@@simplelogic9090 And in the process Northern Ireland was left to the colonizers where they discriminated, exploited and terrorized the Irish population. And then when the Irish rebelled against that, the British had the willing help of the Irish government in Dublin in fighting Irish resistance. Traitors wrapped in the Union Jack indeed.

This moment is very deep Damien was never a fighter,(in fact he was a doctor) but when duty called he had to become one and take on the responsibility. After he killed Reilly for selling them out he was never gonna allow himself to take an easy way out of this. Like Shakespeare says: “some are born great,some achieve greatness and there are those who have Greatness thrust upon them”

What was the alternative a full on invasion by the British army we didn't have the arms to take them on head on they would have sent all of their forces here and massacred every Irish man woman and child it would have been worse then the Boer war concentration camps. Which only ended twenty years before the Irish war of independence ended. Trading space for time was the pragmatic move and we could have taken the north back if there was no civil war. The result is inevitable now we will reunify eventually it may take longer but there was no option other than signing the anglo Irish treaty.

To me the great paradox of Dean's acting is that he makes it appear so natural, even spontaneous, as though he doesn't quite know what's going to happen with his blocking, gestures, reaction to lines spoken by the other actors, etc. (the lines he speaks were always the ones in the script). But it is all clearly very calculated. To give the illusion of spontaneity he had to be totally in control of every aspect of his performance in a scene. He would practice his part in a scene for kours alone at his apartment or trailer, standing in front of a mirror, trying this expression or that gesture, changing it over and over until he had captured the one he wanted. He was meticulous and exacting and it NEVER feels that way when you watch him in a scene. The magic that comes with old-fashioned hard repetitive work and that results in the effort appearing to be totally spontaneous.

Honest answer, I don’t know. Were they going to win a war against Britain? Was radical socialism going to be embraced by the Irish people? I doubt it. The creation of the Irish Republic was an immense, though limited, accomplishment. It may be there is unification yet, and without the bloodshed.
@jedsithor Жыл бұрын
It's complicated. In the years following the civil war, successive governments gradually dismantled the treaty until Ireland became a republic, completely separate from the UK. However, the North remained under British occupation and rule (and still does) oppressing Irish Nationalist communities, colluding with Loyalists to do so, which resulted in the rise of a new version of the IRA and the Troubles while in the Republic, the Church had a stranglehold over the country, aided by whichever government was in power. In a sense, they're both right and that's the tragedy of it.
