Agree, and disagree. I think that the big builds are good and for the full time content creators the big projects and them building them can sometimes help them chill in their own thoughts without needing to make content. But the burnout is real. To fix this they sound do the big builds in stages and not burnout to complete all in one go.

You know, I actually really liked your "videos and gaming youtube" assessment. I've noticed quite the same, and it's honestly refreshing to see a return to more laid back, 'just for fun' content instead of content farms / high output channels. (let alone the fake hyperactive-ness that often goes with them) I've been wanting to get into making gaming videos since around Nathan's original Pixelated Pickaxe videos, way back. But managing time, workflow & tech limitations always put that on the backburner. Your series has sort of re-ignited that want in me; it's style very inspirational. I think I might just try my own gameplay/let's plays soon. :) To paraphrase what you said - it can be so nice to just make something for yourself, and see people, new and old, attract to it & become part of the journey, in a way. A totally unexpected, but welcomed experience. That's the type of content, imho, KZbin needs again. Thanks for making these! :D

(°〇°) Intro aside, (XD I'm so sorry) nice ending to the series. Sort of building off of what you were saying, I think part of the appeal of classic Minecraft (beyond nostalgia) is the boring monotony & simplified limitations. Sort of forces people to use their imaginations more. That, coupled with nostalgia, is why I think people come back and revisit the older versions from time to time. (there's even a whole community around it!) Ironic that the Dragon boss fight is so... calm. But the soothing simplicity is what made Minecraft fun. It's also unintentionally hilarious to return to, being so used to later updates. XD That's probably a factor too. Thoroughly enjoyed the series. What's next in store from Immabed?

I've got a couple more things coming related to this series, but after that I'm not sure! Certainly nothing consistent (unless it's something like this, consistent for a short time), but I have a few ideas. My main problem is finding time, especially since my work takes me out of town during the week, so no promises of future videos.

Count me as one of those "still double tap to run" people. XD I didn't realize they changed it for the longest time. In games with double jump you almost always double press the button for that - doing the same for "fast running" is just normal to me. Sorry about your luck with the portal, but hey, led to a cool cave-exploring adventure! I used to use a different method for conquering the lava pools/lakes, but water bucket is just way faster. Still, though - sometimes there are goodies hidden just beneath the surface. Such a pain to mine obsidian without enchantments. :P

I think most people think this is the worst Minecraft terrain gen era. Alpha & Beta were more robustly uneven, and could contain overhangs & huge mountains. Modern? (when was this changed... I think even before Caves & Cliffs, but that certainly added) updated things, also bringing the larger-ish mountains & mountain ranges back. The 'middle' era had a lot of flat, same-y looking landscapes, the lack of biomes not withstanding. Still, it's pretty nostalgic and cool to revisit from time to time. Love the old, generic villages too! Once more on the mob pathfinding - I think part of what made Creepers "scarier" back in the day was like what happened in your video - they often get caught on little enclaves & behind trees. If you weren't looking that way (or were deep in a dark cave) and didn't know they were there, they could "pop out" Herobrine style right next to you! XD And they had a knack for hiding just in the blind spots outside of your house/base - stuck wall hugging trying to get to you. Once you know it, though, you have a lot less scares. And, as I said on a previous video, the mob pathfinding has been greatly improved since. But there are elements of it that, intentional or not, (usually the latter) lead to interesting behavior - sometimes a better experience imho. Sometimes. As for the gravel texture (and most textures, really) I tend to prefer the OG textures AND the modern textures. Similarly to world gen, qol tweaks, etc - there's a magic to the older Minecraft, though limited, that still lends itself well to fun gameplay. The complete texture overhaul (1.14?) was cool too - new wheat? cobble? etc - count me in! The in-between 'growing pains' era is sort of funny. You could start to tell the seams were breaking, and the newer added blocks just weren't meshing with the old too well. But, imo, since Minecraft is such an intentionally throwback blocky game, I tend to prefer the older textures, even the ugly ones (looking at you, gravel & netherrack) because they complete that aesthetic. When 32x32 (and beyond) texture packs were all the rage, I thought they called too much attention to the disparity between the HD textures and otherwise super blocky world. Almost made it look like a bad N64/PS1 game. The old textures fit the older look without going overboard. The newer textures, although often higher detailed/more shaded, look clean in their own way. In other words, I think the era-appropriate textures look best where appropriate. Old Minecraft played with backported modern textures, or modern Minecraft played with programmer art + old cobble, gravel, etc - is sort of the worst of both worlds. A lot of the in-between era feels like that. Less so in 1.0, but noticeable. I remember in the PPX episode after the cobble texture change, everyone was a little put off by it. All their cobblestone builds were suddenly much lighter, less contrasty. Improved some builds, but made a lot look so different from the original intent. Interesting how even the smallest texture tweak can spark such big differences in a dense server with lots of builds.

I suppose there exists record, but not proof :). Only proof is my fallible mind. Watching back I'm not sure if the water was blocked by an enderman, or if there was falling gravel (perhaps itself enderman triggered). There is some gravel on the hill where the water probably came from.

IDK if it would be possible, but I sorta wish it could make a comeback in modern Minecraft - as a much weaker alternative to the shield, in case one breaks. (or you haven't built one yet) Maybe as a sword fighting/fencing mechanic for PvP? That random creeper was pretty freaky too! O.o

Yeah, the balancing is definitely interesting in the older versions. I guess it's not just my memory that some of the monsters were "harder" than they are in the present game. Then again, once you know the secret (blocking the blaze spawner) they're WAY easier. ;)
@immabed
@immabed 11 ай бұрын
IMO so far every mob has been far easier in 1.0 than modern. Blazes are always a bit of a hassle without fire resistance pots, but they didn't actually hurt *that* bad.
@TheDylandProductions
@TheDylandProductions 11 ай бұрын
@@immabed Part of that is the janky pathfinding. I actually really like the old Creeper behavior, where they can blow up further away (destroying one of the pearl drops) and they sort of "circle around you" when about to explode - which makes them harder to run away from. (you're basically guaranteed to take damage) On modern Minecraft, they stop in place when about to explode - which makes them feel way easier to outrun/escape. Is that nitpicky? Maybe. But I think, with every update's tiny tweaks, some things were buffed and others nerfed. I just prefer the mob coding in the old versions. Now, old combat? That's in play too. While I always preferred it (at the time) pre-1.9, I do think post-1.9 combat (especially with the introduction of shields) is objectively better. I remember watching the first Hermitcraft after the combat change, and everyone became so scared of skeletons - because, due to the changes, they were initially much harder to deal with. :P But sometimes its fun to go spam swinging with a sword, or rapid-fire bowing in the old & beta versions. But its definitely something that was going to be altered later. And, I'm mostly satisfied with how modern combat has settled. Some of the mob behavior could be better though. (I do like that mobs run away from a creeper that's about to explode, though!)

I prefer the original nether, and this video is a perfect demonstration of why. The block textures are a visual eyesore. Although there are but a few enemies around, the ones that do exist pose a huge threat. (don't want an angry horde of Zombie Pigmen after you!) The emptiness leaves a somber feeling, but this somberness/boredom can easily lull you into an unexpected death trap. It is hell. And it feels like it. In the modern nether, there's trees, trading, so many new blocks & items - you could spend eternity there. (stone of Sisyphus much? :P) It feels like like a hell dimension and more like a Minecraft on hard mode - constantly night/cave with the spawn rates, but livable. Going to the nether used to be a chore, and a dangerous one. But now it feels like its own extension of the game. Had Notch stayed with Mojang, I have no doubt he would've implemented similar things too. My love of the early nether is a love for an unfinished, ever evolving part of a game. But there's a magic about the old nether, even now. It's not nostalgia. It's genuinely an unpleasant experience; like it should be. Is the new nether harder? Yes. Is it more full featured? Of course. But it just isn't as fun to me. I keep checking out the newest updates (bits of the cave & cliffs stuff is really neat) but I always find myself going back to pre-1.16. (sometimes even pre-1.13) just for the different experience. The alpha & beta versions are fun too - but a lot more limited. (but those creative limitations can be fun too!) To reiterate what you said episode one - 1.0 sort of exists in that limbo between the old, retro Minecraft (before release, where the game was still evolving) and modern Minecraft. (which is a much more full featured game & with improvements... and some odd inclusions like the mob votes XD) It exists in a place that is both familiar and foreign at the same time. Very surreal - and doubly odd since you and I BOTH played through these versions of the game way back when. Strange how something that was so usual now feels the opposite. There's probably a parallel to be made of the "you can never go home again" idea. But, in a way, it's cool because it's like a brand new experience all the same! Rant over :P

The good thing about recording gameplay is you can "cheat" & scrub back thru the footage if you get lost in caves. :P I don't remember when this was changed, but back in the day all armor gave the same protection - the different ores were durability only. If that's true for 1.0, iron armor is no different from diamond - and it would be better to use the iron on backup suits & save the diamond for tools, enchanting table, etc. Another great episode. Love the casual, laid back video style. Such a relief from modern Minecraft videos. And it feels appropriate for an older, laid back version. Also, @ 11:53, from now on if you see a mushroom under a floating block, you have to punch it - you'll get a one up. XD

I only have 7.5 armour bars, so I think diamond armour is actually better. This is at least after the point where armour durability directly translated into how effective it was.

I believe the end dragon fight was episode 116. ;) Burrowdizzy uploaded his perspective, too. Just search on KZbin. I rarely come back to 1.0 because, like you said in the first video, it feels so weird - like an in-between place between nostalgia and unfamiliarity, compared to the newer versions. Sort of the worst of both worlds between alpha/beta, which still is so expansive, and modern Minecraft, with its improvements (ui & qol tweaks) & the newer additions. (shields, world gen, new mobs, etc) BUT, that's part of what makes 1.0 so unique. It's the earliest version that can be "beaten." So, still very enjoyable to watch. :D BTW, the wood block in the cave system was such a good idea. I usually do the "torches on only one side" or "redstone torch" as breadcrumbs method, but I kind of like the woodblock better! And @ 13:20 that creeper saved your life XD
