Predisctions: Main event: Bret over Giant, because you want to keep hogan happy but at the same time you gotta take the belt off him at some point. Tag team champ: Faces of fear over mysterio and Ray, because it make sense to continue to build up the faces of fear as a dominant team, and it might a bit weird to have them lose to what seem like a makeshift tag. 6 man: royal tea and Hennig over Arn, smiley and eaton, because Regal is by far the guy that needs to be built up and pushed to the next level in tbis match, and a win against veterans would be very good. RVD over Bam bam, i know its weird but a fluke win leading to a rematch where you can have bam bam beating him senseless and rvd just never giving up until he is turned into mush is a classic yet cool and fitting narrative. Mortis and wrath over dudleys because i have a soft spot for kanyon and he is being cooking lately, a ppv win would be helpful to build the next gen of monster heel tag team. Sting &rick steiner draw vs sci-cotic just to extend the feud and add a juicy stipulation next match Malenko over luger, i know this one is counter productive given the huge gap in star power between the two, but malenko will always be reliable in the ring in some fashion whereas luger will only get worse, and bear in mind they are both aging, i would say mlaenko deserves it more since you can use him to put over other talents going forward in better matches than luger Bagwell over piper, piper may not like it but bagwell is way younger, has some room for improvement and has some good star quality, piper is not getting younger, and while he is good on the mic it is better to have him put over younger guys and transition him into a manager or an on screen personnality/authority figure

Now that we have an actual WCW invasion, this series has left the starting blocks. I like the overall "outsider" feel of it thus far, of the WCW guys not really being part of the show, so much as just being there and interfering with the show. Makes it feel disruptive in the way that an invasion should.

I fully intend to push Jericho to the moon. On the subject of brand splits, however. Not on my watch. I think they are stupid unless done properly (IMO), as in, treated like separate companies.
@nextgreatmedia35524 күн бұрын
Agreed about brand splits, I preferred when it was owner vs. owner in WWF back in 2002. It made more since then an owner just wanting his company broke in half. I'm toying with the idea Bischoff had for a brand split in 98. That's what he was going to use Thunder for, but he was making no money on the show and most guys didn't want to work it so it became a B show by 99. Bishoff lost to Larry Zbysko at Starrcade 97 with control of Nitro on the line, I'm thinking of going this route of having Dusty run Nitro and Eric run Thunder, making them seem as 2 different companies under the "Turner" banner. This will also help me keep some of my backstage issues under control, separating people who hate each other lol.

Love Rey & Ray. That's poetry. Seems like a good lesson was learned with that main event, which would have graded out near 80 if the finish hadn't dragged it down. So, no biggie. You know you'll be able to get the grades otherwise. This show definitely felt very midcard heavy, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but just gives an overall unfocused feeling. Maybe it's just me but it didn't feel like there was a throughline for this episode to keep me pointed forward as a Nitro viewer. Nothing's bad, and there was some definite good, but I just had a bit of a blah feeling over the course of it. Maybe that's because I don't feel particularly attached to this Sting/lWo story at this juncture, so it didn't leave me as much to sink my teeth into. Oh well, that happens. You can't please everyone all the time. I'm looking forward to Road Wild nonetheless.

Yeah, I kinda felt that when I was going through the results. I think it happens every now and then, even big non-wrestling TV shows have episodes that might showcase lesser characters and take a break from the main action. That wasn't my intention, just my retrospective excuse.

I think the problem is that you have too many guys you are building up at the same time and at the same time you are using top guys on pre matches the Jericho and Piper triple threat could have been a main show match B-shows could really help to build up the lower card guys like the Dudley's

It's the first time I've used him properly in a save to be honest, I couldn't bring myself to do it. I wasn't worried about what other people thought, it was a "me" thing. But I guess after 20 years of playing TEW, it's time to let go and let it be.
@nextgreatmedia35529 күн бұрын
Definitely check pops on WCW guys. The last time I did the Invasion in a TEW game, the popularity of the WCW guys were way lower than it should have been. There's a decent video on the KZbin of ten WCW debuts in WWE, and for a lot of guys the roof comes off the place. If you see that (especially watch DDP's debut and Booker T's) you'll see they were much more popular than the mod authors remember. Even DDP coming out as the stalker of Taker's wife(worst storyline ever), they boo the heck out of him until he removes the ski mask and the place erupts in cheers. Of course a few minutes later it's all ruined by the stupid stalker gimmick.
@ruthlessjobber8 күн бұрын

@GregMcNeish11 күн бұрын
Awesome show, with a killer main event. The idea of not putting major stars against each other on TV is a little less important when you've got close to a dozen major stars. Buys a lot more breathing room, because realistically you could get well over a year's worth of big feuds out of them, and that's plenty of time to get a random TV main event or two out of the pairings that aren't at the tippy top of the card. Bret putting up a 95 certainly gives a lot of options for him to face off on TV, since even a talented midcarder should even out to a good grade.
@ruthlessjobber11 күн бұрын

If you don't have a genuine plan for the women's division, try and sign Alundra Blayze/Medusa as she was WCW and left WWF and have her go for that title, or have WCW "sign" Jazz. She was ECW and only part of the alliance for a cup of tea, but if you use the thought that she "signed" with this new WCW, you could have her take the title off Chyna decisively and puts the WWF women on notice. This can also make the title a bit more serious for this time period, as opposed to the T&A spotlight and bathroom break title that it was at this time. Just a thought.

Love the pairing of Hennig & Luger. Two guys that just consider themselves incapable of even the slightest shortcoming. If you wanted to do a cheeky little "get around the trademark" 90s move, you could tweak their team name to Totally Flawless, so that Hennig isn't running the risk of a pretend cease & desist from WWF. Interesting to see the main event go to a draw. Makes sense that Hart didn't win outright, because Road Wild isn't the place to pull out the first big Hogan/Hart match. Looking forward to seeing where you'll go with that. Also, setting up a potential short-term alliance between Booker T & Sting rocks. They'd be a super fun babyface pairing for whenever either one needs to call upon a friend. I always like having that sort of thing for guys like Sting, where they aren't in any sort of group, but they just make a bunch of pals among the other babyfaces. Hopefully this will turn around soon. We're still in the learning curve stage of TEW IX, which always makes for a bumpy ride.

@@ruthlessjobber Definitely take the opportunity to up the pops of people and some of their skills. Even in 2020, which is where I'm playing this mod, there was only one or two major stars in the whole roster. Different guys had low skills, like Jericho and Savage, and so many had their skills capped much earlier than they should be. Either the mod maker based 98 WCW on 99 WCW or just kind of made things a little off. WWF had errors in numbers as well, but WCW was worse, so I think the maker knew more about WWF or had a bit of a bias. What I will say this, the popularity of the company didn't match the popularity and skill of the roster. Immediately when I started (before editing) both WWF and WCW were losing pop, while being in the start of the greatest wrestling boom of the 90s, it made no sense realistically.

Great show! I had a feeling the Hogan/Flair main event wouldn't get a killer grade, but still a satisfying conclusion to the show. Bret Hart went OFF on his match. If you do end up retiring this save, you'd better give me a Hogan/Hart match as a send-off :p I completely understand the frustration, and starting from scratch feels like a good way to go. This is the first time in TEW's long history that there was even the option of converting a save file from the previous game, and from what I've seen across KZbin, it's just sort of a lukewarm affair. Nothing is inherently wrong with how it's converting, but the changes in how match & angle ratings calculate just makes it feel awful in comparison. A new game that's only ever existed in TEW IX won't have that emotional baggage, and you'll be able to enjoy it for what it is, instead of carrying the memories of what once was. Honestly, I was worried about that when I saw all the TEW channels I follow say they were converting over right away. I understand from an algorithm standpoint why that makes sense for KZbin, but I immediately thought of all the version transition growing pains that have always accompanied this franchise and how it could suck the fun out of an ongoing game. I say that if you're not feeling it, don't try to grind it out for our benefit. I want to watch videos where you're having fun, whatever that means.

Ouch! Yeah, that "no associated storyline" penalty is a killer. Fortunately, it's an easy one to avoid, now that you know it's there. Besides that, it was a fun show. I like all the tag team experimentation. Some nice additions to the roster, and lots of potential for growing an exciting division. BASH AT THE BEACH World Heavyweight Championship Hollywood Hogan (c) vs. Ric Flair Fingers crossed that this match delivers, because the promos haven't been lighting the world on fire the way we all would have expected. I'm about 40% on expecting an appearance from The Outsiders. That's where the interesting Ric Flair story lies, not with the Big Gold Belt. Prediction: Hogan United States Championship Booker T (c) vs. La Parka La Parka got the big win over Savage on Nitro, but I don't see the US Title changing hands with this little build. Maybe this is just Round 1 of a bigger program, but regardless, this is an establishment run for Booker T as a singles star. I'm expecting a decently long reign for him. Prediction: Booker T World Tag Team Championship Faces of Fear (c) vs. Los Locos vs. Royal Tea This is where I see the Mexican takeover striking gold. Royal Tea is still a work in progress, and Faces of Fear have now had enough of a run that it doesn't feel hotshotted. Prediction: Los Locos Cage Match Chris Jericho vs. Randy Savage Jericho's star continues to be on the rise, so I absolutely could see him getting the win here (perhaps to setup a huge US title feud with Booker), but man, Savage has been taking some serious L's lately. In the battle between my head and my heart, I'm going with my heart on this one. Prediction: Randy Savage No DQ Match Diamond Dallas Page vs. Sid Vicious Sid got the win at the last PPV, then weaseled his way into a suspension-saving draw. Now that his continued spot on the roster isn't on the line, it's time for DDP to get his heat back. He feels like the perfect person to join forces with another babyface who is fighting against the odds. Maybe Sting. Maybe Hart. Maybe he picks up the scraps of the Giant/Bam Bam blowoff. Prediction: DDP Bret Hart vs. Lex Luger While Liz having to go on a date with Luger would be interesting, this feud has served its purpose, getting Hart established on the WCW roster. I've said it before, and I am still on this train: Bret Hart is the ideal challenger for the big, BIG Hogan title program. Getting the win here sets him up to move onto those greener pastures. Prediction: Bret Hart Bam Bam Bigelow vs. The Giant Coin flip here for me. Goldberg came in and ate their lunch in the triple threat. Since then, this feud has been for second place. Prediction: Bam Bam Eddie Guerrero vs. Sting This is a hard one to call, as this would be a huge introduction for the lWo, but like... it's Sting. I'm going to go with a DQ victory for the Stinger, as Eddie's stablemates turn it into a beatdown. Sting's got to learn the lesson that he needs backup. Prediction: Sting Curt Hennig & Konnan vs. Norman Smiley & Syxx No secret that I'm a Hennig advocate. Why make things more complicated than that? Prediction: Hennig & Konnan The Demon vs. Goldberg GOLD-BERG GOLD-BERG GOLD-BERG Prediction: Goldberg

I really like this as an idea, and I think it lends itself well to the C-Verse, because as you said it's more about just grinding out shows and watching the budget more than telling stories and putting on an entertaining product (both for the in-game fans and for us). One nice thing about the C-Verse is that there are quite a few nobody wrestlers that have kooky, weird little backstories or characterizations in their descriptions that you won't find from real-world mods that tend to have generic descriptions of lesser-known people. It's an area where Ryland and the rest of the development team just have a bit of fun coming up with some nonsense, in a relatively harmless part of the database. So, approach this with a bit of levity, and I think you'll find the C-Verse can be rather enjoyable for this kind of game.

Not trying to artificially keep the foot on the gas, racing from one high-stakes program to the next, but just letting the fallout happen organically. Kudos for that. That's good booking, and good storytelling. Sneaking Bret in the ring with Hogan one more time is a nice way to keep the seed alive for their inevitable title program, that's going to blow the roof off the joint. I can't wait. The Sting considerations are interesting, as he is in a weird spot on a roster that has people older than him all over the main event, while he's also no spring chicken. I don't think there's any harm in putting him in a short-term tag team, as a way to inject a little life into that division, before heading back to singles and mixing it up with the big dogs again. As you said, there's no reason he has to be moving out of the main event scene, so keep him warm, and heat him back up when there's a spot available. That's something the real WCW did a terrible job of, but I'm sure you can handle it better.

Still getting used to the TEW IX changes with this one, so yeah, foot off the gas a little. There's no way I can just ignore Sting, but you're right, very awkward position for him. I think if he was heel I'd have something major for him right now. I think as tag team might be the best course actually.

i'm like you mate 38-39 is the cap for top teer championship
@ruthlessjobberАй бұрын
Yeah, I can't stand stupidly multiple reigns, which you get if someone wins the title 1st at 30, then has potentially another 15 years worth of winning it multiple times if they are still top level in their mid 40's. "I'm a 15 time world champion".... Yeah, means you also lost it 15 times.

Good on Sid, finding a way to stick around. Still unfinished business between him & DDP. Looking forward to a nice blow-off between them.
@ruthlessjobberАй бұрын
Yeah man, I'm hoping there's more to come from Sid. He shouldn't be mid card.

Way ahead of you with Lance....Who's Zilla? I'm not a massive fan of stables although came to realise their benefits with the nWo on my WCW save, so who knows?

Love how easily digestible this series is. The shows just breeze by. I'm a big James Storm fan, so I hope you find a nice role for him on this roster. He's a great veteran presence at this point in his career, and someone that I feel like it makes sense to bounce between midcard tag and singles work, cycling through different young partners on their way up the card.

I love James Storm too. I just hope contracts with other companies don't conflict with our schedule.
