This is great stuff! I am a life long TIVO user going back to the old "boxy" Series 2 units. I have a Roamio PRO for Cable but finally cut the cord when Spectrum went to over $200 last month!!. I have a Roamio OTA with 4 tuners but it just has 500 GB storage. I ordered the NEWEST Edge from Tivo and am very frustrated with the 2 tuner arrangement. Already bumping into issues with my wife doing one thing from one TV and me trying something else on another TV. Also, can't get video transfers to work from my Roamio Pro to the new Edge. Tivo is "working" on this but hasn't got a fix yet. So today, I just received an EDGE purchased from you folks with the 4 tuner 2TB storage. For OTA this will be great. Will get it set up and see if I can transfer to this EDGE. So glad I found you guys and am a fan.

I just followed this video and installed a WeaKnees external 6 TB hard drive outside my TiVo EDGE. Could not have been easier. The metal outer case above the internal hard drive was a bit difficult to pull off after removing the screws, but not too big a deal. Excellent instructions, excellent equipment, problem solved!

It might behoove everyone to know that "Special Screwdriver" is called a Game Bit driver and they are available (for now) on The Amazon. They are intended for Nintendo cartridges hence "Game bit" but other companies started using screws with nasty heads on them.

Hello.. I did not see where you covered how the TIVO software gets put on the drive.. or does it come with the TIvo OS pre-installed?

The Bolt would format the drive and install the software itself. I think its the same here. But to keep recordings, you should clone/migrate the drive. EDIT: Their kit is preonstalled, stated on their site.

@richarda36592 жыл бұрын
Nobody knows about "the" rebooting issue you're having. TiVo devices don't reboot constantly. Maybe yours needs service.
@Mlo992 жыл бұрын
@@richarda3659 it actually did fix the issue. I discussed with TiVo support and they said it sounded like a hard drive issue and they were willing to replace mine with a new one with only $200 off. I said no thanks. So apparently someone knew about it.

Why not just install a larger capacity 2.5" drive inside the Edge?
@weakneessupport802 жыл бұрын
Very, very few drives work inside the Edge (or the Bolt) and the large-capacity drives are prone to failure due to the 24/7/365 reading/writing. We use external drives because they are far more reliable.

Quick Question? By upgrading the HD in my TIVO EDGE OTA, all the Software information is still stored internally on the machine and NOT the original HD that came with my unit? Is that correct. And the TIVO EDGE OTA will format and setup the new drive once I replace the old drive? Appreciate your reply. Thanks
@rkgsd2 жыл бұрын
As with other generations of the Tivo, you can replace the drive. It's just that some hard drive models work better than others when it comes to skipping over bad hard drive sectors. For that reason, Western Digital makes A/V drives which Tivo has used in various models.
@lakrfan49802 жыл бұрын
I don't see the value of installing an external hard drive with all that extra equipment outside the unit when it would be much cleaner and simpler to just replace the internal hard drive.
@weakneessupport802 жыл бұрын
The Edge's internal drive is a 2.5" laptop-sized drive. These drives are small and their capacity is limited. The larger-capacity, 2.5" hard drives also use a technology called SMR, which does not seem to perform as well over time in DVRs, leading to high failure rates. On the other hand, our external drives are 3.5" desktop sized drives made for DVRs. In our experience, they are more robust and more reliable and are definitely worth it. That's precisely why we developed a kit for the Bolt and Edge to enable them to use external storage.

Why wouldn't you use an actual eSATA edge connector instead of a hack job with a cable like that? Here's a link to a panel mount eSATA port. www.startech.com/Cables/Drive/SATA/~ESATAPNLFM1
@weakneessupport804 жыл бұрын
We are aware of eSATA panel mount cable options, as well as the various other cables that are commercially available. We would not custom-engineer a cable if there were an option that were commercially available. There are many reasons why the cable you link to would not work. Once you open your TiVo Edge, you'll see what we mean.
