Just a small update: The Solar Terms hand moves on a daily basis. It does NOT jump from one solar term to the next.

PF confirm they would change the disc at 12 o’oclock every 12 years. The first change would be free of charge, with a payment each 12 years thereafter. Probably a good time to combine with a movement service, but I imagine that would not be cheap (2-3000 of CHF would be my guess). Thanks for the explanation 🙏

After talking to more people in the recent months, the Chinese leap month system also probably needs to be adjusted with the movement service (well, most likely). As this system is quite complicated, 7 different leap months in a 19 year cycle. There is no supporting documentation so far to support the fact this is all automatically adjusted. Given this is a low production watch, who knows what will be still available in 24 years, if anything is available at all.

Hi, just a question. Could you clarify why is the use for the "flow" checkbox option? Thank you in advance

Flow basically means you are "in the zone". When you are doing certain things you are so concentrated and fully engaged, you forget everything else such as the passing of time, being hungry, or getting tired. It is imperative to discover things that cause flow in your life. Usually, these activities are very meaningful to you and they hint at what your true interests are.

A very competent review and many thanks! Would you compare the two watches "blancpain villeret calendrier chinois traditionnel" and "Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF Xiali Calendar" in a new video?

Thank you for your support and suggestion. I would definitely take a look into the Blancpain. It was released quite some time ago and I don't see a lot of information online. From what I see, the Blancpain doesn't do the 60 year cycle year indicator outright. They separated the two series of characters.

I tried on the Blancpain a couple years ago and the Parmigiani just last week. The Blancpain complication is essentially a complete Chinese calendar, requiring five adjustments each year, in addition to the five for Gregorian calendar date. That's 10 adjustments every year! Not to mention the gargantuan case size and thickness, making it a parody to wear for most Chinese collectors, which I presume are the target customers. Now this Parmigiani piece is a real perpetual calendar in the sense that it understands the length of all months and leap years in Chinese calendar, a whole other technical level . What's even more fascinating is that Parmigiani manages to implement this complication in a 42mm/12mm case (Blancpain 45mm/15mm) and using 365 parts (Blancpain' 464), a true horological masterpiece. It wears easily on my 15mm wrist and I immediately signed up for the waiting list:)

I'm thinking of buying this watch and saw your video. For the indices, I think i would prefer if none of them are rotated. I agree with the word "steel" being a standard computer font, but I also think the font you chose has strokes that are too thick. As for 11 and 12, I'm ok with the original and never thought of the word dirt (I read Chinese). I've actually owned a couple other watches from this brand, but for the Japanese domestic market, so the dial says "Chrono Tokyo" instead. However, I find that ironically, I prefer the Japanese characters "Kurono" more than the English brand name written out explicitly. Thanks for your interesting video and perspective!

Thanks for your comment. This video is a very subject take on the dial design. It's all good fun and since I also can read the Katakana, not having it spelled out is not a pain point for me as well. Enjoy your new watch when you get it. I have heard a lot of good things about this dial, up close in person.

Fun video but I prefer the original, visually more balanced but yes the mix of fonts is high

Thanks for sharing your work. I have one of these watches and although I can't speak or write Japanese or Chinese, I have no trouble telling the time with it. If I could read the text I think it would mess with my head to see the indices upside down. So I can see your point of view. Your changes probably make sense to you, but in my opinion they crowd an already busy dial.

Thank you for your comment! Yes the dial with all the characters there would look very cluttered. Watchmakers from the far east seldom use the characters (kanji etc) on the indices. It is almost too gimmicky. You are very lucky to be a Kurono owner! They are so popular and difficult to get!
