That seemed a little clumsy, but all’s well that ends well, I suppose. The North Shore lifeguards (water patrol) are incredible. They have saved countless lives in the great tradition, and in tribute to Eddie Aikau.

Used to swim Waimea with my buddy every Tuesday and Thursday during lunch from the Jump Rock to the other side and back. If it was a litlle big we would start at the other side. One day I knew a swell was coming (I'm a surfer, my budy wasn't) and when we got there I could tell it was coming up. I tried to talk my buddy out of it but he'd been swiming it for years and thought it would be ok. While we were out there (no more than 15-20 minutes) you could feel the swell lifting you up and down what seemed like 10', slowly. By the time we got back the lifeguards had put the warnings up and were rescuing a body surfer by the jump rock who hurt is back.

Gotta paddle into the wave first then stand up. He stopped way too soon and paid the price. You younger surfers should understand that super light weight boards with more than one fin can hang you in the lip on windy days.

Good lord can you not swim? Do you not respect the ocean? Or do you put yourself in dangerous situations thinking people can save you if you fuck up? Hello? I say this because if your not a big wave surfer you shouldn’t be out in those waves. All us locals should know their limits and should respect the ocean. The is joke is that only tourists get saved by lifeguards because their stupid and think the ocean can’t kill them, haoles

This video is really good on mute. No sound. As for the wipeout, this is how not to surf. Common problem is, to get held up in the lip. He did catch the wave. I see the wave is pushing him. Then there's a point where he loses the wave, bc he slows down. This is when you need that one extra paddle. You must project yourself down the face quickly, full commitment, it requires full commitment which he has, I can see he is committed, but I'd argue there was a moment of hesitation. Once projecting downward, then you must bottom turn successfully, after you make the drop of course. Each step is important in itself. This was the classic case where you get held up in the lip so technically he never caught the wave. I thought he was going to simply miss the wave. Somehow he does manage to go over the falls.
