One year I was sitting in the shed and I heard little legs scratching around on the tin from outside and I thought "that's gotta be a blue tongue" and sure enough it was a baby blotchy 😅

It would be nice to know how you keep this skink so active What temperature and humidity It could help monkey tail skink keepers to improve the keep As I don't think Solomon islands will ever export again. We need to breed successfully we'd love to have a care list so that we could be like you. Very good job. Thanks for your help greatly needed.

Thanks, never saw the ceramic bases with leads before. I ended up doing mine a different way because my cages do not have enough flat ceiling space to mount a 4-inch base where I wanted to - I used ceramic lamp bases commonly used in household ceiling lamps and that have a 3/8 threaded mount for a standard 3/8" diameter nipple and have wire leads. A single 3/8 inch hole in the cage ceiling holds the socket and allows the wires to exit the top unexposed inside the cage (get the sockets that have the wire connections covered.) Then I use some aluminum reflective tape to make the ceiling area around the socket reflective to heat. I was able to install this type of setup in Vision cages where the ceiling is not flat or has obstacles (the Vision 111 cage for example.) With lamp parts, it is best to keep to 50W or less. Requires 3/8 nipples, washers and nuts, all available online or in big box stores. (Very clean, single-hole setup that is easily removed if desired. If removed, the hole can be left as is or plugged with some epoxy putty, or lese leave the threaded nipple installed and use it to pass a temperature probe into the cage interior.)

Hi JL. I'm trying really really hard right now to keep my monkey tail family. I'm spending my last dollars to try to upgrade their enclosure. If I can't figure that out in the next week or two I might still have to rehome them, but I really don't want to. We'll see how it goes :)
@jltuttle16672 жыл бұрын
@@melsexotics it can be so heart-breaking. Your animals are beautiful. I kept a corucia years ago and have been considering adding one as a teaching animal. I take to venues and schools as a hobby. A local pet store has a juvenile and in considering if I want to get it I'm cruising youtube for anything I can find. Here is my info: zoocrewkids.blogspot.com/
@melsexotics2 жыл бұрын
I will warn you that almost everyone who gets one corucia ends up getting multiple. I find them excellent ambassador animals once they've settled and trust their handler, but you can't hand them off to people like with many other species, because the nails alone are enough to cut people. That said in my experience they love interacting with people (especially if those people have food), but I know not everyone has that experience with them, some are just downright aggressive I'm told. I'm currently trying to design an ideal enclosure upgrade for my family unit of corucia. I've learnt a lot over the past year with them and think I can design something that they'll really like.
@jltuttle16672 жыл бұрын
How do you introduce them to another. I'm considering getting one but understand they do better in groups..... what steps do you go through?
@melsexotics2 жыл бұрын
I have never introduced MTS, I bought my current "family unit" of skinks already living together, possibly imported together, I'm not sure. I do absolutely recommend these animals have the opportunity to live with other MTS, and most people who get one quickly end up getting more to try to cohab them. They really do best with a compatible family group.
@jltuttle16672 жыл бұрын
@@melsexotics I checked another source just now that have zoo bred yearlings available. They have informed me that one of the animals has already been an ambassador and is pretty stable temperamentally. Hopefully can make a good decision on this
@melsexotics2 жыл бұрын
A CBB young animals that's already used to human contact would probably be ideal for an ambassador animal.

Hey, I caught Covid in August this year. It is hell and a living nightmare. What symptoms have you been experiencing.
@melsexotics2 жыл бұрын
Hiya! Thankfully I've had "mild" symptoms, but it was several days of fever, lots of brain fog and body aches, appetite issues (and loss of taste), etc. Only a bit of a cough thankfully, and no really bad symptoms. I'm improving every day, but I didn't expect it to mess with me so much. Thankfully I have lots of people around me helping me keep things going while I'm incapped. Can I ask how long until you felt "normal" again, if you do?
@mapleacer99252 жыл бұрын
@@melsexotics hey I've had approx 14 symptoms through this. I don't feel better to live my life, I have terrible tiredness, my legs hurt as my muscles are solid and tight, I can't walk far without getting tired, shortness of breath and battling to get my voice back after I lost it due to a throat infection last month. I used to be able to do a 12 hour day and still run for the bus after work. This is a devastating virus that I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy.
@melsexotics2 жыл бұрын
That sounds absolutely awful. I feel very lucky that I seem to have skipped most of the "bad" symptoms, but I still feel so "diminished" right now. My mom is still recovering, now fighting a throat infection herself. My great aunt is hospitalized. This illness is insane, I also would not wish it on anybody. I hope both of our symptoms ease up soon. Best of luck to you, friend!
