I got lucky on my first playthrough. 47 hours and still kicking. But i do have other playthroughs simultaniously because i realized magiclism and arcana were a thing. And there is only one thing that makes zombie survival better, and that is magic. And dinosaurs too because why the heck not

Is it just a bad idea to hack this system for a superhero genre game? I don't mean making it easier, I just mean I like X-Men Legends more than Diablo.

Ohh I don't know. Making classes and Spells for Basic Fantasy is not as hard as for say Pathfinder but you'd have to be careful with balancing. It sounds like a fun idea though. Maybe you can get some tips on the BF Discord Server or check out the Supplements: Additional Classes on www.basicfantasy.org/downloads.html There you can also find bonus rules for stuff like secondary abilities, extra combat options and many other things that may help you hack the game. Thank you for your comment!

you butchered the entire lore so some scientists found how to make portals through other dimensions and accidentally bring a coinscious airborn disease with the name XE-037 because that disease is airborn it manage to infect the entire world and made people aggresive and violent the goverment didn't know the disease was spreading and thought the people were just rioting meanwhile earth gets invaded by alien and organisms from other dimensions causing the cataclysm with the world being a decayed biohazard and XE-037 constantly evolving and having every living organism including the player and animals resurrected after their death (also that happens in the game every corpse gets back in life if you don't smash it that why the little warning sign exist)

I literally started save scumming just to have room to learn more game mechanics, than activate item and aim and shoot. After getting to zone management and electric grid, I can tell, the game would be far more forgiving with more explanations and tutorials.

The dead zombies were likely due to a rouge robot from a nearby bank. The appropriate response to that is to RUN, not loot the bodies. Really entertaining perspective- I would love to see a long play series from you on this game!

"I will introduce you to an TTRPG" It's RPG, not TTRPG. There are RPGs and cRPG. Latter are video games. Period. A short rant from Grognard. I hate that term, which means "I bow down and let my arse be raaaped by video gamers." A name for this genre was already established in 1970's. No need to create a new one. Especially when crpgs are not rpg in any sense. There's no role playing element in them.

In the back of the Rulebook in the GM section, it mentions that if the character has a negative cumulative bonus, you can have them subtract each score from 21, and that will provide a positive cumulative bonus. For example, your rolls would end up being 11, 10, 14, 12, 13, 14 at the start, which is much better to work from as your bonuses would then be +0, +0, +1, +0, +1, +1. This takes your below average character to an above average character, average being a cumulative bonus of 0.

I don't understand why the rules don't use a simpler 8 + d10, except for the prime requisite for the class, 14 + d4. I can't remember which older set of rules stated that the character should have a minimum of two 15's to be viable.

I really like the idea in Knave that a spellbook can only contain a single spell, so if you want to have access to lots of spells you have to lug around a mobile library of spellbooks.

Great video, it's nice to see what options are out there! 5e has been my main for a while, but I've been more and more interested in OSR stuff. I haven't played Basic Fantasy, but I really love Old School Essentials, which is also simple and customizable! I played a bit of Call of Cthulhu years ago and still have the 6th Edition rulebook, I'd love to play more of it some time.

My group started playing this. We had a character die before even any combat because he opened a door away from the party and poison spores killed him. Its refreshingly challenging and simple. The module we play is about a giant dwarven city (dungeon) that you just explore, sell loot, rinse repeat. Much less roleplay heavy than D&D

Thank you for the informative video. I would like to try some of these one day. So far I have only played D&D 5e, Kingdom RPG, and Pathfinder 2e. One of my biggest problems is that my friends and I are not native English speakers, we play our games in Turkish, so it's aukward referring to English rules all the time. I am also the only person who is somewhat proficient in English, so they have a very hard time understanding the rules unless I translate for them. Unfortunately, there is no RPG market in Turkey where we can get official translations. One day, I got tired of translating and explaining things on the spot, so I decided to sit down and write a Turkish version of 5e's rules. It took about two weeks to translate all the core rules. And I spent several months translating a lot of the character options. I realized that I was actually a pretty good at translator. I also made a summarized translation of Kingdom RPG but I can't publish it due to copyright issues. Maybe I can contact Ben Robbins to publish it officially, who knows? Kingdom RPG is good for casual one-shots, and it can be learned easily. But I don't get to play it much. Anyway, in the end, I let go of 5e and switched to Pathfinder 2e. It was quite refreshing because I am obsessed with character balance and had to constantly homebrew character options in 5e to fix what I perceived as unbalanced. I almost never had to that with PF2e, only some reflavoring. Of course, I was crazy enough to undertake the same project for PF2e, back in August. The core rules are complete but I'm still working on the character options. I tried to stay faithful to the original but I did end up reordering a lot of the content to make it more understandable. I also introduced some nomenclature that was not there, such as a term uniting weapons and unarmed attacks so I can easily refer to both of them. Since the rules and all the character options are available for free on aonprd, I don't think I'll have any issues if I publish it for free. Wish me luck! P. S. If anyone was wondering, I will not publish my 5e translation because I want PF2e to be more popular lol. There is already another fan translation of 5e but it's pretty bad. P.S. Another problem I had was that both 5e and PF2e sourcebooks were pretty expensive. Buying anything from abroad is expensive here. But there is a solution: There is a virtual TTRPG simulator called Fantasy Grounds on Steam. There, you can buy sourcebooks as DLCs, for use your in your online RPG sessions(but you can open it up in game and read it too). And since Steam has a merciful currency exchange, it's much cheaper to buy the sourcebooks from there (Although that might be changing, because Steam updated its currency policy and the new PF2e book Impossible Lands costs 510₺, whereas the older books cost around 70₺ each). You can even get the PDFs if you sync your account with Paizo. That was a long and slightly unrelated ramble. Thank you for reading!

B/X and Basic Fantasy are probably my favorite systems. I like the simplicity of the rules which allows me to homebrew stuff really easily and it's also really easy to teach other people how to play which is great since I think a lot of people can get intimidated by big rule books and manuals that they end up not wanting to play.

You are my kind of nerd. I love BFRPG too, my group uses more C&C just because it has more player options and more support material as we play very long campaigns it's nice to have more player options, since they we be playing with those characters for years. But when we want a more old-school feel for a more deadly game section or small campaign we use BFRPG.

Nice overview comparison of several good games (and some that I am unfamiliar with and can therefore say nothing about). Call of Cthulhu 7e is my pick for a game that is very close to perfect. Unlike some games that have changed radically from edition to edition, Cthulhu has remained pretty consistent with only minor edition changes, but ultimately I think the 7th edition has refined the game's system to provide a really outstanding play experience - better than any other game. I also have found Pathfinder to be a very solid system, although it is a lot to manage for the game master. Pathfinder was my main system for many years. Basic Fantasy RPG is a very good overall choice and for fantasy is my current favorite. You have basically explained just why it is an excellent choice in your vids, so I will simply say that I am in agreement! A couple of games that you do not mention that I find enjoyable are Traveller which has an extended history and remains a solid choice for a space game, and GURPS which is my first choice for a generic system. GURPS does gritty realism better than Savage Worlds, scales up and down better and ultimately seems more flexible - which is obviously important in a "generic" system. It does cost more than Savage Worlds, however.
