Cool work, though I was hoping to learn a bit about the controller itself. I have some old Sansui speakers and this is the first time I've seen that name elsewhere so I was curious what was special about this hardware.

@@mathemartemis4623 The Sansui controller offers a pseudo stereo sound with panning audio depending on which direction (left or right) on the D-pad you press.

@ Most of the consoles and controllers I buy from Hard-Off stores in my area. Often for 100-500 yen. The tools and equipment(screwdriver set, hot air/rework station) I got off Amazon.

Looks like an absolute nightmare. You might as well have just bought a new one for the amount of things you replaced and the amount you paid for said parts. A good condition new one may generally cost a little more, but you’d have gotten a first party shell which would’ve made it well worth it, given that the third party shell options available are lackluster. You made due with what you had, though. If good condition first party parts were more accessible, this could’ve been a more satisfying restoration , but alas.

@@certifiedfridge luckily the cpu-20 motherboard can be modded to add brightness settings similar to the DS Lite using flash me. I like the phat model because it is more comfortable to hold and the clicky buttons have a better feel than the DS Lite. If the phat had the DSi screens it would be perfect.

Stay OEM for sure. That dark and very light plastic of the bottom shell is crazy. Most aftermarket shells use the same cheap plastic for the entire shell that feels very brittle plus paying someone for their time and the shell would probably be $100. Not worth it to make your DS worse

The shell is really good, the main difference I noticed is the buttons sit a little bit shallower, but for me it doesn’t affect my gameplay. The volume button needed a little filing to slide smoothly.

That is a nice looking shell! Love the DSi for its form factor, you can buy them pretty cheap and they are so easy to homebrew. I should re-shell my beater one I throw in my pocket almost every day, daily use has roughed it up quite a bit. Keep up the good work

This is probably one of the better / best videos to exist within this specific console shell swapping. No super up close shots, no out of range shots, all around perfect. The wii looks super intimidating from other videos but watching this is giving me the confidence to consider doing a shell swap.
