@@mikeh8060 Cheers Mike, I'm glad you found it useful! As you can see in my video, the pitch is pretty good with minimal changes to the Lanshan! Put some 3mm bungees on the inner tie out points, and pull them out to the pegs, it makes a huge difference to reduce the interior sag! Also, use some longer pegs to get a better bite in the ground, for maximum fly tension! 👍

Check out the Caldera cone. I think someone is making a similar thing in the UK like the Stormin Norman stove. I did a couple diy ones out of aluminum flashing for roofs. Weighs almost nothing, and mine rolls up to fit in my Trangia 27 pot. I use the pot and grabber from the set with the cone. Holds it well, hard to tip, and makes it more efficient. There is a web page someone had for a script to help print out a template based on your pot size. Trail Designs sells aluminum or titanium cones (titanium for alcohol and wood twig fires) that are very nice.

@@littlegrandadoutdoorsPitched it this evening, looks good! Plenty of space inside, and I reckon it will make a great 3/4 season shelter, it pretty much pins to the ground like the Abiscoe! I've tied the inner bungees to the fly so it pitches in one, rather than having to pull them out to the fly pegs. The main pole guylines are a little on the short side, but the inner tension band system really seems to lock that pole down, so I'm optimistic it should handle the wind quite well? Maybe that's why the guys are on the short side? I can't say I'm overly impressed with the inner doors, and the zips feel a little delicate. I think my mate's Abiscoe door system spoilt me! 😂 Over all it looks like a nice bikepacking shelter... it's 1.42kg on my scales, and a pack length of just 30cm x 14cm. There's plenty of space, will make a great 1p shelter for extended rides/hikes! Can't really complain for 239 quid! It is easy to criticise the material and build quality against the Abiscoe, but that's over double the price, is it 'double' the shelter? I know one thing, there's way more space in the Helium, but then the Abiscoe is a true 1p shelter, and this is a 2! I hate to say it, but the materials and the construction aren't as good as my 3F Lanshan! 😑

i have the mini. at first i was rather suspicious making soup out of filtered pond water, but now on certain tours i use it a lot. it just makes it so you don't necessarily have to go out of your way at the end of a long day in the saddle to find running water, you may use the obviously unhealthy water source out of sheer convenience or even be lazy. it's almost like a superpower of some sort. just be sure to backwash and sanitize the filter before any long term storage when not using the device. sanitizing the pouch and filter can be done after back-washing the filter. they recommend using a weak bleach solution; one capful of bleach per litre of water. slosh the weak bleach solution around in your pouch and run it through the filter. after sanitizing, let the filter and pouch air dry before storing in a cool/dry location away from direct sun exposure.

@@mokotramp Will do. It can't be any worse than my recent experience with Stans sealant and 1.5-inch Gravel King tyres. After running butyl tubes on new tyres for 3-4 months, I tried setting them up tubeless. I was aghast to find 4 pretty small holes in one tyre and 2 or 3 in the other. None of them sealed themselves. I tried lowering the pressure and rotating the wheel to allowing the sealant to pool around the hole. No joy! I also tried plugs -- 2 worked the rest still leaked. Sad to say, the entire thing was far from magical! I've pulled the tyres and patched them ON THE INSIDE, for a permanent fix. Goodness knows how I managed to pick up so many punctures in so short a time. Or what would have happened if I'd been running tubeless with the Stans sealant, which a lot of folks say works for them. The upside is that I was running butyl tubes, which didn't seem to notice the damage. I'll try OKO and see if it makes any difference. I just ride the road -- no rough or flinty gravel -- so I'm still stunned at how hard a life my tyres seem to be living. Cheers

That brings me to internal rim diameter! My main wheels are 22 and 25mm internal. Too many people running wider tyres to narrow rims. @mokotramp
@mokotramp 6 ай бұрын
@@phil_d It will work the same as most other tyre sealants. What's important here is getting the viscosity correct, in order for it to flow around the tyre well, but also not diluting it to the point where it's ineffective! In my experience with many sealants, they ALL struggle with largish holes unless you stop and bring the tyre to 6 o'clock to allow for adequate plugging. So here the 'dynamic loads' are completely irrelevant! But I get where you're coming from! ✌️ I'm riding with this sealant both on and off road, so far no issues.

Silca was crap, IMO. Way too thin and dries incredibly quickly; it might be OK for Dylan's race day, but in everyday use it let me down more than once. OKO make milKit I believe. I use the Off Road OKO at work, however the tractor tyres only run c.30psi. So does OKO work for 70psi road tyres? I have a Slate and took it to Scotland a couple of weeks ago with G-One Allround. Got a small hole through one of the nobbles, and for a day the milKit held it. The next day on the road it let go so I had to stick in a Dynaplug which didn't altogether seal. What I like about milKit (and OKO) is that it's synthetic latex and therefore doesn't dry out and leave the inside of the tyre covered in latex. So, with a gravel size tyre you can pop off the bead, wipe the inside and slap on a patch. However, I am currently running 42mm Gravelking Slicks with tubes. On the canal tow path today the tyres/tubes held up perfectly. There's always the hope sealant works for you, but when it doesn't out on a ride, it's generally a messy affair, whatever you do to fix a hole. Tubeless bike tyres lack any real forethought and design. If you look at car tyres, you don't run sealant - yes I know it's a completely different type of tyre. A Tubeless rim strip from Mavic or Bontrager allows a perfectly airtight seal without sealant for days on end. I wonder if you could deal with a hole from the outside instead of using sealant? Something like Loctite 480 might work if you had a thin enough blunt needle to inject into the hole. Stans tyre dart seems a good idea, but it looks as though very little gets inside the but you really need a mushroom shape to pin inside...... Sorry, I've waffled!!
@mokotramp
@mokotramp 6 ай бұрын
@@phil_d Silca has worked well for me, but you're right in what you say about drying out! Joe's and Stan's also work ok, but they're all messy, OKO on the other hand isn't messy! With regard to the psi rating of OKO, they quoted 145psi. The highest pressure I run on a 25mm road tyre is 65psi. I think most tyre sealants struggle for road bike tyres, I'm not really a fan if I'm honest. My last bike packing trip through Wales, I was running Teravail Rutland durable 47s. I picked up a split from some slate, about 7mm long. I was using Vittoria with fairy dust in, I had to stop in order for it to seal. I lost all the pressure, but thankfully not the sealant, probably due to only running 24psi. Again, tyre pressures are crucial for effective sealing, too little and it can struggle, the same for high pressures! I'm going away again in September to ride the Sarn Helen. This time a beefier tyre, Hutchinson Tundra Hardskin 45s. Too many people over rely on sealant, tougher tyres are also needed off road. It's a sacrifice in comfort, but the alternative is far worse! 😁
@phil_d
@phil_d 6 ай бұрын
@mokotramp I am intrigued, to be honest. I've just started out on my gravel journey and the bike came with Cannondale/Panaracer slicks tucked away in a bag. Sure, grip in the wet will be rubbish, but I have no cuts or slashes from the tow path and a couple of weeks of commuting; I wonder whether that's down to the width, larger contact patch and less pressure. I was expecting at least one puncture this morning I will dispense some OKO at work and see how it feels between my fingers; always a good test!
@mokotramp
@mokotramp 6 ай бұрын
@@phil_dI think you're spot on about the lack of punctures and running lower pressures! If you look at the dynamics, running lower pressures allows for better deformation of the tyre over objects, and less chance of penetration! As a back up when riding, I always carry a spare tube, some sealant, a dart kit and a tyre boot. When bike packing, I'll carry a spare tyre too! I think the key is using tyres that are tough enough, without sacrificing comfort, grip and speed, that's a big ask!

I also use it on the road on 32 Spesh Roubaix Pro 2bliss, it's no slouch! It's a nice bike to ride on and off road! ✌️

Same. I have a Swiss Cross (which I adore), and am thinking about an Outback for bikepacking and general shenanigans. I'm thinking the Outback is a bit tougher than the Swiss Cross. This is a great video. Thanks @mokotramp.

@@chrisbarany Cheers Chris! Yeah, I think you'll be more than happy with it! I'm currently running mine with 25mm Schwalbe Pro One's, on my carbon 42s. It's such a nice road bike too, I'd say this is as close to a quiver killer as it gets! ✌️

Nice test, how many miles have you been able to put on these tires before a puncture?

Around 1500km, 1 puncture which sealed pretty quickly!

@@csarswatches There's nothing weak about this tyre imo, but your expectations have to be realistic. It's never going to be as durable, or last as long as a Pro One or a GP5000, but it's a supremely comfortable, fast grippy tyre! ✌️

@@tchauish Yes I totally agree, there really seems to be some quality control issues, the tyre appears slightly too big for the rim. I've since taken mine off and attempted to put them on a different pair of wheels. Again, so difficult to put on I've given up! My tyres are now on eBay!

The only thing I don’t like about all these bikes is they always mount the bottle bosses too high on the seat tube. Should be as low as possible for centre of gravity and also fitting in bike bags.
@mokotramp
@mokotramp 8 ай бұрын
You're absolutely right! Side entry and Fidlock type holders can help, but if you're running a large frame bag, extracting the bottle from the holder can be an issue. It's pretty much the same with the bottom tube! I've mounted a Fidlock bottle holder on the top tube of my Titus, that works quite well! ✌️

@@mokotramp glad you agree! I just don’t understand why they design it like that it makes no sense lol. It’s a nice bike though I have been obsessing with the idea of getting one. Is yours a gloss or Matt finish?
@mokotramp
@mokotramp 8 ай бұрын
@@KOL630 It's matt. The video doesn't do it any justice, it's a cracking colour in the flesh. It may look glossy in places due to the heli tape. It rides very nicely, those extra long chain stays make it pretty stable at speed off road. Certainly no slouch on the road, too! I'm pretty sure you'll love it, steel feels so good off road! ✌️

The current production Viz 450 changed (downgraded) the group mode intensity to just 20 lumens, using ONLY two out of the 5 leds (the top one and the one at the bottom) WTF, @Cateye?
@mokotramp
@mokotramp 8 ай бұрын
That's ridiculous, thanks for the update! 👍 I still say the Solas 250 is the best option, it's the one I reach for in very bright conditions. The Viz family doesn't concentrate its beam as much, so appears less intense! ✌️
