So sorry to hear of your wife pal, I really wish you all the good luck in the future. As you know I have a custom painting business in wales uk and some what know how hard it is to run this type of business. My wife does all the books and finances so it’s more than enough running the shop. 👍

Hey mate , can I ask what the difference is between base clear and not “regular clear”? I’m from Australia struggling to find it online , cheers
@TAZattitude14 күн бұрын
base clear (also known as 'interclear') acts just like a basecoat. It works great to use to add flakes and to seal in some artwork. It dries quickly. Whereas topcoat clear (regular clear) requires a catalyst and used as a final clear. On Amazon SG-100 amzn.to/3UMkI7Z

Hey question for you sir. I painted my panhead chopper tangerine orange anf it turned out pretty sweet for a self taught 2 yr rookie i think. I have a problem a month after painting it. Gas fumes got under my paint. Bike sat in the sun at work for 6 hrs. I got off work and my coffin tank top three sections where like a hot air balloon!! Is there a way to salvage paint once it lifts or do i gotta accept i gotta sand down and do it all over again?
@TAZattitude19 күн бұрын
I assume that since the fuel got 'under' the paint, all the bubbles are on the edge of the paint at the fuel bung area? Or are they in other areas?
@rustygood633619 күн бұрын
They spread in about 8” diameter. 70s swedish or step ladder style frame so tank angles up sharply.
@TAZattitude18 күн бұрын
Most likely have to strip the tank and start over.

I’m not a painter or detailer but after 3 tries I finally got a beautiful paint job with clear coat and wet sanded everything now all I need to do is buff it out but I’m afraid I’ll mess it up, I have an air operated buffer from a friend of mine that used to do this type of work, how much pressure do you use ? I’ve watched a lot of videos but still nervous
@TAZattitude22 күн бұрын
To start off with, try a larger flatter surface and just use the weight of the buffer (assuming it's a professional type buffer with a 8" pad). You want to start with an easier panel so you can get used to it. Or practice on your car. Just watch the edges. Always run the pad 'off' the edge and not onto it. Good luck

I have a question, is there a possibility to blend a solid color into a metallic? I want to do a solid white blended into a metallic pink
@TAZattitude28 күн бұрын
+*/Sure, you can spray the solid color, then the metallic pink and get your blend looking good. Once you do this , you'll need to do a light coat back over the solid color to 'kill' the metallics that got onto the solid color

I am painting my aluminum boat and I’m trying to put metal flake and of course polyurethane. What brands and types would you recommend?
@TAZattitude25 күн бұрын
That is a LOT of work to do on a boat. You can use any flake you'd like. The smaller the size of the flake, the easier it is to work with. I normally use House of Kolor flakes, but have also used others.

I’m giving very serious consideration to trying this on a couple of toolboxes in my shop. But with a dark emerald green and maybe a metal flake black.

I see people bondo there tank even when there's no dents? Why? Do you have to to get a good finish?
@TAZattitudeАй бұрын
The only reason I can think of is that possibly it got sandblasted or stripped and it got warped. OR, it's an aftermarket raw tank. I've had to coat aftermarket tanks completely due to bad quality. Harley tanks are good quality and do not need to be coated with bondo

The metallic that went over everything, was that like a small black metallic flake in clear binder?

That is just a silver metallic in the clear base that was sprayed over the black and flames

Thank you. Grind the area VERY good. Use everglass or duraglass, then bondo to finish.

What liquid wax do you use at the end? Is safe on fresh clear? Thanks
@TAZattitude2 ай бұрын
I use a 'body shop safe' wax. It's in the pink bottle hanging on the top of the bench. I can't remember the name of who makes it. Smells like strawberries lol

you never measured anything ... every mix will be different..
@scottisms20722 ай бұрын
Yes, different sized flakes, how big the job is, weather, how much coverage, all play a part. Of course, the more flake you add, the faster it's going to cover. Also, bigger flakes take up more volume. When you start spraying, you will get the "fee" of how fast it is covering. You'll also be able to gauge at how much you want the parts covered. Flakes are different than dealing with basecoats and clearcoats

Oh, you mean the spacer tape. I use that to make sure the spacing between the the 2 stripes are perfect. That gets removed before the basecoat. I'm not for sure what you meant by "I didi it for 30 years that not exceptible" (maybe you meant acceptable??)

It will take some work, but I'm sure you can do it by yourself. Buy some 3M trim adhesive in spray can and that will help. Tape up the rails and do one section at a time. www.attitudecustompainting.com/november-updates-1966-gmc-suburban/

How did you do the shading? Is it more candy used in air brush or black??
@rustygood63364 ай бұрын
Hey question for ya. What kind of candy do you use. Concentrate? Urethane? Im kinda confused as to the difference as seeing detail work thru the different types of candy.
@TAZattitude4 ай бұрын
I use all of House of Kolor candies. If I do overalls, I pretty much use the UK. If I'm spotting stuff, I use the KK. The UK stays wet, and the KK is more of a basecoat, once you mix with an interclear. So the KK really is a little easier to work with. Hope that helps.
