arousal with no previous conditioning to behave any other way than responding to its natural drives. The point of positive reinforcement is to build conditioned responses starting with in a low arousal state and building up. Always setting a dog up for success not failure as in the example. I suspect Jamie knows this perfectly well and it’s very disappointing that he’s using such a disingenuous example. I’m not even a die hard adherent to positive only methods, I tend to think there’s a time and place for many different approaches. However I have lost a lot of respect for Jamie for what is basically a knowingly inaccurate representation/ straw man attack. And I do own a HPR and am well aware of the struggles of getting them to listen when in hunt mode
@JamiePenrithDogTraining
@JamiePenrithDogTraining Ай бұрын
There’s nothing disingenuous here. Unless the dogs are lying? What is the point in bullshitting people into believing that a proven dog in the process of chasing or hunting will break that chase for food - irrespective of the conditioning history - if the dog is unwilling to take that same food reward option for absolutely zero behavioural requirement whatsoever? Why on Earth does anyone need to condition a dog to eat free food, right under its nose? The fairytale is just that. A con. A hoax. A dangerous and disingenuous narrative, peddled by people who are neither willing nor able to demonstrate the bullshit that tumbles from their mouths and costs thousands upon thousands of animals, their lives. Do not feel disappointed. Feel discovered. Or enlightened - Educated. Feel uncomfortable. But reserve any disappointment for the realisation that the bubble is burst. Owning an HPR is something entirely different to taking someone else’s HPR that has a history of hunting unimpeded and having that dog respond to command instantly and reliably using food as a reinforcer. Thank you for your thoughts.

9 times out of 10 this leads to dog attacks and it was really dumb of this person to just stand there and let it happen instead of correcting the dog and letting it know that behavior is unacceptable, especially at a dog park.

I remember a good friend of mine who is a senior police dog handler say, why would you want a wolf/wolf hybrid type dog, you are going back 1000's of years to a wild animal and away from domestication, hence them being so difficult to handle as there natural instincts are so strong. It is a fair point and has me wondering also
