When did he visit the Hopi people, Hopi Sinom, to learn and hear directly from them all this information? "Santa Claus of the Hopi"😆 "Just throw parties and get them to dress up" 🙄 "Toss ground corn at them?"🤨WTF

I recently came across Dana via the Harvard Classics. It’s interesting that a few generations back, he was considered essential reading for everyone, and now he’s relatively obscure.

Zachary Price Dana here ancestor of Richard. I have had many family members one of which is a direct uncle and another an uncles cousin named Richard. Our blood still runs strong and our belief to get better is to put thyself in harsher conditions than were given to in the beginning. Love my family and its history I'm blessed beyond belief.

The most precise lable for Thomas Paine is "liberal" (in modern American sense). He stood for making the Amrican society more just, less hierarchical, more kind, more equal. This is the opposite of what conservatives of the time wanted. They wanted to preserve slavery, to preserve hierarchy, to preserve all the privileges for the rich and slaveowners, to preserve strict and cruel discipline in society.

08:22 It's misunderstanding that they didn't wash themselves and their clothes. They forbade to wash their body and clothes in the rivers and lakes not harm water sources. Washing in bath or tub was fine. Probably they didn't wash ever day or week.. Mongols still don't wash clothes in open water.

Thomas jefferson hated organized religion and the bible too though. And Deism in general seemed pretty common amongst the upper classes at the time. Weird that that is the reason they hated Paine.

It's funny how the only presidents that are considered the best are all presidents who launched the country into a different phase of its life. Washington began the republic, Lincoln began the empowered federal phase, and FDR began the empire phase.

The new generation can't even decide what bathroom they should use. They're right about nothing when it comes to history, since all they seem to want to do is get rid of parts they don't like or agree with, last checked.

John Adams is like US. If you're a southerner trying to trash. Look at Jefferson! Adams is going to be remembered as the hero. Can we get a reconstruction south howl?? When will racism die? Ethics of USA.

I am not sure what you are trying to say here but the content is ruined by the inaccuracies in spelling as well as grammar. I hold the opposite regards to your mention of "Adams... remembered as the hero" as history taught now days revolves around Washington, Jefferson, or Lincoln with not much mention of Adams. It is clear to me that after watching this lecture Adams is the one who made Washington what he is, leading to all the events that concurred. On the subject of racism, call me a hater, but there is no universe that racism does not exist in so it cannot truly die.

Hah 1 comment on John Adams. The South is much better at bad history and being responsible for our filth laughing about racism like it eerily would be acceptable to this audience. 🗑 trash. Why do we allow this southern trash??

I greatly appreciate your knowledge. My ninth great grandfather was treasurer of Newport in 1639, 40, and 41 as well as a surveyor, captain of the militia and surgeon. I would like to learn more if you are familiar with Captain Doctor Robert Jeffrey. I believe that he returned to England to support business activities in the colonies in 1652.

When one is enslaved, whether the owner is demanding, offering to pay, or even just asking nicely, it's never a free choice. Do you think that they would truly feel comfortable turning down the "offer" or requesting more money? It's like saying slaves can consent to have sex with their owners. One slave insisting on something one time doesn't mean all his enslaved workers would feel safe doing the same.

he had slaves, but fortunately, he wasn’t as evil as to be cruel to them! what a relief! i know, people are more complex than just evil/good, and we must be conscious of how they were conditioned by their environment, but it is kinda weird to defend them in this manner: yes they were not the devil, but still it isn’t really excusable

The delivery of the presentation was good- the facts and historical content was somewhat stereotypical- There are over 5,000 books on GAC/ personally i own 250. There are far more authors and historians who’ve studied CUSTER’s entire 36 years! His youth is far more interesting than a womanizer! Fact: he never used tobacco- he wasn’t a religious person, but his wife, Libby was- their black servants name was NOT Bess! It was Eliza! She escaped enslavement and wondered into Custer’s camp during the latter part of CW, stayed with the Custer’s afterwards but met a man married- she remained friends with Elizabeth after Custer died helping’s her with historic accuracy of the CW Custer! He went into West Point with 107 other appointees- 68 would become Cadets! Custer only graduated 34th in his class, not because he wasn’t smart, but because of demerits, other cadets flunking out and southern cadets resigning their US COMMISSIONS TO serve as officers in their southern states! The Confederate Lt, (Janes Washington) was a close friend at WP/ he was the grand nephew of George Washington! Custers hair was not yellow blonde, it was strawberry blonde or reddish. He had blue eyes! You left out the stock market crash of 1873! It affected jobs, immigrants coming into eastern seaboard! The US broke the Laramie Treaty (Crazy Horse and Sitting Bull never attended or agreed) Custer was given many names over his career/ at WP he was called Fanny (his fair complexion), Cinnamon because he used cinnamon oil in his hair! He was called Boy General by the Northern Press! He was called Iron Butt and Hard Ass by his troops out west! Crown gave him the honor of Son of the Morningstar, the Cheyenne called him Hietzi-Creeping Panther, the Lakota- Long Hair- If you read more about the CIVIL WAR CUSTER, you’ll get a far more VICTORIOUS GAC than your emphasis on “Luck”! He’s the youngest MAJOR GENERAL in US (not including Marquee deLafayette under Washington) I suggest Custer Victorious by Professor Greg Urwin (Temple U) Glorious Was by Thom Hatch A Road We Do Not Know by Fred Chiaventone The Sacrificial Lion by Brice Custer The BoyGenerals trilogy by Al Ovies Touched By Fire- Louis Barnett Personal Recollections of a Cavalryman by Major J. H. Kidd Custer and His Wolverine’s by Longacre

Oh my ... this lecture is actually pretty poor🙄The "Oversimplified: Napoleonic Wars" is so much more factually accurate than this (despite all the jokes there). Even if I ignore that pretty much every name of a French city, or other European city, get slaughtered, I can't look past the fact that every Declaration of War on France by the various coalitions gets presented as "Napoleon invades ...", or that the various coalitions get lumped together as 'after defeating Austria Napoleon invades Prussia'. So many details are incorrect. For eample, suggesting the Imperial Guard was never deployed in battle prior to Waterloo is simply nonsense. One counter example; the deployment of the Imperial Guard in the Battle of Krasnoie, November 17th, 1812, on the retreat from Moskou, pretty much saves what's left of Napoleon's Grand Armee at great expense in casualties to the Guard. Calling Austerlitz "luck" is seriously astonishing ... since when is it luck when you bait an enemy into a trap and they squarely fall for it? In that case you can call any victor in battle simply "lucky".
