Alright, you knew I was coming. 0:28 The PRR Class T0.5 was a single experimental 2-4-4 tender locomotive built in 1948 and designed by Laymond Roewy, who should not be confused with Raymond Loewy, the latter actually having at least one working braincell. The "idea" behind this design was to produce a shorter version of the T1 with just a single set of drivers, so that wheelslip would be reduced. Unfortunately, instead of just doing a simple conversion to a conventional 4-8-4 like a normal engineer would, Laymond Roewy literally chopped a T1, No. 5517 specifically, into segments, then carefully fitted only half of them back together so to make a 2-4-4 tender engine. The results, however, worked about as well as you'd expect, which is not at all. For one, Laymond seemed to forget that you can't just bodge everything back together without checking whether they fit, and so as it turned out, the boiler tubes were prone to bursting due to being improperly welded back together. What's more, due to only 2/5 of the axles being driven, the result actually had worse adhesion than a regular T1, and wheelslip was far worse. Eventually, in 1952, while Laymond Roewy was on an engineering trip away from the PRR, the T0.5 was silently scrapped. You could imagine Roewy's reaction when he got back.
