Good that HM1 called for foam; they don't use it nearly enough in NYC. Also, this is a case where aerial ladder pipes would be much more effective than towers. They have more reach and put out more water.

91,000 subway car hitting a body, zero chance of survival. Prayers to the loveones, and to the F.D.N.Y for the trauma dealing with this situation. This is becoming a normal accurance these day. A motorman expierencing what known as a 12-9, can be in some cases, career ending.

Who built the body, Skyler? The code is just GM19020 since it's a 2019 Chevy.

I can certainly understand San Francisco & LA having large fireboats & high-volume pumper systems being in seismic zones. Large quakes could cause large fires & rupture water mains requiring alternative means of supplying water. NYC, however is not in or near a seismically active area. The harbor does much less freight or industrial business as compared to decades ago so there isn't much call for large fireboats. But, just like London's Grenfell Tower fire in 2017 led to some agencies acquiring extra tall aerials (Toronto now has a 230' tower), NYC felt it needed these systems after the WTC incident. I know the two 140' fireboats priced out at $27 million each. I couldn't find any pricing for the Ferrara pumper but I'm estimating $2.5 million for the apparatus plus additional costs for supplies, training, & special maintenance. The total cost for this little venture may be in the range of $80-100 million total between the "super" boats & "super" pumper system, which are designed to work independently or in combination. Hope they're never truly needed.

They don’t carry c02 extinguishers?
@dbyers3897
@dbyers3897 3 күн бұрын
NFPA 1901 requires that fire apparatus be equipped with a minimum of one approved dry-chemical portable fire extinguisher with a minimum of 80-B:C rating and one 2.5-gallon (9.5-liter) or larger pressurized water extinguisher. Engine companies often carry additional numbers & types of extinguishers including CO2 & Purple-K.

I appreciate the incredible job FDNY does on a working job but at the same time I would hate to be the investigating fire marshal responsible for determining cause after everything has been torn apart and disassembled and torn to pieces???
@davidbott9401
@davidbott9401 11 сағат бұрын
That's the unfortunate part. You want to try to preserve as much as possible, but you also need to take apart everything to be certain that the fire is completely extinguished
