Cr(VI) is a killer, it’s in >40% of all applied paints, it’s in insulation that becomes hotter then 300 degrees Celsius and when welding stainless steel it’s formed due to the chromium in the alloy and the high temperatures oxidate it in Cr(VI). In the Netherlands 1 microgram/m3 is the limit value in the air, so that is compared to a sugar grain 1/500th of a sugar particle..

I find that putting on a rubber dish glove to hold the top in place is extremely helpful and makes trying to twist the bottom off a lot easier. Otherwise it’s impossible. Also, putting something to capture any water spillage underneath is important.

When you're trying to open the housing, did you make sure to relieve the pressure by turning on the cold water faucet handle, so no water comes out, after shutting off the cold water valve? I ask because without doing this step, you've got around 1,000 pounds of pressure applied to the system, which would be impossible for anyone to loosen! The rubber dish glove is a very good suggestion. It's also definitely helpful to have a towel to catch any water spilling from the housing (as the housing is full of water)! You can also try the method shown in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/q3fNqX13rtOrhJY I hope this helps! Thank you for using Hydroviv!

@WaterNerdTVАй бұрын
Some people do have two systems, one for hot, and one for cold. In most cases, having one on the cold water side is sufficient, as the water you drink should be dispensed from the cold water side, and not the hot water side. Our Founder and Chief Scientist explains it in this video: kzbin.infoWlhepNQjNyo

All of our filters are specifically tailored to the water chemistry in the locations that they are going to be installed. Each order that comes in is assessed by our science team, where they look up the water data for the area specified by the order, and the filtration media blend that's needed is determined from there, and the filters are then built to order. The filters currently stocked and sold by Amazon are "one-size fits all."

I have a hydroviv and even my plumber could not install it. He said it’s too big for my built in fridge and if we put it behind it the fridge will stick out too far into the kitchen. He even cut a hole in my wall to see if it would fit on the other wall and it won’t. There is no room in the cabinet above and behind the wall next to my washing machine won’t work either because my plumbing is too old to tie it into. So, I spent all this money on a HUGE filter, larger than any other I have used next to the fridge. Had I known, I would have never purchased it. Company won’t take it back and won’t return emails. Think twice before purchasing. It’s definitely not working for everyone.

Turning off by water at the source does not allow for "easy" replacment. It is very very difficult. There is no leverage to turn the casing to remove. Every time it is a dreaded task. This filter is great but the replacement is a dreaded task. NO LEVERAGE. Would be a great design imporvement if you could have 2 tool the work together to give better leverage to break through.

It's highly likely that you have hard water. Most all water filters.Ironically, do not filter for hard water.
@WaterNerdTV2 ай бұрын
If you have hard water, depending on how hard it is, you may not need to treat it. If you do want to treat it, you can use a water softener. Or if you want to remove the minerals, a Reverse Osmosis system will do that. However, in this case, the cloudy water has nothing to do with the mineral content in the water. If you watch the video, you'll see that the water contains dissolved air (which happens when there's air in the line or pressure in the system, like when it is first installed). The bubbles rise up to the top and dissipate, leaving you with a clear glass of water in just a couple minutes.

The optimization process for our drinking water systems is based on your shipping address. When we get an order, our Water Nerds: 1. Analyze millions of water quality measurements from local, county, state, federal, academic, and our own test database. 2. Cross-reference these data with the latest toxicology thresholds (not outdated regulatory limits). 3. Select filtration media that fixes the problems found in your water (dirty secret: not all types of filtration media work in all types of water). 4. Build a customized filtration system that is specifically optimized for the problems with your water.

We have your zip code on your account (that already has your address, zip code, formulation) so we don't need to ask for the information again. Obviously, if something has changed (such as if you've moved and are at a different address) between filter changes, you will need to let us know so we can update your formulation appropriately.

We have extensive data on contaminants found in the water, so we are able to build our filter formulations in a way that are robust enough to cover minor differences (such as different neighborhoods using the same water system or even cities with similar water chemistry). In addition, we are proactive when we formulate a filter, so we include specific contaminant removal media if we have good reason to believe it's in the water, even if it's not specifically reported by the municipal water companies, to ensure that you're covered!

We match your filter formulation to your water chemistry. We have a proprietary algorithm that we use where we prioritize contaminants to build the formulation. We check to make sure your water chemistry has not changed before your replacement cartridge is sent out. Obviously if there are any changes, or if you have moved, we will need that information from you to make sure we update your formulation to match the water chemistry at your new location.

We're very sorry you're having difficulties. I have included some tips below for opening the system. Tips for opening the system: ◽️Double-check that you have shut off the cold water supply under your sink. ◽️Turn on the cold water faucet so that all the water can drain out of the cold water line. (This releases the pressure inside the housing. If you don't release the pressure inside the housing, there will be several thousands pounds of pressure inside the housing making it impossible to open). ◽️Remove the system from the mounting screws if it is mounted on your cabinet wall. ◽️Make sure that you are using the blue wrench. ◽️Slide the blue wrench all the way up the housing. You can also wrap a hot, damp towel around the lid for 3-5 minutes before you begin.

How does the PFAS get into it? If it is human poop
@WaterNerdTV2 ай бұрын
Unfortunately it's not just poop. The problem is industrial runoff, much of which has contained PFAS, and this industrial waste gets mixed into the poop and so the whole mixture gets contaminated. Then they process it into "biosolids" but the PFAS and other chemicals in the runoff remains, (the processing does not remove toxic contaminants). When this is then spread onto the farmland, it contaminates the soil and consequently the crops grown on it. Also, because of how soluble PFAS is, it can seep down from the soil into the ground and contaminate the water sources below (like the groundwater aquifers). If it was only poop, it wouldn't be such a big deal. The problem is that they mix that with all the other waste products including the chemical waste, creating a dangerous and toxic mixture that does more harm than good.

One major flaw I see is that most of the filtered water coming through the faucet goes directly down the drain. Assuming the water filter is awesome,, I would provide a valve for the cold water to connect a line going to a water faucet dedicated for drinking water. These units are expensive and so are the replacement filters.

You only hook it up to your cold water? So the hot water isn’t filtered??
@WaterNerdTV3 ай бұрын
We show the installation on the cold water line because that's the side most people use for their water for drinking and cooking. The hot water would not be filtered unless you have a separate filter for the hot water line as well. If you're drinking or cooking with the water, we urge you to use the cold water side and heat up the water separately if you need it hot. I have been doing this ever since a chef at a cooking school told us that this was what he always did (he NEVER cooked with water coming from the hot side). Even municipal water companies suggest this, mostly because there's usually a lot of buildup and residue that collects in the hot water heater, and you don't want that in the water you're consuming. For installation, you could install a separate system on your hot water line. Some of our staff (personally) use one on the hot water side and have no issues.

We wish there was an easier, less costly way to do it but these rapid tests just aren't accurate enough to provide meaningful or useful information.
