Interesting video! I saw this based on word of a friend who knows more about Faith as a franchise than I do, but it was interesting hearing about it's connections to real world events, and the implications that come from that. I especially like your point about the Gun and Faith being interchangeable, and how this ties into some of the ways Faith seems to have an awkward relationship between its message and how it tells it. Like when you say it like that... Yeah, it is kind of strange that they're mechanically the same! Which I imagine interacts with the story in some ways too. While the satanic scare section was interesting, as someone who doesn't know much about that historical event or the plot of the game, I'll admit that I feel a little bit lost in some ways, but I did get your point overall! (The plot of the games kind of confused me in general, so that's a big part of that lol) But yeah, I think it's always useful to consider the value of incorporating real life events into a fictional story. While sometimes there's really salient points to be made about a certain time period, it's also easy for a story to just use something shocking as a way of horrifying the audience. Your video has definitely made me more critical of how Faith presents it's setting. Good video!

It always impresses me how you manage to make your videos so short but always manage to say more than half the video essays I come across in a quarter of the time. Great work as always.

Very good video. The era of the satanic panic interests me a lot, i guess how everyone just got on board with some crazy magical thinking is wild. I'm not quite certain I agree that Faith is a bad story because I'm not certain whether John's actions are ever really portrayed as the right thing? He's fighting children with a gun, torturing his son, and the big boogeyman is named "gary". It feels a lot more like we are in the shoes of someone completely taken over by the satanic panic, and egged on by another radical priest he meets who wants to root out evil. I'm not 100% on this theory either tho, it's definitely something i'll chew on.

Hmmm... the more im reading about the game the more i'm thinking the game does believe in the power of faith. So i think im poking holes in my own argument.
