Building an Outdoor Lizard Enclosure - The skink pits get an upgrade

Hello friends,
In 2020 I built some outdoor lizard pits so my critters could have time outside in the sun. The original pits were open-top, so the skinks had to be closely supervised; in 2021 I wanted to upgrade them to be more secure. My brother John came over to help, and together we added a wood lip around the edge of each pit so the skinks couldn't escape.
This wasn't the finish line for these enclosures, there's still more to do, so be sure to subscribe if you want to see what updates we make in 2022.

I *think* it was this video you mentioned you get wood from somewhere... Do you have a cleaning routine that you have to follow before they're skink safe? I know Rikki suggested something to me years ago for making driftwood sanitized for our crestie and our ball Python but it's been so long I can't remember 😅 Thanks in advance!

Oh, you mean the driftwood inside the enclosures? We get most of it from the Brokenhead River during low-tide. Then we pressure-wash it to remove most of the dirt, and then let it bake in the sun for a while. If you need it more sanitized you can bake wood for a few hours (never bake rocks), but unless you have amphibians I find just washing and letting it dry out works great.
