Hi! I'm sorry that you are experiencing this issue, I think that it is because it is at the first frame of the animation which causes simulation nodes to bug out a bit. The easiest way I know of to fix it is to keyframe the duration of the smears to 0 on the first frame and then up it afterwards. I will continue looking for a fix for this but in the meantime, this is the best workaround I know of. Sorry for the inconvenience!

Hey, I'm currently trying to use Autosmear V2 on blender 3.6.11 and whenever I try applying it to a mesh, the mesh disappears. Any clues on how to fix this?

Been having a ton of fun with the addon so far! Just one downside I'm not sure if anything can be done about or might be beyond the scope of the project, but don't suppose there's an easy way to have the trails animate on 2s? This is a common issue I've had with all geonodes that rely on simulations, I can workaround the ones that use scene time or frame by replacing them with a keyframed value and applying a stepped modifier on the curves in the graph editor, but not sure anything of the sort can be done with simulations.

Technically it does work with 4.0, but there is a major bug in that version where simulation nodes doesn't work if you undo at all, so I would recommend using 4.1 or higher.

Hey, I'm considering buying this addon, but I have a pretty important question. Does the simulation always work in world space or object space? Or is there a way to switch it? It may sound like it's not a big deal, but imagine you have a character running very fast, or when it's parented to a different object, like a vehicle and you want the simulation to behave exactly like when the character is standing still. It would create a very weird result where the trails are all over the place.

The full smears are in world space because of the fact that they are a separate object from the one you are adding the smear to, so if you have a character parented to a different object, it will take the movement of both the character and the parent into account.

@@3DDan_ oh that's a shame, do you think it is possible to somehow bake the geometry nodes before parenting so that the smear object can be parented later without changing the appearance? or is it possible to change it in the node tree itself? if it worked, this addon would be even better than it is now

@@K4animation Sorry for the late reply, I have been out of town for a little bit now. If you have a character animation and something you need to parent the character to, you could do the smear before parenting, then go to the physics tab with the smear selected and press 'Bake'. Then you can do your parenting, but you would have to parent both the smear and the character. I believe that this would achieve your desired result, but I understand this workflow might be a little annoying so I will see if I can figure out how to do it in the geometry nodes trees, but working with world > object space and vice versa is a little tricky in geometry nodes currently so sadly no promises.

I'm having trouble attaching these trails to more than 3 objects in a video. I get to the fourth object and the trail is just flying off in a random direction, usually down. I'm fairly certain that I'm doing the same process as I did when I attached the first 3 trails... Edit: Yeah I don't understand. I made a blank document. I added the trails before i moved the object, AND after i moved the object. I did the vertex group thing, called it trail, and it worked perfectly. Then I went to the animation I'm working on (which admittedly has a lot of elements), added the vertex group, called it Trail, added the trail to the already moving object (which I did in the test document) and now the trail is moving downward, perpendicular from the moving object. I tried deleting a lot of stuff, it didn't work. I tried baking the trail, didn't work.

Hello, the video looks fantastic and is the addon I was hoping for. I am testing it for free on Gumroad. However, if you select Add Straight Smear, the character mesh disappears. I tested it with a box, but it also disappeared. I created the box, created the animation, and selected Add Mesh -> Add Straight Smear. Did I miss anything? I hope there is a solution.

@@SodasDog This for sure sounds like a version mismatch. I've had people come to me with the addon crashing blender when adding the full smear and it is because they are using an outdated blender version. I would recommend using blender version 4.1 which comes with a lot of stability fixes and new features for geometry nodes.

I would recommend baking the simulation in the physics tab with the geometry nodes object selected. I've had this happen a couple of times and baking has always fixed it for me. If that doesn't work let me know and I can try to find another way to fix it. Sorry for the inconvenience!

Nice addon indeed. Exporting the model with animation however (glb) shows me the trail only as a 2D plane (in Godot). In Blender itself the trail animation looks fine.

I would recommend exporting in the alembic file format (.abc) as it works best with simulation nodes from my testing. I am not sure if Godot supports alembics, but if it doesn't you could just reimport the alembic into a fresh blender scene, and then export that as glb (or whatever file format like fbx or obj sequence).

Hey, if you are using the full smears then you could for sure do it, in Cycles just select the smear object then go to object > visibility > ray visibility and uncheck shadow. If you're in Eevee then you can turn the shadow off in the material settings. If you are using the straight smears it would be a bit harder but I'll figure something out to include in the next update.

If you want to know how to bake it before exporting, just select the smear object and go to the simulation tab and hit bake. Sadly I believe that this only works for the paid version, but I am working on a way to export the free version and once I do that I'll release another update.

Hey, I would suggest watching my newer videos on this addon since this one is a little outdated, but it sounds like you are just using an outdated version of blender. This addon works best on 4.1 but it won't work with any version less than 3.6 I believe.

I've just tried it on versions 3.6.1 and version 4.1, still no luck. The first time I managed to install the free version, but anytime I tried to use it, the mesh the effect as attached to disappeared, and when I tried to get the full version, it says its installed, but it never shows up in my addons when I search it in Blender. Suggestions?

Hey there, I get weird results everytime I try to use the straight smear. Hello, sorry you are experiencing this, my best guess is that it is because of blender 4.0. 4.0 has some really bad geometry nodes bugs that make simulation nodes (which is what the addon uses) basically unusable. I would recommend updating to 4.1 and if that doesn't work let me know and I'll try to help you out.

Heya! Just downloaded the addon but I've been having an issue. Any mesh that i add auto smear to just fully disappears and can't be seen in any viewport until I remove the modifier. Tested it in multiple different blend files and it seems to be consistent. Is the add on simply not compatible yet with 4.0? However it seems more resonable that I am doing something wrong

Hey, this sounds like it could be a miss-match in blender version, did you download the 4.1 or 4.0 version of the addon? Either way I would recommend using blender 4.1 because 4.0 has some REALLY bad stability issues and a bug where the exact thing you are describing happens if you undo at all. Is this addon not currently fully compatible with Blender 4.0? It seems to work for the most part, but if at any point after adding the Full Smear I hit undo for anything, the entire smear effect disappears completely. I rolled back to 3.6 and noticed the issue didn't occur there.
