@everythingcubed42103 ай бұрын
It does not need to be connected to your landline phone no. However, if you don’t have fibre then it will use the same copper connection as your landline uses if you have it. If you have fibre you’ll need to plug it into your landline for it to work as the copper connection to your house would be removed - hopefully that makes sense lol.

Crazy to think this is 4 years old and it was the latest sky router...Yet I have only just been sent one of these in the past couple of months despite being a sky customer of 18 years....Not only that..I had to BUY myself the previous "lastest router" ER115 (within the past 6 months) off ebay because I had not been sent one of those either....I was still having to use the old SR101...As it is the SR203 (shown here) doesn't give be the same speed as the ER115 (cabled as I don't use a wifi conection.)..so I went back to the ER115....The speed is rubbish btw...well less than 10 mbps dl (just checked it's 6.2 ) and only about 2 mbps up.
@everythingcubed42103 ай бұрын
Yeah, although we were some of the first people to get the new router. The old routers (sky Q style ones) have some pretty terrible thermals and get super hot, which really slows down the wifi. Ultimately your speed will probably depend on your plan and if you have fibre or not.

We dont get as much speed as you and we're with fibre aswell. We dont have any boosters though, do they come in handy? We dont get wifi from across half out house and we are thinking of getting a booster. For some reason we dont have that purple/grey cable you have. Do we need to buy one? Our internet speed with fiber is up to 70. And it got installed today.. Other issue is We cant connect to our internet now. Im unsure whats the issue is im not an expert in this sort of thing. The highest we get is 10 on ethernet pcs.. And it says our DNS has an issue or something. It jumps from 10 and back down to 3.. Is there a way to solve this?
@everythingcubed42107 ай бұрын
Hello, so the purple cable is only for copper connections. Now that you are on fibre It’s no longer needed. Your speeds will probably be slow if you have a different plan to us - we are on a 500mb/s plan but you could be on a 100mb/s one? And yes we do recommend the boosters, you should be able to get them for free if you give sky a call. Any variations in your speeds are either caused by too much internet traffic in your area or your connection stabilising because it is new. :)

Now, here’s the thing, BT OpenReach is installing all this fibre throughout the UK and BT engineers connect the fibre ONT inside your house. That’s fine, but then you need a service provider to get use of that fibre facilities. I have my copper connection, called FTTC which is ‘Fibre To The Cabinet” and I get my Telephone and Broadband at about 50Mb/s as well as an basic entertainment package from sky. I also have a Satellite Dish on Sky. The entertainment package and the talk package seems quite reasonably priced…. BUT the Broadband cost is very high putting my total cost up to about £60 p.m. My wife and I are pensioners and would like to keep our copper fed phone. The thing that I do not get is why SKY charges so much for the Broadband feed when in fact it was all installed and maintained by BT and OpenReach. It seems to me that Sky is taking advantage of the Fibre Network installed and maintained by BT and OpenReach and charging an excessive amount and profiting excessively. Other providers also charge quite a lot for the Broadband. The entertainment and Talk facility is fine but the add on for Broadband seems excessive.
@everythingcubed42105 ай бұрын
Hello, although BT are probably the main provider there are many others (e.g. if you were to head 5 minutes down our road cityfibre appears to be the provider). We did also have fibre to the cabinet until we were offered full fibre. The reason why we have sky broadband despite them potentially having higher prices is simply due to the interconnected nature of the entertainment and the wifi which enables a mesh network, and the fibre was indeed cheaper than our previous sky plan despite being 400mb/s more - my advice would be to phone them up and say that you are going to switch and then in most cases they will give you a great deal. :)

Hi mate so I'm a fibre engineer, what reason did the engineer give for not installing the fibre where you originally wanted it looks to me that the engineer just went for the easy option, on average as long as there are 2 power sockets and there's an external wall in the room you want it installed there is no excuse not to install it in that room upstairs or downstairs it doesn't matter there are a few exceptions but from the video they don't really apply, as for providers all they do is tell openreach what speed you're paying for and openreach sends that to your ONT/router the main reason you don't get the full 500mb/s all the time is based on how good the splice was in the CSP (grey op box on the outside) there will always be some amount of dust trapped in the splice and other impurities and where the cable plugs into the CBT (fibre terminal on the pole/pit) as it's not spliced in that connection is the weakest link but splicing on a pole it damn near impossible and dangerous due to weather and other factors sorry for the long comment but wanted to also give anyone who read this comment some insight to why they most likely won't get the speeds that they pay for and give some advice, the best advice I will give don't be loyal to any individual provider when your contract runs out figure out what speed you want then compare all the providers and go for the cheapest offer available also if one room in the house is getting weak signal tell your provider you've got a dead spot in the house most providers guarantee signal throughout your home and normally will provide boosters free of charge😉 got to say i enjoyed your vid and have just subbed

@@wozzaclk7798hi so this could be down to many different reasons could be a faulty Ethernet cable from the ont to the router or the engineer who installed your fibre might have installed the incorrect ont inside your house this is a fairly common issue as the different types look identical except the Ethernet port is yellow on the slower ont and orange on the faster Ont but the engineer should be able to get this sorted pretty easy, if it’s the Ont it’s as easy as swapping it over and calling dcoe (openreach) to activate the new Ont

Didn’t think you could use the sky q to bridge WiFi to Ethernet
@everythingcubed421011 ай бұрын
Yep, you can either use it to connect a device to ethernet to provide wifi (e.g for us currently the sky Q box provides the wifi to the booster) or alternatively from a router (or booster) to provide wifi to the sky Q box. (This works for any sky product including the mini box). I think it automatically decides which provides internet to which device depending on which has higher internet speeds.

I can't wait for full fibre to become available in my area. I'm still stuck with Sky FTTC. Connection itself is great and for the 10+ years I've had it, it's been rock-solid stable. My ping with FTTC is great (hovers around 4-5ms to servers nearby when directly connected via Ethernet). However, I want full fibre so I can download larger files much quicker. That's what I'm looking forward to most about upgrading. It doesn't seem like fibre is coming to my area anytime soon though, which sucks.

We didn’t buy it because sky have loyalty benefits, we phoned them because the older sky Q broadband router wasn’t doing us any good, additionally we are on sky because of how all of the products work together as a mesh network - so the router is connected to an Ethernet cable to a downstairs sky Q (video) box which emits a wifi signal that seamlessly connects, same with the Sky Q mini and all of our boosters outside and in dead spots. We’ve been happy and we’re glad we have been able to get these ~50 speeds across our entire home in a remote village on copper cables. Whatever floats your boat.

This video is a bit embarrassing because we were quite young then. So to the comments who say that we might not know the proper names, looking back on the video now we might understand a little where you were coming from. :) Currently, we have internet hardwired to many devices so we are getting 50 download from far away places like our sky Q box, that being hardwired we get the exact same speeds as in the router room, which is great because our SkyQ box acts as a network extender, same with the SkyQ mini box.
@terrydavis14883 жыл бұрын
Hi, as an elderly gentleman, what is the process involved to get Sky Q Box to talk to Router, or am I missing something?
@everythingcubed42103 жыл бұрын
It is very simple, all you need to do is hold the WPS button on both devices and after a few minutes when both lights are green you should be good to go. :) Another way (the proper way) is to go into settings and make sure that the network connection is ticked, if not then you can re-do the network connection. Also it is always worth to do that even if it is ticked if your internet speed is slow in it, the Sky Q box will act as a range extender when connected, if you didn’t know that already. If the router is far away, you might want to bring it closer to the SkyQ hub if you have any closer telephone cables nearby, eventually we had sky put a ethernet (copper cable) down from where the router is located to where the sky Q hub is located. So then the SkyQ hub would have a hard wired stable and very fast speeds the same as you would get if you were close by to the router, this also allowed us to connect our TV, sounbar and any other devices like a game console in. Hope this helps!
