I just bought the same plow. I’m using it now and hit a rock and it tripped for the first time since I’ve used it. Your video was very helpful. It taught me how it works and how to fix it. What did the old farmers do without KZbin or Google. 🤣 Thanks again for the great video.

Great video! Thanks for sharing. One safety trip on the forward most bottom of my 3-bottoms e-8450 plow is not staying engaged and immediately trips back when moving forward again after hitting a big rock in my field. On quick inspection, nothing looks bent or broken or different than the other bottoms. What would you suggest I look at next? Thanks!!!

Thanks for the video! I have only recently started participating in some of the local plow days in my area. I am in the process of purchasing my first mechanical trip plow which is a Deere 55 plow (not sure on exact details of it yet), but it is a clutch trip. I was very hesitant on getting a trip clutch plow and/or converting one to hydraulic since my red tractors do have hydraulic capability. But thanks to your video, I now feel completely comfortable keeping and maintaining the original clutch system on it. I was completely oblivious on how simple these trip clutch/cams really are. Thanks again for the amount of info in this video, and for taking away the "mystery" on how the trips really work on these plows.

when you're done plowing, PAINT the moldboards with primer then cheap rattle can metal paint. keeps them from rusting away. mine sit outside all year and next time i use them, after the paint wears off, they look brand new.

How does a guy identify the plow model number on a set of these old plows? I have a set of 3-14 JD plows very similar to yours, would like to get a positive ID on them?

Thanks for your clips on these old plows. With your info I was able to disassemble and reassemble a #44 and turns out (yes-pun intended) it works. I'll be looking for more info on how to get axle shims and the clutch kit and other miscellaneous unicorns. Field day is today so wish us luck.

So I picked up an old JD 4 bottom 3 point plow with no coulters. how will this turn sod over without coulters ? I was considering buying some 1 1/2 in rod and mounting them in the old clamps and sharpening the edge just to score the sod first , crazy ?
@tylertheplowguy86902 жыл бұрын
It may work but will likely not be nearly as good as a rolling coulter.
@ExploringCabinsandMines2 жыл бұрын
@@tylertheplowguy8690 Agreed but the cost of 4 used coulters is more than I paid for the plow. without them will the plow blades rip the sod and leave a jagged mess ?
@Scott2510A Жыл бұрын
Without coulters, your plow will likely clog up often and terribly. The 1 1/2 in rod idea in the old clamps will most likely break all of the old clamps and will clog up. Try finding used coulters at junk yards in your area or put an ad in the wanted adds. Until you find coulters, disk the area you want to plow first or rotary mow and disk to chop up plant vines. I plowed 10 acres the other year. Started with notched coulters on the plow. The notched coulters kept getting wrapped up with vines. I could only go about 100 yards and the plow was clogged up terribly. Subsequently, I rotary mowed the entire field and changed the coulter blades to the plane round type and adjusted the coulters per the book. Went back to the field and no more problems with clogging. The plane round type coulters cut the vines like a hot knife through butter. Plowed 10 acres with the JD 620 in 3rd gear and F145 3-16's. @@ExploringCabinsandMines

I think the cast case on my 44 clutch was damaged by ice. The gasket mating surface has gaps and appears that it has been bent. Is this common? Can a replacement case.be found?
@jeffgantt59752 жыл бұрын
Like your videos, I found a 416-14" that had been in the fence row for over 30 years last summer, plow is in excellent shape for S.Ga and never been inside. New set of shares from JD parts and put it to work. The trips not even rusted up and the moldboards still have the little metal tags on them.
