Do you sell other parts for tivo edge antenna? Need the antenna connection receiver. The part on circuit board that coax connects to.

Normally I wouldn't attempt to repair *any* electronic device, but this one was so simple, and clean and easy to follow, I replaced the fan. I really liked your comment that you replace them all the time, but with a "little bit of work and a little bit of care" you can get it to work." Because of that encouragement, I did take my time with the flexible cover and got it to work fine. So thank you so much! 😊

If I put a used hard drive in do I need to format it before install?
@tac73 Жыл бұрын
This video saved my keister! Playback started skipping ahead at times. So, after 5 years of operation, I thought "maybe" the hard drive was dying? So, this video made it easy to remove the hard drive. And I thought, why not run SpinRite on it? It can't hurt, right? Well, after 30 hours, SpinRite reported the process was complete, with no ecc errors. I reinstalled the drive, and everything is working fine!

I'm a bit puzzled as to why you're not using the esata port that's on the rear of the box? What happens if you plug in an external drive to that port?
@tjernagel Жыл бұрын
Pretty simple mod. Don't understand why you don't run the esata cable out the rear instead of the side. Seems like that would be a cleaner installation. Sure you'd have to work the cable around the fan but there is room...

Will the TiVo bolt automatically increase storage if you put in a larger drive? I did something very similar but not sure if I am getting the full record amount. I put in a 4 TB drive and I see 283 Hrs of HD recording…I think that is only 2 TB worth.

so the tivo edge formats the hdd for you no need to connect the drive to a computer with special software or disc

It might behoove everyone to know that "Special Screwdriver" is called a Game Bit driver and they are available (for now) on The Amazon. They are intended for Nintendo cartridges hence "Game bit" but other companies started using screws with nasty heads on them.

What type of SATA cable are you using exactly? Is it a 22 pin SATA male to eSATA male cable? What about a SATA to usb cable? I’m looking to do this using a separate hard drive enclosure. Would this same cable work for all enclosures with eSATA ports? I’ve looked online and there aren’t many enclosures with eSATA ports, only usb. I would like advice on the SATA cable and enclosure to use. Also, can I buy the case piece with the hole in it separately? Thanks.

What's the largest HD the Edge can format? I see you have a 10TB. But what about larger, have you tested anything more?
@davidherter70342 жыл бұрын
Wow, also. This is exactly what happened to me. During a playback Roamio just stopped. It tried to start again and got hung in a loop saying Almost There. Then stopped completely and the lights started flashing. My first thought was hard drive failure. Boy was I pee'd. 81% full HD. Gone. Called Support. Took 20 mins for someone to answer. Sounded like a party going on in the background. Finally, after a long wait, I was told that the Roamio had a "technical difficulty". I asked if that meant the HD crashed. Could be one of the problems. But I could get a new Edge for a big discount which I had already been offered via email. Long story shorter, I ordered a new unit from Amazon, received it today just to discover it was not an OTA unit. Returning it. Went back online and found Weaknees. More than likely a HD failure. Decided to check KZbin for the flashing lights. Found this post. Found a 12v. 2amp power supply. Plugged it all in and...voila. As though risen from the dead. It was back. All my programming still there. Amazing. Thank you so much.

I don't see the value of installing an external hard drive with all that extra equipment outside the unit when it would be much cleaner and simpler to just replace the internal hard drive.
@weakneessupport802 жыл бұрын
The Edge's internal drive is a 2.5" laptop-sized drive. These drives are small and their capacity is limited. The larger-capacity, 2.5" hard drives also use a technology called SMR, which does not seem to perform as well over time in DVRs, leading to high failure rates. On the other hand, our external drives are 3.5" desktop sized drives made for DVRs. In our experience, they are more robust and more reliable and are definitely worth it. That's precisely why we developed a kit for the Bolt and Edge to enable them to use external storage.
@rkgsd2 жыл бұрын
Why not just install a larger capacity 2.5" drive inside the Edge?
@weakneessupport802 жыл бұрын
Very, very few drives work inside the Edge (or the Bolt) and the large-capacity drives are prone to failure due to the 24/7/365 reading/writing. We use external drives because they are far more reliable.

If you replace the HDD, does the device automatically format it? Or is there a special file that needs to be downloaded and installed on the HDD before installation.
@rkgsd2 жыл бұрын
It will format the new drive automatically but you will lose the shows unless you clone the drive from the old to the new using something like Wavlink.

This is great stuff! I am a life long TIVO user going back to the old "boxy" Series 2 units. I have a Roamio PRO for Cable but finally cut the cord when Spectrum went to over $200 last month!!. I have a Roamio OTA with 4 tuners but it just has 500 GB storage. I ordered the NEWEST Edge from Tivo and am very frustrated with the 2 tuner arrangement. Already bumping into issues with my wife doing one thing from one TV and me trying something else on another TV. Also, can't get video transfers to work from my Roamio Pro to the new Edge. Tivo is "working" on this but hasn't got a fix yet. So today, I just received an EDGE purchased from you folks with the 4 tuner 2TB storage. For OTA this will be great. Will get it set up and see if I can transfer to this EDGE. So glad I found you guys and am a fan.

Had this problem with my bolt +. Purchased a new 2TB disk from you as it was told to me by your staff that the 3TB disks were prone to failure. I was able to install the disk purchased from you with out incident. Your install video was a great help. I have to be honest though and say that the markup on the Seagate hard drive from your company was a bit much. I needed this repair quickly so I purchased from you. The cost of the disk from you was double what I could have purchased it for through another non TiVO specific vendor. I appreciate what you do for the TiVO community as since moving to Mexico, TiVo support sucks. Is it really necessary to charge so much of a markup on the disks though. A question, what is the warranty on the disk purchased through you? At times a higher price is paid for disks with a longer warranty. How long is the warranty on Seagate disks purchased through you? I know that when purchasing disks through another vendor, such as Dell, or HP the reseller warranty is different. I do support your company and will continue to do business. My Mother is extremely happy having her TiVo working which was the point. It was nice you included the security drivers needed to open the bolt. Not the highest quality in tools, but good enough to do the job. I appreciated that consideration. Those drivers while I already had the security drivers will remain in my electronics kit. I guess I’m saying thank you for the service,but just wanted to express a bit of dissatisfaction in the markup on the disk. Your videos are excellent and again, your efforts to support the community are appreciated. I too have a TiVo bolt which I suspect will die at some point. Can you tell me if I purchase an external solution, can I still use mfstools to transfer recordings from my internal 3TB disk to an external 3 1/2 disk of a much larger capacity?

I've deduced that: 1st my original hd went bad. Put the new 2T one in. Then original 12v - 2a power supply couldn't handle it. Either that or power supply went 1st, and I didn't need the new hd. Oh well -- will hold 4x the shows.
@TomErsin3 жыл бұрын
Unbelievable. Something goes right. Roamio quit last night, in middle of viewing -- went to startup, but never started up. After research, bought a 2T hd. Then I get "the Lights." Saw this video and thread. Went through my large box of old wall warts -- found a couple 12v - 1a. No go. Almost ordered one, then I remembered, my old external hd I don't use anymore. Power supply was 12v - 3a. It was a miracle. Cannot say enough about the good deeds done by you fellow commenters.

I have a Tivo Bolt+ with a failed 3TB hard drive. Looking to install your 6TB hard drive. couple questions: 1. how much data is actually on the 3TB hard drive? only the recorded shows? 2. after installing the external hard drive, how much set up is there once turned on? (I also use a Tivo mini on another TV) 3. the capacity bar that shows how much recording space is used/remaining, will that be accurate will double the size hard drive? Just thinking that if the capacity bar is built into the tivo to measure 3TB, then it may show full when the 6TB reaches 3TB. Thanks
@weakneessupport803 жыл бұрын
Everything is on our external drives. There is no internal. If you get an external drive kit, it will boot to guided setup, just as it did when you first bought the Bolt. Yes, the capacity bar will be accurate. It will show 50% when the 6TB is half full.
