How did you remove the castle rail? I thought that it was spot welded to the floor panel? Also, when you refitted it, did you plug weld it to the floor or just seam weld along the length of the join as visible in the video? Thanks

@mducker1 I drilled the spot welds out on the rail. On refitting some puddle welds were added and then stitched across the floor.

Sorry to jump on this post so long afterwards, but was it a pain to get the clamps back on over silicone couplers? I installed jubilees, but I'm getting a small vapour leak of oil on the large horn side so thinking about going back to the original clamps

Turned out better than we thought, the diff oil was changed after 500 or so miles as per their documentation, apart from this it's reeb "Ripped" on a lot since installing. Certainly an easy swap if your crownwheel is in good condition.

How much of the installation of the mx5 engine and gearbox can you get in a kit and how much would you have to get fabricated yourself?

It been installed for over 10 years now, at that time there were no kits to install. I think there is a gearbox mount from Vitesse but the rest needs to be built.

I just got one for my slowly building aero mini..I had pacesetter one time abd was wayy too loud abd replaced it with an nvida but the price was rite on this exhaust.. I ported entire intake Manifold, exhaust header flange on aftermarket headers ,ported facelift sc and 19% pulley, ported ic horns, 65mm tbody , 3in intake , step colder plugs , Malian exhaust and jcw injectors..will have adriancl the master tune it soon as my lightweight flywheel and upgraded clutch are broken in

I'm from the Miata community. You seem to be the only person with videos where they push this engine and radiator setup (civic half radiator). How does it do for cooling? Any time this is suggested in a Miata group (so you can run an intercooler next to it) everyone says it will overheat as soon as you drive it hard

100% never overheated on track or road. Not sure why they suggest against it as it was used in the Bengi setups for years. Honda engines are known for being efficient, their cooling system also. So it was obvious to me that the radiator would be perfect, in fact it probably cools the motor too much in winter without a different thermostat. If it's good enough for 400bho K20/24 motors it's good enough for sub-300 MX5 lumps.

Hey I want to buy the exact same kit for my 1.8l mx5 and have plans to turbo it, I don’t have a mega squirt, I have a ecu made by RM racing electronics. When purchasing your item you have to choose options for your exact ecu and I don’t know what to click as you don’t have this company as an option. If you could let me know what to do that would be great, thanks.

Hello Steve. Some restorers don't bother, I've restored a few "roofed" cars and had issues afterwards by not bracing, so for a little bit of box and some welding it seemed sense.

Hello Stu. Yes it made a massive difference on my last track day, also stopped the axle scrub on hard cornering. Correct, this was what took the time to sort, I suppose an off the shelf kit gets over that, but wheres the fun.

Just about to fit this exhaust, one video showed had melted rear valance as too close, have you had any similar issues or was it easy to adjust tip height to stop this?

Did you weld the inner membrane and outer sill inside the footwell panel or outside? Mine were inside. It will all be covered up so it probably doesn't matter.

Good job man, are very interest in your progress as I replaced my sills not so long ago. Very envious you have the use of a lift, I worked on mine using jack stands and "creeper" to get under the car. Its certainly satisfying to watch progress and share the experience with others. Cheers!

Thank you. Its the second set I've put on the car, thankfully this time they will last longer with the limited wet use it gets. The lift helps no end, I ended up revisiting the drivers side and seam welding that a little more.

I have to do mine i have looked at loads of MGBs the factory ones the doors fit flush at the rear bottom corner most rebuilt ones the doors either stick out or are pushed in. Is there a problem with the repair panels or the door rubbers. I think I noticed that you took off the hinges and then put them back did you fit the doors for finally aligning the outer sill?

Gday David - the door rubbers are a pain it is super common to hear folk who have issues with them or have to put up with time to "bed them in". An important thing to note is the alignment of the door cards versus the seal. The door cards often have foam do any overlap on the door seals will double your problem. I ensured I had no foam on the leading edge of the door cards where they sat against the seals! Doors required some subtle bending and use of jack to "encourage" positioning them.

This is amazing. I’ve got a mgb and a mg but wanted to see if I could put a civic engine inside. Pretty sure way more fabrication then I could handle but out of curiosity, how much would you charge just to do a stock Miata into mg swap? Read a couple forums but they were not as detailed

😀😀😀 Currently at the 200bhp mark, the build has a lot more to give just that clutch being the weak link.
