Hey now, you could just as easily have seen that by beating the game three times. I'm a little sad you don't unlock new cards for each character's mix by seeing their memories, even if it's only one or two. I like watching the card pool expand... then again, you probably don't, so.

Apologies if this comment ends up being rambling, but first off, I want to say that this was a great video and I'm saying that as someone whose favorite ttrpg and setting is Exalted (3e/Essence only). I love it for some of the reasons you brought up, that it's just a setting with a lot of cool bullshit, and it's a game where your character is powerful and someone who matters. I also love it a lot as someone who's part Asian American for being a game with a setting that isn't the standard euro stuff, and Exalted 3e is a rare piece of fantasy media that I didn't feel was orientalist or otherwise racist, something I was very pleasantly surprised by. Of course it helps a lot that the setting and most Exalt types are getting/got big rewrites and overhauls. But with that said, I'm sure if I had checked it out back in the 2e days I would've absolutely hated it for a lot of the reasons you mention. Everything I've read and heard from that edition just seemed to be filled with orientalism nearly on par with Kindred of the East and classic White Wolf edge for the sake of being edgy and shocking, with added weird stuff about eugenics and bad mechanics. And my impression of Exalted 2e isn't helped by the fact that its diehard fans tend to be edgelords crying about how the game went woke and soft in my experience. Also "mistaking mentioning taboo things as wielding them well" is an apt summary of a lot of White Wolf stuff.

I was trying to find info about Treasure Mountain today and found your video! Remembering the anxiety I got playing Operation Neptune as a kid is crazy. Treasure Cove occupied so much of my time once. I wonder how they were packaged when my parents bought them, because I remember some but not others in the series.

Love all your thoughts here! I think the only quibble I have is that I think Starstruck's use of hacked 5e actually worked well for their needs...at least in combat. The Battle of the Brands had them firing on all cylinders, and ship maintenance both had the players invested and made for good drama...but even with that, the edges of the system chafed outside of combat, and "the best 5e combat I've seen" is sort of a backhanded compliment now that I'm writing it out. I don't want to undersell how much I enjoyed the positivity (and well-considered critique!) in your discussion of the good seasons, but I really appreciated your thoughts on Junior Year.* That was one of the few seasons I struggled to keep up with, and a lot of what you said resonated with issues I'd struggled to articulate. *Americans _also_ use numbered years, I genuinely have no idea why we also have the super secret code words for freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior years (9-12). (Also 👋from LRRcord. I had had to rewind to make sure I heard you right when you mentioned the Trapp being D20's Beej)

I really resonate with Fox's point that one of the appeals of fantasy as a genre is being able to escape the ever-present cultural miasma of Americana, but also as someone who thinks way too much about D&D (all editions) I have in recent years become extremely cognizant of the fact that even without the Fantasy High style "putting D&D fantasy into a setting dripping with Americana" (which is surprisingly popular: back when Drawfee was still on College Humor their whole "D&D meets Drawfee" campaign was very much D&D fantasy meets modern Americana, and their GM Caldwell Tanner has gone on to create a D&D podcast in that very same style! But I digress) D&D is a deeply American game. Anyway this is turning into an essay and I am very much a proponent of the "This comment you left should have been its own Post" school of thought, so suffice to say I'm really enjoying listening to you two talk about actual plays!

Aw, great to see it! This was one of my favorites of the year too - I loved all the generated comments for things like artifacts triggering, or when they all rooted you on for doing huge damage. Sunshine Heavy Industries is a prior game from the studio which was completely different aside from the art style - you were designing spacefaring objects with a CAD-like interface under constraints like "this is a solar power station, so shield it from the bottom and it can't be too tall". The writing was good there, too.

Oh gosh, it's so rare to find someone else who likes 4th ed. I miss that game so much, I wish I had had a chance to play more of it but my d&d group at the time ran to pathfinder saying it "fixed d&d" and I didn't find many groups for it. And I really dislike 5th ed, that edition is so boring to me.
