Hello again Frank, looked (studied) till the end. This is great and has given me the courage to start with it. Thanks soooo muchi! Dona (from Belgium) Please look at my question just above as I stil had one question though. Thank! 😊

Hello Phrancko, this video is SO USEFULL! Tnx a lot! I have one question: if I only have one main one-colour design on the front of the sweater, should I set the “beginning of the row” at the beginning of the design approximately middle of the front of the body? Won’t it be to visible middle of the front of the sweater? Or should I better move the starting-point to the side somewhere? Tnx so much for your help! I am making a top-down sweater in the round in one colour with ons huge orange flower in the middle. Kind wooly regards from Dona (from Belgium)
@KnittingbyPhranckoКүн бұрын
I would start the new color at the leading edge of the first round of the flower design and use that edge to change directions all the way down the image, even as that edge moves left and right, as indicated in the video. If you weave the end in carefully, it should not show even though it is on the front. If you added the new color at the side, it would very likely show as a peek-through where you carry it to the place it is first used. I don't see any advantage to doing that. Let me know if I haven't fuly understood your question.

Thanks so much! This is now very clear to me. A new challenge for me. I think I’ll manage it now, watching your video again. Dona

Popped on to watch while I knit on my Phrancko . Fantastic, a new Phrancko Sweater knitter . Congrats Cindy !!! How wonderful . ❤ I think we all have calipers :D
@KnittingbyPhranckoКүн бұрын
Hahaha, I just wrote that they are not that essential, but, yes, they are convenient for measuring your stitch and row gauges.
@NYKnitterКүн бұрын
@@KnittingbyPhrancko YES, we don't really need to know MM sizes down the extent calipers measure. 😆 I was just amazed at how many of us had them or "borrowed" 🤭 them from our partner.
@peaches75515 күн бұрын
What is that gauge thing Ron? Like a caliber ??
@KnittingbyPhranckoКүн бұрын
Yes, it's a caliper. We discussed them in a meeting long ago and several of us went off and bought one. They are not as expensive as you might think and they measure your counted stitches very accurately with a digital readout. However, I don't really think it is necessary to measure quite so accurately. It certainly isn't an essential tool for knitters.
@peaches7551Күн бұрын

I'm glad you found it helpful. Of course everyone has to find what works best for them. There is not "right way" to hold the needles and yarn. This is just how I do it, as you saw.

🥺 Oh no, this is sad, not good at all , did not hear about Suzanne ! Will keep her in my thoughts . ChiaoGoo are my favorite , tips are as long and nearly as sharp as Hiya Hiya , the cables are a favorite of mine . LIke that the line has minis and all the way up to larger needles. I use the ChiaoGoo adaptors and have never ordered any more cables in the L size beyond what came with the set . Lantern Moon are nice smooth polished wood needles if you want something a bit more grip than metal , but not as grippy as bamboo. With them being black , not ideal for dark yarns and word of caution , wood in smaller MM sizes are more prone to break, have never broken one but even ChiaoGoo Forte came out with a second set , the smaller ones made of a different material to combat it happening. I do love their silver no kink cables (Handsome Fibers has them for less than 9$) , 2 cables (same size) in the box , with two wooden end caps and a nice tightening tool. I started tossing the extras in with some of my other interchangeables. Cables fit Knit Picks, Knit Pro and Knitters Pride and since I don't have them , possibly? Lykke, for those who do not care for plastic cables . 🤭I know that is a lot of info but might be helpful to others. My goodness Judith is so talented , and then .......Jenny has some really beautiful pieces , very talented , that parasol is going to be stunning ! So much anticipation , now that Cindy's box arrived. Crossing fingers . LOL 😁 had a few pasta sandwiches as a child , mom's left over pasta and sauce put in one of those popular at the time devices , that sealed it inside two slices of bread and had grill mark cut lines indicated . Being a neighbor to Ontario and Quebec , Poutine has made it here as well.

So, question :-) if a pattern says to use, say, German short rows ....you can change it to say a wrap n turn etc?? Also. Another question ..... say I'm making a sweater and pattern says use size 6 needles for neck and sleeve ribbing and a 7 or 8 needle for body of sweater. To make gauge, I need a 9 or 10 needle for body .....do I still keep and use the patterns size 6 needle for neck and sleeve ribbing ??? Thank you 😊
@KnittingbyPhrancko11 күн бұрын
You can always use whatever type of short row turn works best for you. Just make sure the turn is in the same place. For instance if the pattern says to work a German short row in the next stitch, then that next stitch is the one you wrap for a wrap-and-turn. Likewise, if you knit to a certain stitch and the pattern says to wrap the next stich for a w&t, then you would actually knit that stitch to work the German short row there instead. As for your other question, I think the difference in size should be relative to the size of your main needle. When I write patterns, I say what gauge to match for the main needle, and suggest the size I used but you may need a different size to match the gauge. Then my pattern says, for the neckline and ribbing, use a needle that is 2 sizes smaller.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY 🎂🥳 Wishes for continued Health and Happiness. I am now the body of mine , mindless knitting now as well, while I watch the latest gathering. Oh my, your sweater yoke came out out wonderful . Thanks for the encouragement and can't wait for the video. I am playing it safe for my first of each version of your custom sweaters. Cindy! You must be ecstatic. So happy for you and your continued success. I only use MM sizes , find it more universal when speaking to various knitters around the world, no confusion as far as size # , and that is the way I store them, by Diameter , can use partner"s caliper to measure , but that is a wee bit too accurate , a needle gauge is good enough. Love Ron's sarcasm , find him so funny !! Ron speaks of the "mythical size 7 " crochet hook 4.5 mm , a joke by some crocheters . 🙃 not to be confused with the 7mm that does not exist , and would be some place between K and L hook Adorable watermelon sweater , he is so so creative .

Great progress Phrancko (last minute peek) :) AND happy for Ronnie working out his underarm! I have made it past sleeve separation, did my usual mid-work soak after about 10 rows past , try on to see how everything is hanging, and actually have one sleeve done. Body is on hold Go Cindy , watched to see how close she is getting . Very interesting what Ron is doing with his Phrancko montage of patterns . Good to see everyone this week. Fascinated by what Ron is doing , that is spectacular. I know all about knit resistant partners. I'm not the best at paying attention when I am counting. 😄 Mine has decided to semi -retire and up to now I really counted on those times when work was slow during the work day to get in some time to knit. I now have a new time line when asked , how long did that take you to knit. 😄 Like Ronnie , I am also working on the Yoke sweater , not as far as he has gotten body-wise. I've seen his other sweaters , he is faster than I am . I got past the sleeve separation by enough rows, so picked up one underarm off waste "yarn" yesterday when I knew I would have the house to myself. No dropped stitches , he seemed so frustrated :( I crochet with thin nylon cord , find it easier to single out the yarn loops to pick up. Hope you are able to make it to Iceland , did not realize you also had covid. :(
