Great comparison of all the different variations. I like to do the purl on the public side version, not for how it looks on the back but as a visual cue to myself as I'm knitting to reduce the chances of accidentally knitting the ladder stitch into the main colorwork. I always like tips and techniques like that to let me read my work more and my pattern/chart less.

Thank you so very much for this very concise tutorial. I have looked at others and I did not understand them. I had kind of given up on this method; but this is so clear, you are a great teacher. Thanks again! ❤

Excellent, Frank! This video is full of comprehensive information and I think it's the best video about LBJ. I've once tried and the results weren't so good. I think I could try again and I'm sure this time everything will go better. Thank you and congratulations!

Fantastic...... I've dipped my toes in a bit and tried this technique, and as you said, there are many ways to work it . Loved the bonus content !!! Final thoughts based on what I just learned. It is minor differences as far as knitting and purling. Jenny, (Phrancko zoom meeting member, 2:30pm Pacific Time every Saturday) points out it is easier to spot the stitches that need to be worked when they are purled. They stick out in a sea of knits, BUT require bringing BOTH colors forward . (unsure if there is a right or wrong order for bringing them forward ) Phrancko option, bring the foreground color forward knitting the jacquard stitch , move foreground color back and continue. Bonus content , marking your chart helpful for patterns where colors are not as solid/blocky and you potentially feel you might miss that it is a jacquard stitch and not just a color change. Backside on both are acceptable , just preference . ON EITHER , stitches on backside will redistribute over time , what starts out with - span of yarn /a middle knit or purl / span of yarn- will result in over time , the knit or purl widening . It will become wider over time and more closely match the span of the "floats?" to the right and left. Opinion : twisted stitches will not allow this easing or redistribution of yarn to happen. Thank you once again for showing your examples. I would have been running off to play and see the differences to decide, if you* had not done the work for us already.

I'm glad my video is helping. If you bring both yarns forward, you then just purl the WS color strand without letting the yarns twist around each other. It's only slightly harder than the technique I use. I thought the video was already long enough without showing that technique. Most of the other videos about ladderback jacquard on KZbin show how to do it as it is the more common method. Try it out and you may decide you prefer it...or not.

I never work three colors on the same round, but some patterns do call for it. I don't see any reason the LBJ technique wouldn't work though.
